This comment reminds me. As a kid I remember seeing an old rerun of “The Green Hornet”-Bruce Lee was in it-he’d throw a knife into a wall to intimidate people.

Wow, you’re right! I reckon it’s a different enough market that “The Green Hornet” trademark can’t go after them. I’ve heard you can have essentially identical trademark designs/names but if they are in different markets/applications then the parties can’t sue one another. For instance, there’s a “DickPick” trademark, but it’s for an Afro comb pick with a phallic handle 🤷♂️

Love the improvements you have made in this design. Reminiscent of many historical weapons, yet unique unto itself. As one who favors daggers with a thumbprint feature, this would work well for me.
Thank you-it will be interesting to see if, in the years ahead, the concept ever “breaks through” to the more mainstream blade community. I am not betting on it but anything is possible.

A Nice design. If you ever consider making a karmabit, I think you should go with the ones in the tv show Taboo or something similar to the boker bad moon(for middle finger). There’s not a lot on the market. Keep the ideas coming.
I’d be very interested in a pry bar version. Something that looks a tad less aggressive but no less effective

@@wingardwearables half to 3/4 of an inch. Bevel away from the body, keep it flat against the waist. You could probably do away with the thumb hold and just do jimping.
Having the square head would make swiping a little more viable. Not to mention, a tape popper for boxes.

I work in restaurants. I do a lot of receiving for inventory. Wine still comes in wooden crates that a nailed shut, so you need more than a utility knife. Most crowbars are heavy and hard to keep on your person. Edc pry bars come up a tad short on leverage.
I’ve been using a Parmesan cheese knife that has a square head, which makes popping tape on cardboard easier and can pry open the wooden crate too. It’s still awkward to carry on me tho.
I work in a casino so overt weapons are a no no. My benchmade is a bit extreme for their liking.
Btw, I feel like the articulation would make this akin to a war club if you gripped the shaft right behind the head with the handle towards your opponent.
@@wingardwearables For a flat pry head I would go about 1" wide so it doesn't try to twist when prying. I would put the bevel on the outside of the tool, away from the body when carrying for better mechanical leverage.
For a cat's paw style head you would want the bevel on the inside towards the body, with maybe 3/4" wide head with a nail pulling groove. This is the one I would get if it existed.
At first glance, I gotta say I hated it. I know that's just my bias towards "what makes a good blade". Watching the video and learning about the inspiration and use case, I gotta say I was wrong! Very nice sir! *Edit, lolol shoulda waited to comment till the end! You're right, and I hope you sell as many as possible! Unfortunately, it's a bit out of my price range. The Dick Pick isn't though... XD

I think the concept is too niche’ to ever have broad appeal, so I doubt we would set one aside for youtube channels. But we have sent a few of our other products to youtube channels (at their request). The results have been real mixed.

Indeed it looks horrible. But after seeing the video. I am sold i definitely want 1. Lots of great thoughts have been in this design. And functional weapons that are out of the box are extremely interesting. You didn't say anything about the weight though. Because it really seems like a thick Bent piece of rebar. I hope it doesn't feel like it. I definitely want to pick 1 up though.
It feels pretty quick in the hand. This last batch averaged about 10 ounces in weight. I forgot to weight the sheaths but they should add another ounce to your carry. For comparison, I just weighed a kabar knife I have on hand-it’s about 10.5 ounces, but the sheath alone is another 4 ounces. If we make another batch, we will try to do better on aesthetics 👍

You don't recommend it but you can bet your life people will use it as a pry tool. It just calls for that. That is sth to have in mind for gen3 if it ever happens. I wouldn't call it a design flaw, but when the shape is suggesting a use eventhough not intended, it's better to accomodate it

Thank you very much for your orders! We haven’t shipped a Micropike to Europe yet, so I am thinking about what to call it on the customs form. It looks like a bullfighter’s puntilla (the slaughter knife, used to sever the bull’s spinal cord), so I am thinking of calling it “specialty tool, Hand forged ceremonial puntilla” - dunno if that will fly, and I am open to suggestions.
Specialty gardening / leather tool would do better...

you should use it on whoever did that wall…. what in the world would motivate someone to make a seam instead of staggering the lengths of the boards…. like putting the floor on the wall isn’t all that terrible, it’s not fantastic, but if you’re going to do it at least try to make it look decent, halfway down it’s staggered by two inches…. wtf?! that’s terrible! hope you didn’t pay for that because i would be mad! 8:16 i like 5160. my kershaw camp 18 machete is 5160, i’m on my third one so far and i’ve broken two already and i’ve really pushed that steel to the max and it is excellent, a little soft but it’s super tough. I sharpen my machete with a carbide scraper because it’s soft enough that a scraper is the fastest way for my to take the dings out of it and a scraper removes the metal quickly. i think the most underrated spring steel is 9260 and it is what leaf springs are made of and it is the very springiest spring steel that exists so it’s mainly used for springs but it is really tough and it makes excellent blades and tools but nobody uses it. i have a katana made from 9260 and it was just a cheap katana made in china with a polymer handle but i am very impressed with it because it has taken a beating and i would expect it to have some rust by now but its still as bright as the day i bought it and it is definitely springy. i wish more things were made from 9260 like throwing knives and your thing would be cool in 9260 10:23 i really like chisel grinds because they are so stinking sharp, definitely makes sense in a tactical application vs utility because sharpening a chisel grind takes forever. i don’t think having a wider blade is better and it should have the widest part closer to the tip so that it creates a wider hole for the rest of the blade to follow into. i think of some of the principles of Pikal, like to rip is much more devastating than to cut so it would actually be a great thing if the shaft widened so that it would get wedged and then with the bend you would have the leverage to rip. a lot of pikal blades aren’t even sharpened they are made for penetrating and so they often have a thick narrow blade with a harpoon tip so your tool falls perfectly into that train of thought. 10:31 forge welding isn’t tougher than an integral piece, 5160 is already a spring steel it is already tough enough and you can temper back the handle significantly more than the cutting edge instead of welding anything. maybe you should find a different maker. you can have it all designed in CAD and cutout with a water jet and bend it to shape and heat treat just the tip, forge welding and using a die seems weird in this application.
11:00 maybe it was done for centuries but they didn’t have 5160 one century ago. no body forge welds anything to mild steel anymore. i decided to google it just for a second opinion and this is what i got: Yes, 5160 steel is generally tougher than mild steel, also known as carbon steel:

Mild steel
Also known as carbon steel, mild steel is a good choice for most applications because of its balance between hardness, ductility, and malleability. However, high-carbon steel, like 5160, is harder than low-carbon steel but is also more brittle…. so just using 5160 would be tougher than this shenanigans

17:21 i wish it were more of a hook towards the tip. with pikal you want to pull cut so that you can put a lot of weight into the cut by basically sitting so you want it to trap material, just a slight hook shape would go a long ways
17:33 i once cut someone’s femoral artery with a 1.7” blade while i was being bludgeoned with a pistol, i’m pretty sure you could do it with a blade less than an inch long because the femoral artery is not very deep under the skin but also imagine cutting a 4” thick pillow with a one inch long box cutter, totally possible because material compresses. aside from the heart most of the vitals are possible with a one inch blade.

I might agree with you if it was a reduction in total material at the change in cross section -that would definitely become a stress riser. But we kept the cross sectional area nominally the same-it’s just flattened and fullered-and the transition between the different cross sections is fairly gradual.
