I was actually expecting JiU to be sentimental like that.
I was expecting SuA to go hard like that (oh, my lord, am I just WAITING for her reaction to any of the videos connected to No Dot...).
I did NOT expect that from Siyeon. I knew that she has always been a ROCKER (which is why she was traumatized by Minx...) so having her do a Classical piece was a HUGE (welcome) surprise for me! This was every bit as awesome as her 'Paradise'.
I expected something like that from Han Dong and the Mandarin lyrics at the end was awesome!
I did NOT expect Yoohyeon to do what she did with 'For' and I LOVED that surprise just as much as I loved the surprise from Siyeon.
I did not expect an Avril Lavigne-esque thing from Dami but again, GREAT surprise and I LOVED IT!
And I did sort-of expect what Gahyeon did. :D

Oh it was just Starlight, MY FAVORITE DC SONG ❤ After listening to their discography a few times and the shock factor for each song wore off, I was properly able to choose my favorites. Starlight is my overall fave and Always is my favorite ballad. One particular performance of Always makes me cry every time 😢 You'll find out why when/if you watch that Apocalypse: Save Us mini concert, it'll be the first song ❤

'Always'. My pick for best DC ballad. I believe there's a vid from a live stage that was the first time they were allowed to perform in front of a live audience post-Covid. Seeing as how this is a fan song expressing their love for us, most of them understandably couldn't keep their emotions in check. Neither could I... seeing my beloved Minji in tears destroys me.
Always is a top ballad for me, just love it! I did find a live clip of it, not sure if it's that one but it was very good! You should see it in like ... an hour 🤣

The compilation of the No Dot stages during the tour are especially dangerous, it involves all of the girls over many cities.

Fantastic title track with some of my fave b-sides with Locked Inside A Door, Starlight and their solos. Entrancing and Winter are two of my favourite songs in music and Always is my fave ballad by DC. Lots of favourites here! ♥

I believe "Locked inside a door" is looking back at the Dystopia trilogy and from Dreamcatcher's point of view. I'm sure many people told them over the years to drop their rock style, but they preferred to remain themselves.
Also, whenever you hear a bird, it could very well be Dami. Her bird sounds are insane. And I think you will understand what is meant with "cute cloud" when you see JiU's special clip for Cherry. 😉
Wait Dami does the bird sounds too??? I could see "Locked inside a door" being their point of view, I was surprised to see it on the album before the title track!

There are so many things to say about this album, but I'll just keep it to one. "Always" is my favorite ballad from them. As far as I understand, it's directed towards InSomnia. I'm not sure whose bright idea it was, but at the showcase for that comeback, they performed "Always" FIRST. FREAKING FIRST! It was the first time they'd had a legit live crowd since the pandemic began. A few of the members were tearing up, especially JiU. She tends to get emotional when performing things about InSomnia in front of InSomnia. She is very sincere in her appreciation for everything and everyone that helped make her dream come true, but yeah. She was tearing up, I was crying in my computer chair watching the stream, and I just assume everyone in the audience was curled up in the fetal position in pools of tears. 😭😭😭

Someone already mentioned it but Jiu’s song cherry is about her dog cherry. Yoohyeon’s dog pie I think appears more in dc stuff so I think sometimes cherry is over looked in a lot or member guides

This album is such a masterpiece and it’s their first full album with Dongie 💙 I love how Locked Inside A Door and The seven doors build a story and atmosphere. Starlight is such a masterpiece, synth pop with a super ethereal outro??? Together is such a party bop.
Cherry is about JiU’s dog, Cherry, and how she is her real miracle by coming into her life. She wishes Cherry could live as much as her and this is so relatable to me, a dog lover 🥹
No Dot is so BLACKPINK but in SuA’s own chaotic style. You’ll die with the choreo.
Entrancing feels like a historial kdrama OST with a Ghibli instrumental. Siyeon being able to create this landscape only shows how talented she is. Btw, all members cowrote their own solos!!
Handong’s solo is so cool. It was her first time writing in Korean and having the end in Chinese, no instrumental, just her, still gives me chills.
Yoohyeon’s solo is super special to me. I’ll open up in the clip but Yoohyeon doing jazz is just so right.
Dami Lavigne is def right. 00’s Punk rock is one of my favorite genres, as I grew up with it. Dami made it so refreshing!
Gahyeon’s solo was very cute. I love that the instrumental is so complex as well, orchestra, bass. Well done for her first self written work!!!

fun fact! yoohyeon lent her voice to dami's solo for background vocals, and i believe dami helped yoohyeon with directing her song. i'm not sure if they used dami's studio or not, but i just think it's cute that they were active and helping each other with their solos. for context, dami typically directs yoohyeon's solo covers and shares her studio with her. they also record their duo covers there. i just love how it translated to their actual personal solos as well.

adding my hell long comment, I really like this album a lot. based on teaser concept pic, with air quality index, love it. the numbers later translated to MAISON but that's not the point I like. the pic showing red level of air quality, the numbers from each pollutant if we look based on AQI, the one which causes red level is NO2 (nitrogen dioxide). NO2 is gas with brown color. and we can see the main color scheme in the MV, both background and outfit.
as bachelor in chemistry, I really proud of that. not only strong message in lyric, they also did it scientifically towards the concept.

