Crazy how the wrestler couldn't do anything with the takedowns after he got tye down. He was either in a sub or backed off because he didn't know how to engage the guard. On top of that he had a hard time standing with tye as well...soooo wrestling doesn't stand a chance against high level Jiu Jitsu
I don’t understand why people are justifying this by saying Nolf has zero jiu jitsu or that he’s a white belt as if wrestling doesn’t directly translate to jiu jitsu. A wrestler has takedown defense and offense, top control, passing, the ability to get up, those are all aspects of jiu jitsu yet when a wrestler loses to a jiu jitsu guy it’s because they suddenly have no jiu jitsu. Most of the time control comes before submission and Nolf is as elite as they come plus he has been around the sport of submission grappling for some years now. Obviously Tye is better at submission grappling but to act like wrestling doesn’t translate or like it’s as different to jiu jitsu as golf is to football is just insane to me.
Wrestling translates to jiujitsu in many ways like you said however the submission element completely eliminates the usefulness of a lot things in wrestling. Low stance? No way, blast double, high-c? Think twice. Bellying out? Exact opposite principle to pulling guard. These are all fundamentals of wrestling that are nullified by jiujitsu. You really aren’t appreciating that they are not at all the same sport otherwise the transfer would go both ways, there’s a reason you don’t need world class wrestling to be a world class jiujitsu guy. Boxing would be completely useful for k1 kickboxing but you simply cannot ignore the first 4 letters of the latter, that is essentially what you are doing here.
@@juniorsmith7777 my point is wrestlers have an immediate advantage when coming to jiu jitsu that you wouldn’t get in other sport. Many aspects of wrestling translate like I said with things like Takedowns, top control, the ability to stand up and scramble. Those things directly translate to jiu jitsu where as hitting a golf ball doesn’t translate to catching a football. When an elite wrestler has success in jiu jitsu it’s not surprising because it’s all forms of grappling. A highschool state champ will beat the average blue belt because takedowns, top pressure, and aggression all translate to jiu jitsu in which wrestlers have the advantage in over pure jiu jitsu guys and unless you’re an elite level finisher you likely lose on points to elite level wrestlers more often than not. Both forms of grappling and wrestling is huge when it comes to jiu jitsu which is why people shouldn’t be surprised when elite wrestlers can have competitive matches with black belts.

A failed submission attempt shouldn't be looked on more favorably.
not in the bjj community so my question is whether or not pulling guard is looked upon as a weaker competitive approach? Tye said he'd never pull guard when he was on the mic at the end there.
Its less rewarding in no gi and easier to pass guard. Better to fight on the feet for position because they had active scoring in this tournament, you can win a period/round by being more aggressive.
@@jaxchristian3080 Nolf was winning on their feet, so I don't know what you're talking about. Nolf has successful leg attacks and Tye had his shots stuffed repeatedly.
The judge who gave the 10-8 round needs to be evaluated. Flying arm bar attempt by Nolf at the beginning of the round. Shot by Tye is easily stuffed by Jason. Jason dumps Tye with a single leg and then disengages. Jason shoots a double and takes Tye down. Tye then defends and is able to take a controlling position where he spends the last 90 seconds working on a submission. Both men were aggressive, that's not a 10-8 round.
Tye tried to hang with Nolf in the wrestling but decided he had had enough after 3 rounds and would rather win from the bottom with leg locks after being taken down rather than continue to wrestle with nolf another 10 minutes.
Because if we are scoring it like they score grappling in mma fights than tye had more effective grappling. He actually had a submission attempt that was closer to ending the match than anything nolf did. This is a grappling match not just a wrestling match
Ehh I would have liked to see the first round 10-9 Nolf. If you shoot a takedown you are more likely than not going to have to fight out of a submission attempt. Nolf fought out successfully without being swept and was punished for the entire engagement. I think that was an error in the scoring criteria. It's almost impossible to shoot a double leg like that and not get your head caught, that doesn't mean that the guy who got taken down won the engagement.
Also note that Nolf tried a flying attack to start the 2nd round. Psychologically that first round decision really hurt him it's confusing to know what to do if taking your opponent down still loses you the round.

