Great recap - It was nice to see that Gabi was able to rehab her image in this event. I feel like she got a lot of undeserved hate while she was competing (potentially due to Mackenzie’s popularity) and I feel a lot of people came away with a much better impression of her.
Production was on point, commentary was on point and the event was agile and with good flow… I understand they needed the eyes but the Craig- Gabi match was a bit cringe even tho the aftermath was beautiful . Most important the matches were awesome and that -80 tournament was fire!!
I highly agree with the importance of aesthetics and professionalism akin to the standards set in tennis. Imagine a no-gi submission grappling equivalent of Wimbledon?
My problem with the Levi vs Kade match is submission attempts are worth more as an attacking movement than a guard pass "attempt" where they don't really come to passing guard (classic Atos strategy for influencing judges/refs).
Nice one Tom. Tbh, I thought Levi won and thought it was just bias against the style, but you made quite a good point about needing a disincentive for guard pulling from a competitive dynamics point of view. Never heard this framing before and was always very annoyed by the "it will never work in the streets" nonsense.
Great recap Tom. Totally agree with the professionalism (as an ex tennis player). Do you think that the straight seated guard player should somehow be penalised? (You may mention it later in the video).
I like the idea of 8 person divisions, so they can add more classes. But I think the million is a big part of the branding, if they can't afford to do it I think they should keep the number of divisions down. If they can only do 2 divisions, they should do a men's and a women's. I also think they should cut the heavyweights and replace them with lightweights.
I scored CJI, KR vs AT under a scoring system incorporating the best rules of wrestling, judo and bjj: Kade Ruotolo = 54 points (RD1 14, RD2 24, RD£ 16) Andrew Tackett - 51 points (RD1 13, RD2 13, RD3 25) {This was the highest scoring bout of any CJI bout} 2 Points - Submission Attempt (Must be close) 2 Points - Guard Pass 4 Points - Takedown (Must be grounded, if opponent pops back up this is not a takedown. If you sit and butt scoot or pull guard your opponent will receive points for the takedown) 4 Points - Mount (Front or back, must have at least one hook in) 4 Points - Escape from submission attempt and get back to feet 4 Points - Reverse position from bottom to top 1 Point - Pin (For every 10 seconds you're grounded your opponent will receive 1 point, this timer will restart during close submission attempts or when in 50/50 positions. Please let me know if you approve or disapprove of this scoring system.
@@tomhalpinjiujitsu Thamk you. Of course youre correct, which is why someone on the broadcast is paid for this. I think the point is that using this scoring system anyone can rewatch the bouts and know 100% who won and who lost
I really think Levi stepped off the gas in the third and thats why he lost. He should have capitalized on that nice single leg he came up with. He really could have passed Kade's guard at one point. I believe if theh run it back Levi will win. If he focuses on those things with those passive players he can beat Kade or anyone in the world honestly.

A good recap - positive but fair
Nicky was injured for the last 4 weeks. Watch Luke Thomas, Dimas interview.
That makes sense. Unfortunate

I think the current rules penalise this enough. I.e it’s easier for top player to initiate more and score with the judges

Very interesting! Hard to keep track of during the match though. Thanks!