I Loved the versatility in all of their solo songs and how it reflected how different each of them are. It matched their personalities perfectly in my opinion. Also yes Handong's my bias and absolutely love her voice is so unique and mesmerizing, all of their voices are beautiful but i feel drawn by Dongie's the most.

This is a great album and is a favorite to just start with the intro and let it play right through, and the special clips for each solo are literally perfect so I'll be excited to see your reaction to them 😊 Also, just as an interesting point if you didn't already notice it, the end note of the skit flows perfectly into the beginning of Cherry 😄

Oh, you thought you weren't ready for the solos NOW. Just wait for the SCs. All tracks receive a warning of some sort either visually or vocally or both. There's are clips of no dot challenges at concerts, and let's just say Handong got a talking to by her mom.
Dami's Maison rap is, to me, more iconic than the Boca rap due to how long it is. It shows off her flow and timbre so much more than the shorter rap verses.

A:SU is such a fantastic album. The special clips for each solo are so fun, you’ll really enjoy them. Warning for some of them too 😉 I hope they do solos like this again!
Yoohyeon and Siyeon harmonising at the end of Starlight gives me goosebumps every single time, even though I’ve listened to it so many times. It hits so hard.
Jiu’s solo for her dog is just so Jiu. That woman is sunshine, I’ll never shut up about it.
Sua came through reminding everyone she’s one of the best aces in all of Kpop. Also I highly HIGHLY recommend that you react to the Not Dot challenge US tour compilation that’s on TH-cam (you might need a shot of something to get through because all the members got, um, a little wild. Enough that some of the group apologised to their parents 🤣).
How Siyeon isn’t more well known in Korea for her singing astounds me because her talent really is one in a million. You’ll see it in the special clip but it is also ties in some traditional Korean visuals beautifully.
I was surprised that Handong’s solo was my favourite besides Sua’s. It makes me want to curl up in a blanket with a cup of tea and get cozy. It’s lowkey but emotive. Her final lines being sung a cappella in Mandarin did something to me, it is just so moving.
Yoohyeon showed how she’d be the main vocal in any other group. Jazz/jazz standards are my other favourite genre of music so she captured me entirely with her solo.
Dami’s solo took me right back to being a teen in 2000s… it’s so nostalgic and fun and positive. You can tell she was so in her element and had an absolute ball with it.
Gahyeon’s solo shows how well she can do any genre. It’s really nice to see her do something traditionally pop, she really suits this style! I think the lyrics are deeper than the song sounds too.

Since you're a fellow fan of handong's voice, id like to recommend her other solo work for your second document since they're not in dreamcatcher's discography, not sure if they're on the list yet! I loveee "that day" and i think "first light of day" is her first solo! (Someone please correct me if im wrong😅)

JiU’s solo being about her dog is so on brand with JiU. Sunshine personified. Entrancing.. man it belongs in an historical period piece k-drama. Beauty Full so reminds of of an early Avril sing and I love it. I love the use of Chinese at the end of Winter. The title itself is a play on Dongie’s name. Yoohyeon choose English and the name For so that Insomina could put their name after the For. No Dot.. deadly.. it’s about a never ending love. there is a compilation of the No dot solo part from the solo segment during the Apocalypse Save Us tour and if you watch it I give you major panic warning because they were wild. Beauty Full, Entrancing and Winter are my fav solos. They helped to write, compose and/or arrange their solos. Dami and Siyeon for example helped to write, compose and arrange their aolos.
Maison, it sits as my 6th favorite title track. It took 3 listens for Dami’s rap to really hit me in its entirety.. I love the second part with the Hoo.
Locked inside a door is a jazzy song and it’s in my top 10 b-sides. Starlight is a bright song and it was Dong’s favorite group b-side in that album. Together is a beautiful song and Always.. it’s one of my favorite ballads. I will never forget how they cried when they performed it during the mini concert since they could now perform for their Insomnia.
Lets just say I did not realize she was sing about her dog 🤣 Starlight is in my top 10 for sure and Always is also my favorite ballad!

When I first listened to this album I was thrown for a loop because though I listened to the highlight medley before the album released, I apparently didn't process what I heard. Or maybe it was partially extra high expectations from The Tree of Language. But anyway I didn't remember most of the preview and wasn't impressed by anything, so after hearing the full thing I came out like "wtf what is this, those weren't in the preview!"

