After airborne with N1 HDG SEL and ALT 3000, reaching 3000, then I want to desc to 2000 and bug ALT down; Do I must recycle the FD first to get the vertical line of FD directing me down to 2000 ?

You don't have to touch the FD's for that. Use V/S or LvL Change in that scenario
