Predators almost always are in the "trusted" members of the family, church, school or sports arena. Grooming is very common with S.A.C.Y (Sexually aggressive children and youths), that later become adults. Teaching children what uncomfortable touching is, and listening to concerns early on, can make a world of difference in those youths lives.

Sadly, most people assume sexual abuse is most likely to come from strangers. In fact it's overwhelmingly likely to come from someone who knows the child. Over 90% of abuse is committed by father, stepfather, mom's boyfriend, grandfather, uncles, brothers, family friends, teachers, coaches or religious leaders. Yes it's difficult to admit and accept that someone you know and trust is a danger to your child but that is the reality.

These abusers are disgusting. USA Olympic coach John Geddert died on Thursday afternoon of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, hours after being charged with two dozen crimes including sexual assault, human trafficking, lying to a peace officer and racketeering. I hope these ladies find peace and justice. They need to reform the sport to protect the athletes

It isn’t about men treating women for issues. There are a lot of great male doctors who would never do this. USAG is fully culpable and should admit it and end the reign of USAG. We need a program that is all about the athletes well being.
Procedures should never be done without it being in a sterile place and with 2-3 witnesses to back up the procedure.

It’s gymnastics in general. This is evidence that the behavior at the top works its way down. You can not speak up at any gym about coaches the way they speak and teach children. I have had to at 2 gyms that we left. Coaches need to coach with out being mean, sarcastic, hurtful, grabbing children firmly. My husband and refused to let our daughter be groomed to be abused physically and emotionally. We have spoken to coaches and owners about behavior. Even the girls start to act out. It’s very sad. Most parents don’t say anything because they want their daughters to succeed in gymnastics.

That's not true. My gf has a female primary care doctor but a male endocrinologist and a male therapist. She thinks all are amazing. Girls should be taught to speak out if they feel uncomfortable and parents should accompany them to appointments. Adult women can bring a friend or request a chaperone if they are comfortable with that.

I had a similar experience with a doctor in NYC so I didn't pay my bill. Several months later when his secretary called to collect my payment, I said I will send my boyfriend with the money & he will pay the doctor in person, or you can write down bill is paid, because you know what he did you work for him. She sent a receipt bill is paid!! I was 18 in college so I didn't turn him in. Today I would have, but I'm an adult now, it's hard when you're a teenager. Give these girls a break!! USAG should have been dissolved. Create a new nonprofit org. Have it governed by a board which is elected by an athlete union. The only way to make sure that the athletes are put first is to have athletes calling the shots. You can have a democratically controlled, radically transparent elite gymnastics program.

Unfortunately the girls are pushed beyond normal functionality and yes those "treatments" provide a physiological relief that can be understood in sexual education. There are extreme health benefits from sexual activity but these girls are too young to be exposed to it and SHOULD NOT be pushed so hard to the point of pain. This is the base of the problem !!!!!!!! No he should not have done that but also the girls should not have needed to see a doctor in the first place.

Parents weren't allowed at the Karolyi Ranch, which is where a lot of the abuse happened. Also he got away with abusing girls while their parents were in the room, so please stop blaming the parents. USAG, Larry Nassar, the Karolyis, and the coaches who encouraged silence and compliance over safety are the only ones to blame.

    • @mckendraray4341

What do her parents have to do with this? Parents weren't allowed on the Karolyi ranch and she was separated from her mom and dad during the 2012 games. All places and times where she was abused and that's just to name a few, such as international meets. Also, I'm almost certain her mother didn't like the idea when Aly went a tried for her second Olympic games because she didn't like what the sport was doing to her daughter. Given that, you seriously think her parents would have looked the other way if they found out she was being sexually abused all for the sake of her earning a gold medal? Really, that's disgusting. I'm sure her parents, as well as many others if these gymnasts, have blamed themselves constantly for never knowing what had gone on with their daughters when they were training.

It’s not the parents fault. They did their best. As mentioned above the comments, , parents were not allowed at the Karolyi ranch, so the slient treatment about their abuse is on USAG and the Karolyi’s.

I never said that the parents looked the underway. I am saying they should’ve done more, asking and looking more carefully. I am one of seven kids in our family. And yes, four of us played sports. Our parents asked us many questions about all activities in the locker room, particularly about the coaches and school physicians; mom, nothing got passed by her if even some we did not want to answers, but she went around.