Nolf did pretty well. A world class wrestler with no experience in BJJ and he made a world class athlete like Tye bust his ass. Really the only reason Tye was able to beat Nolf was because the judges weren’t going to award Nolf the win if he kept taking Tye down so he needed to try grappling from the top position. If this was a takedown competition Nolf would have kick his ass. No question. But BJJ requires more skill than that and Nolf will have to get over that hurdle

this is a poor analysis. Not at all true. Nolf was in control on the feet, hard stop. He chose to be cautious because as soon as they hit the ground, it was Tye's game. It's kind of like, you want the takedown, but do you want to be there afterward.

LET me SLAP and CLAP your CHEEKS!!
I think Tye got upset mid match because he couldn’t finish a pure wrestler that’s got hardly any bjj training 😂😂
Feels like Nolf doesn't know bjj much yet...
7:07 🤷♂️All your real world jiu-jitsu ends here 🤕💥🦵

I just love nogi guys 😂 …. THE GI IS DEAD ITS SO BORING then you have no gi matches where they just slap eachother sorry i mean collar tie for 10 of the 15 minutes….. just go watch wrestling 😂
Are heel hooks the ugly step child of bjj?

Nolf fans tears could fill a pool. lolol wrestlers
haha. I'm 100% nolf fan. Actually only the first time I've seen Tye Ruotolo and I was most impressed with how he dominated NOLF on their feet.
@@jaxchristian3080 That's not what dominating on feet looks like. Nolf won the battle on their feet.
Where are the punches 😂🎉
Relax bro nobody said anything about dogs.

Congrats to a life long jiu jitsu guy pulling out a win against a wrestler with barely any jiu jitsu. He also didn’t wrestle the wrestler he was slammed and tripped multi times and apparently if you get slammed on your back but grab their head even though no threat of a submission you win the round? Weird
I think Nolf won that
Rutolo sucks!

Wow impressive wrestling for Ruotlo on their feet. Dominated Nolf 2 out of three rounds standing.
Nolf was holding back in his hand fighting, don't know why....
@@Thebluesky0311it's just not his sport. Any mistake and you get submitted
this is a poor analysis. Not at all true. Nolf was in control on the feet, hard stop. He chose to be cautious because as soon as they hit the ground, it was Tye's game. It's kind of like, you want the takedown, but do you want to be there afterward.
@@Michael-ii9fs poor analysis? 1st period Tye initiated the 1st td attempt. stopped 2 Takedowns was as heavy hands if not heavier than NOLF purposely gave up a TD to get nolf in a guillotine. Even stopped a 3rd attempt from nolf late in the period. Tye an absolute monster on his feet. Maybe I was wrong dominated NOLF 3 of 3 rounds on their feet. I'm going back to watch the 2nd and 3rd period. Looked like he completely shut down NOLF the 1st period. I see the total opposite Tye on their feet controlled NOLF.
2nd round very nice hard takedown from NOLF, no control after, Tye able to return to his feet easy. NOLF still getting heavy handed and moved around. 2nd TD attempt by NOLF countered and almost crucifixed. So yah Tye wins that round on their feet also.
In a real fight nolf destroys him
Jason Nolf was pathetic in this match. As a wrestling coach and fan of his, I am embarrassed.
Did we watch the same match??
I’m sure you’d do much better against someone like Tye huh mr wrestling coach
Keep chugging beers and dreaming of your high school glory days.
High level jiujitsu guys are terrified of losing and making mistakes so they dont take chances. Sooo boring!
Nolf did well but he got caught. Don’t be a baby about it
CHI lost credibility with these fake matches
nolff is somewhere below white belt in terms of grappling skills
He wouldn’t have survived this long with one of the best in the world 😂 I know he isn’t a black belt but he is one of the best wrestlers in the world this is a pretty delusional take
Most purple and brown belts wouldn’t do this well against a guy like tye what are you smoking
you can take him easy then can’t you?
Clearly not
@@jamesdayton5712 dude wrestling isn’t grappling. Any mid bjj guy could submit him inside a round by pulling guard and attacking his legs.