I don't really like jazz but Yoohyeon seemed shifting me with her solo. Avril Dami yas. JiU with her song to her dog. sassy one from SuA. classic Kdrama worthy Siyeon's. highlighted Handong with Chinese lyric (even better by having it without any instrument). and childhood related for the maknae.
JiU really love bass I think. if I remember correctly she also composing Alldaylong (not only writing) which has heavy bass line.
Blackpink structure on SuA, yes. even the exact same "empty chorus" 😅 I think this one was the moment SuA started to rap again after Good Night (well if we didn't count rap singing in Wonderland and rap spoken in BEcause). like actual rap.
Siyeon with ethereal vibe. but tbh song wise I like Paradise more. doesn't mean Paradise better but just more right up my alley. also theatrical dance.. seems she enjoys a lot to that "genre" of dancing.
classic soothing style from Handong. I need a new version with her piano play at the beginning added tbh. also I read somewhere Chinese singers always have unique vocal ability bcs their language already guiding them. like same sounding words with different intonation means different.
Yoohyeon as JiU said is best in RnB type vocal. with jazzy instrument she turned me to enjoy jazz a bit. I'm jelly with the dancer who dance with her in outro.
I like rap with guitar play but Dami doesn't have it a lot. mostly she rap without a guitar sounds at all. here Beauty Full satisfied me a lot. and the lyric is so empowering for those who have self insecurity.
Playground maybe I can say as bright pop with jazz touch there in second verse. Gahyeon really suits the song as maknae. but if I should rank, probably I like Playground the least. the song felt better with special clip including Gahyeon's bright wide smile.
dreamcatcher was the first girl group to add 7 solo songs to their album. BTS was the first group to do it....

Taeyeon btw is the leader of Girl's Generation and her newest album is ridiculously good. I've got a lot to say about this album, I apologize in advance - locked inside a door is such a different concept for them, but I think it's one of the b-sides that suits all of them so well. the end of maison is probably my favorite- it just has such a huge impact! STARLIGHT MY BELOVED- if i had to choose a favorite b-side (that wasn't a solo) it would be this one, she is just That Girl. they really snapped with this album, like they made this one of their ultimate masterpieces. together and always are such cute songs, siyeon's vocals on always are ethereal.
the fact that cherry is to Minji's dog is just so cute. no dot is just so SuA with its vibes, and it's a certified banger, yes definitely a warning for the special clip. more siyeon vocals in entrancing, and don't even get me started on winter, i breathe for that song, dongie just sounds so relaxed and it's just such a comfort song. AND the chinese at the end sounds too good, i'm so glad they let her put that in. for is so cute, yoohyeon loves us so much. and then maknae line with their uplifting happy songs. the vibes of each song just reflect each member so well, i love that they were able to show a different side to each of them. ok rant over! glad you're enjoying everything!!!

When the album was coming out, I was looking forward to all new DC Group Songs that featured Handong except for the intro and outro. When I heard it was just a Mini Album with seven solo songs, I was so annoyed. Thankfully, I love the album now. The three songs I play the least are Dami's, Handong's and Gahyeon's.
Very glad they added solo's to one of the albums, love hearing how different and unique each one's styles are!

I'm hoping after this comeback, the next comeback is a full group album. The full albums are great to physically play (42 minutes) other than streaming them. The mini albums are not so much as I physically play it and in no time at all (15 minutes or so), I have to get up to finish or swap for something else. It's like going back to when I was a teenager and we played 7" vinyl records.

I’d love to see rankings if you can do them, my problem is every song is my favorite song at some point. I can only think of one song I’m not a huge fan of and even then it’s a song I can objectively say is still good I just didn’t care for it. But like every other song has been in a top 5 of mine at some point I’m sure.

The one I mentioned that's the only one I really don't care too much for is 'Heart of Sunflower' from the Boca album, but I know some people who love that song so I can't even say I dislike it because its bad, its just not my vibe for whatever reason despite loving the rest of their slow songs.

I cannot deal with Cherry, it's about her relationship with her dog (who is named Cherry 🍒). That song makes me cry over my damn dogs (who are also Pomeranians, and one of whom is very very old and has health issues). If you watch the special clip & the behind the scenes of Cherry, JiU's parents brought her dog to Seoul for her, and she is wearing white because Cherry is a white Pomeranian. Thank goodness for the damn banger of No Dot right after to distract me, haha. No Dot is fucking FIRE!! 🔥🔥🔥 (it's my favorite solo on the album, like it checks all the boxes for me). Watching your head explode during that was so good!
Siyeon's solo is just so pleasing for me because she really goes for the soft, elegant, breathiness, which is such a complete juxtaposition from her belting and the more full and powerful singing she usually does (she even sings a lot more fully when she covers Speechless). So hearing the breathiness of Entrancing really shows off her versatility and I love that. Also it's just a really beautiful song. (Oh hey, I typed that before you finished the song and said what you said about her range. 💯 Agree)!
Dongie's song made me appreciate her vocals a lot more than I did (shame on me for that)! And yeah she was singing Chinese at the end, I love that she got to finish her solo in her native tongue!

So (personally) outside of ballads (ballads just aren't really for me, I need to be in a specific mood to want to listen to them), all their stuff just slaps and I love it all.
I was lost in the sauce those first couple of songs, had noooo clue where this album was heading 🤣 I did not realize Cherry was about a dog and the song now hits differently when I hear it! ...I'm still very much not okay with SuA....Siyeon is just out of this world talented. Dongie's tone is just soooooo pretty and her singing in Chinese at the end was so lovely! Yooh... just Yooh can't with her lol I felt like I as in my youth again with Dami's song, just loved it! Playground just fit Gahyeon so well! 🥰 what a great album!!!!!

I'd much rather see you react to random DC stuff.
