Thanks for the overview. I'm on my third Garmin watch. VivoActive HR and VivoActive 3 were my first two. There are a ton of features. It's going to take a while to customize the watch. 😀
Super tutorial! I just setup my 165 a couple of hours ago and you made it a lot easier on navigating through all the glances.I probably would never have noticed the additional detail available as depicted by the notches by the top right hand button.I'm coming from a 235 and got the 165 because of AMOLED.The only thing I don't like is the running only has 4 data fields.I looked on IQ and there's no 3rd party stuff that looks good.Great job and thanks!
Many thanks for your clear instructional video. Especially pertinent for us ancients! Just one thing that may help others, I run an iPhone/iPad but all my office/family work is via a desktop PC. Yes I am Neanderthal, but I love viewing on my 24 inch monitor. Now this home built behemoth has 4 standard USB slots. NO USB-C, so much to my surprise today, opened the box, watch, cable, now what? In car to nearest town with computer supplies to buy, UK, our 3 pin charger. Not impressed Mr Garmin. Apart from that all seems nice. Second 5k Parkrun coming up.
just ordered my 965 a week ago, can't wait to replace my Galaxy 6. Battery life only last's me a bit over a day without using always on display and not using the watch at all for calls, running, tracking, or anything. If i listen to music, or do tracking the watch will go from 100% to 15% in less than 24 hours.
Just don't see the point why not including the skiing profiles on the FR165, having a barometer included and all. I realize this is supposed to be your entry/budget models. But you have to realize that the FR165 is not a budget watch in every country/region. In Norway the watch is more pricey (USD350) than in the US (USD245), and there are other brands offering this option for a similar or close price. If you add ski profiles this watch is interesting.
My last Garmin watch add Auto detect for activities like walking and running. I can't seem to find that setting on this watch. Where can I find how to set that up. I can't seem to find it on their online manuals. thanks for the super detailed tutorial it was very helpful.
I'm new to Garmin after many years owning a Fitbit. This entry level watch is what I'm looking for. I run 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons a couple of times a year. My question to you is, when it comes to GPS/tracking runs, does this model or any other Garmin model require having a phone with you on runs, cycling, etc?
Thank you for your question. Most Garmin watches have a GPS receiver built-in and do not require your phone to record GPS activities, like the Forerunner 165.
