Please explain to your Family that boodle fight isn't just about eating--- it's about more in unity, solidarity and camaraderie thru eating of similar foods on a single or in lined banana leaves.
    Eating by hands in boodlefight have lots of meaning and history explanation as well;
Eating together Using bare hands on the same leaves means that we are all on the same boat rowing all together in achieving our common goal in life ---no matter how hard life is, no matter what status in the society you are, doesn't matter what foods we have or what we have not on our table.
"We eat as one, we live as one and we will always thrive to survive as one" 😅
It also represents Filipino values like "patients" "flexibility" "Family-Oriented" "hospitality" etc.
And also back during the war, soldiers used to have that kind of settings when eating for many reasons as well. And even sometimes now, Filipino Soldiers or civilians occasionally doing that especially in ceremonies, Family reunion or welcoming events.
If a Filipino Family welcomes you or invited you in a boodlefight--- you are very welcome to their family and they want you to feel at home.
Enjoy watching your video always. Have fun guys and be safe always... ❤️❤️❤️📹

A boodle fight is a meal that dispenses with cutlery and dishes. Diners instead practice kamayan. The food is placed on top of a long banana leaf-lined trestle table and in the true military practice, diners do not sit in chairs but instead stand shoulder to shoulder in a line on both sides of the table.

Boodle fight is not a Filipino tradition... boodle fight is a Filipino Soldier “military” tradition. The term “Boodle” is used by the cadet corps of the Philippine Military Academy meaning “Food”. In any military academy and officer schools in the Armed Forces of the Philippines we used newspapers instead of banana leaves. Because that’s the easiest way to produce every time we take life (sneaking eating at night).
The Filipino tradition is called “kamayan.”

My late father once told us that they have already did this kind of system back in 1950's somewhere in Negros Occidental, especially during harvest of Corn crop, and they termed it Salu-salong kinamot (Salu-salong kamayan in Filipino/Tagalog). It was pretty amazing since everyone was happier then.
I think the term "boodle fight" was used in military. BOODLE means "food" and "FIGHT" means fast and limited time eating.
Anyway, whatever the term is, the hospitability of the Filipinos prevails at all costs.

Hi, it's nice to see this video sharing the military tradition... so others may know, the word "BOODLE" originated in the United States Military Academy also known as West Point. This military terminology called boodle means food. This U.S. military jargon was adopted by the Philippine Military Academy. Cadets in their 4th class (1st Year) in the military academy or military schools usually cannot eat well because of the military tradition called the square meal. What these cadets do is gather at night at sneak (It's called take life). They collect all the boodles they can easily provide like noodles, sardines, rice, chicharron, and other instant meal, and put them in a newspaper (not banana leaf). Once the noodles are prepared, the cadets start to commence the "Boodle Fight"_. The cadets can sleep with a good load of food after they take life. The Filipino tradition is called "KAMAYAN" using the coconut shell as their plate.

Correct me if i am wrong netizens, Itlog na maalat or century eggs are buried in a treated salt clay mud to preserve it for 18days(?). It is colored to separate e it from regular eggs. Eggs that are preserve longer than 18 days command higher price. The outer layer of the egg meat becomes translucent when soaked in the mud. I had eaten one before in a fine restaurant in Cebu that was in 1991 and it cost 400 pesos for 1 serving. Search the history how itlog na maalat came to be. Aksidente lng na nalaglag ang itlog sa putikan at na preserved siya.

There are new easier ways to make salted egg available in youtube. You melt salt in water to as much salty as the sea, then soak the thoroughly washed duck eggs and cover properly. Make sure all eggs are submerged. Time it from 15 to 30 days. Strong Pink Coloring is not required. Just accustomed to differentiate from raw chicken eggs when selling. After your preferred time span, boil water then slow steam the eggs for 15 minutes.

Pano kumain ng boodle fight? Originally there's no rules but if you want to consider a more sanitary way, you can fallow this.
    1. Once food is prepared, you wash your hands and say your prayers.
    2. Decide which hand you will use for:
    a) Main hand - feeding food to your mouth. Use this hand to divide your food into smaller pieces. Keep the helper hand (b) clean and never use it for feeding your mouth to keep the center food sanitary.
    b) Helper hand - reaching out food and holding cups to drink. Keep this hand clean like its only used for serving and not for feeding.
    3. Choose your area where you will place and eat your food. Reach for the food that you want and place it in front of you using your helper hand (b).
    4. Using your main hand (a), grab a food that you placed in front of your and feed your self. Do not use your main hand to grab food from the center to keep everything sanitary.
    5. Wash/rinse your hand as often as you want if you need to use your hand for something else (like fixing your self).
    6. Since this is not a real military boodle fight, there should be more than enough food to share to fill everyone's tummy. Only take the food nearest to you and leave some for others to share. Excuse your self if you want to take food from another area of the center food.

You marinate the egg in sealed bottle with salted water and keep in the cupboard for 3 weeks. It does not have to be mud! As it is not hygienic. You will find the recipe in TH-cam.
