Great video, Tom! Awareness is the key for saving our Trout when conditions get compromised! After having 3 different stream thermometers fail me (these were from a reputable Flyfishing Company) within a couple weeks , I saw a you tube where a very good flyfisherman recommended a meat thermometer from Wallmart! Also the upside to this was it was 1/2 the cost and waterproof and reads the water temp way faster than the standard water thermometers! Highly Reccomend these, and you can use it in the kitchen as well! Lol! Also don't understand why they term the High Temp Restrictions as Hoot Owl Restrictions? There should be a better term for this as I am sure some people disregard this as they dont know what it means..Maybe now that people are becoming more aware of high water temps they could call this Restriction with an appropriate term?
Thank you for that information Tom! Now I need to use my wife turkey thermometer without her noticing it. Too much of a challenge I will get an Orvis thermometer they look great! Maybe I can also use it to take the snow temperature when I ski in the winter.
Thank you for this video. I live and work in Yellowstone national Park. We definitely have hoot owl restrictions here. Can you show some good Yellowstone patterns?
Crap my pet trout i raised as a fingerling is getting to big for chilled fish tank. I overwintered him in the pond with the other fish but now its almost january and i worry how i can manage him this time over the summer :/ hes about 16" now to big for a 55 gal aquarium
What Tom is not telling you is that he can actually measure stream temps within one or two degrees using his finger. I'm not kidding, I've seen it! :-)
I thought that it takes a long time for water temperature to rise or lower? Will a few hours within a day and some sunshine really change the temperature of a stream that much? I've never checked
Thanks Tom and The New Flyfisher for these informational segments. They give me the knowledge to be a better fly fisher. We appreciate it, so thanks
Glad you like them!
Coffee and TNFF = a great morning!
Thank you Tom.
