Basically the group and solo songs are not the rock sound and Dreamcatcher was accused of changing their sound because of their increased popularity. That's nonsense because anyone who has listened to a Dreamcatcher album knows that the title tracks do not at all indicate how the B-sides will sound. 🤦🏾♀️ I love this album so much and am so happy to hear more of Handong, Dami, and Gahyeon vocally. It sucks if people don't like it but they don't have to listen. It was amazing to hear Dreamcatcher live and they're so pretty and great vocalists in person. I think that they will do an online concert for Halloween again and perform their 2022 songs in style. This year they've released a few extras. They performed Kill This Love at K-Pop Flex(in suits!), did a cover of Girls Day's song Something, and yes JiU & Yoohyeon did a cover of Monster. 🥰 They performed Always a few times so there are a few performances to pick from. Each solo song does have a special clip!
While this album is probably less heavy on the rock side, any true fan who has listened to all their other albums would know that other than the title track, the songs are always varied in genre, but will still be awesome, and one of the reason we love them is the sheer talent and versatility that they have. Unfortunately as they do get more popular, you will always get the toxic fans, or ones who have expectations that don't reflect the reality of the group. There is no danger for them to go to a bubblegum pop concept, as they have no desire to do that, Minx not withstanding.
The way I viewed this album was track 1-7 as a mini, and the rest as a collection of solos rather than the full 14 songs as one album. It exceeded my expectations because listening to the album preview, honestly I wasn't really sucked in by anything. But then the full songs were great! I must have been asleep when I heard the preview lol
Not sure if this album was considered divisive but from what I was able to gleam from the metal-head Somnies is that it wasn't their preferred sound or type of song from Dreamcatcher but that literally everyone was on-board for it because it got them their first win. The most criticism I saw from others was "Yeah not my favorite song of theirs but they won for it and that's all that matters!" And honestly? Considering how diverse these girls are with their music, I respect it and I respect the Somnies who full-send support our girls even when the music they experiment with isn't what traditionally brought them to the group.
I love the switch up halfway though the into. Locked inside the Door is probably my favorite group b-side of the album. Starlight is a bright. I am weak for Dongie lower resister (and JiU lower register.. thanks Monster). Together is a track I love. And I love a good ballad and Always is great. The performance doing the online concert had been very emotional. Always.. just rip my heart from my body..Dreamcatcher ballads just hit different. Skit- it’s a very nice way to transition between the group songs and the solo stuff. Plenty of Handong and Vocal Dami. I loved seeing them live and in person (because before it was just though online concert) and hear Always, Maison, locked inside a door, starlight and songs from Dystopia triology. It may not be as “diverse” as ToL or their other albums, but each member gets their own solo and that something other albums did not have. ToL just has a Siyeon solo.. and ToL is a masterpiece all in itself. While there are certain DC songs I listen to more then others, I feel they just can’t make a bad song. But any true Insomnia knows that Dreamcatcher is more then just their title tracks and they can kill what’re genre you throw at them or they decide to do on their own. I listened to so much TATU in high school so I totally understood what you ment. I love that they can all sing because that does mean that they don’t have to force a rap into a song where a rap would not work. Unlike other groups who’s rappers can’t sing or are not very good singers..Then you have the rapper that is an underrated vocalist- Exy, Moon SuA, Moonbyul. Mamamoo is the only other girl group I Stan, but I wish they would give Moonbyul more vocal parts in the last two or three albums. While she is one of the best rappers and can write a rap to fit anything, she is also a very good singer and she can hang with the vocals of the other 3.
Locked inside a door, musically, is genuinely one of the best put together songs I've heard in all this year, classic funk rock in kpop is NOT common, I just simply have never been blessed by a combination so masterful, vocalscatcher? Sign me up, and the message? Perfection to me I'm sorry, I also love starlight and together but in terms of unique factor LIAD wins out while still being cohesive and not messy, and that's honestly the reason I listen to music at all, masterpiece song imo
Been a long time since I've heard someone mention t.A.T.u. My favorite from the group songs is Locked Inside a Door. Can't help but bounce about when it comes on shuffle. I love all of the songs though.
Fan songs that are delivered in apparently romantic lyrics are all well and good, but dreamcatcher's uplifting lyrics like the ones in LIAD and starlight are just *chef's kiss* Music doesn't have to be about love to invoke emotions and the warmth I feel when I listen to starlight's bridge is umatched, amazing writing
their vocals are still improving.. unbelievable!! especially, GH and HD made huge jumps as wel!! their US tour was awesome! their live vocals were right in your face...
Locked Inside A Door sounded like a blend of Black or White + Jazz Bar to me 😁 I thought Sua's censored cursse bumped up the attitude of the song. OTOH I'm glad there's Starlight & Together, I like they continue with the Whistle type of sound. Hearing Always reminds me of Jiu. Yes it's about the fans, us InSomnia. Yesh pls. Imma lil' monster.
They performed live for LIAD and Always a few times. The showcase mini concert, and a couple of live radios. All can be found in TH-cam. Some of them cried while singing Always in the Showcase as that was their first concert with live audience for the first time since the pandemic started.
- For the intro, the two parts seem for me separated by a "reverse tape" Sound. - In Locked inside a door, the beeped part is Sua "cursing". - Always has a live performance, it's the intro song at their mini concert, thus making me highly suspecting that it was written for Insomnia. You SHOULD check it (and hopefully react to it?). - The solo songs were all written and composed by the members, they had a sort of "carte blanche". The seven of them have a special clip, but without lyrics. My preference would be for you to react to the special clips AND some lyrics videos, but i don't know if you'd take the time to do both. Of the first half of the album, Starlight is definitely my favorite. They're really tapping into my love of 80's Synthwave with that song. Locked Inside A Door is a very close second. It's just a jam.

I don't have a preference but locked inside a door just gives me such a dopamine rush everytime I hear it's relatively unexpected progressions, I absolutely enjoy starlight and together but they're nothing I haven't heard a hundred times before especially in kpop

hearing starlight live on tour, surrounded by a sea of mongmongies was definitely a top 3 life experience. i'm pretty sure i ascended lol

LIAD is by far one of my favorite Dreamcatcher songs ever (also I loved T.a.T.u! "All the things she said" was iconic)
