I used to listen to this song while commuting 90 miles to and from university three to four days a week when I decided to collect my books and head on back to school at age 45 to finally finish my bachelor degree that took only 20 years to complete. You know life things like work and family took over for awhile but I got it done. Nearly killed me spending 3 years with all of the hours studying, pulling all nighters writing papers then driving with no sleep during final exams week. This song became my anthem and I would crank it up and sing as loud as I could on that lonely, boring 90 miles of country interstate. It was all worth it when I finally walked across that stage in my cap and gown holding that diploma. Those were the days. 🏫🛣️🎓
Brings me back to my college years, when I hear "It's late September and I really should get back to school" - had a girl friend named Maggie who would drag me back into bed every time I tried to leave.
Maggie May was released in 1970, nothing less than 51 years ago from now, and it still makes me feel like dancing and singing along every time I listen to it.
This song was on the radio the first day my friend and I were riding to school (sophomore year) in his 1964 Skylark with the top down. They played it so often I knew the lyrics in about a week. This is my favorite Rod song. It sticks in your head but that ain't a bad thing. I like to jam along with this video, Woody tears it up. Great musicians, great song, the best R&R voice in the business.
I'm 70 next week was 18 at Xmas 1970 when this was No1. Had my hair in a Rod Stewart cut and danced all night at the Office party to Maggie May. What a night that was is "Every Way". Loved him ever since!!!

@David Michaels Up to a point I agree but sometimes a project would have been a loser if it didn't have right director, cast etc. Imagine if Future had been made 5 years earlier with a not so tight original script and starring David Cassidy . Or if Casablanca was made with original studio casting idea of Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan and original end where she stays. Maggie Mae was perfect for Rod post Faces early solo era.

I agree with. I always felt Ron's rightful place , where added the most to a band is when he plays with Rod. He's good with the stones but he and Richards are to much alike .

This song is more than 50 years old and it doesn’t matter if you’ve been listening to it for those 50 years or not, the second u hear it playing causes the same excitement that it did 50 years ago and that is one hell of an accomplishment. It just doesn’t wear out or get old, and even more beautiful is the fact that kids today hearing it for the first time fall in love with it just as quickly as listeners did when it came out. Check out the covers on TH-cam alone and you’ll see what I mean…they like it enough to learn to play it and post it for the world to see. It’s a very rare achievement, writing a song that affects SO many people n a great way for SO long and that possibly may never end. Not only has Rod Stewart done that with this song, he did it with a handful of songs. It’s an amazing thing to happen, and even though he’ll never hear or see this, I’d like to say thank you for giving the world ur songs. I’m 48 yes old and have listened to these songs since I was a child overhearing my mother playing them while she would get fixed up to go out, and I’ve used them a lot of times to help pick my moods up when I was really down about some things here or there and to really pump myself up before going out, like my mom used to. Rod Stewart had a world-class voice. But his greatness comes in large part by those guys sitting around him lying down the groove. Few on earth can play guitar like Ron Wood.

Something that always seems to be overlooked or at least unspoken about; the guitar solo. While its not a technically incredible solo it is totally iconic! I bet anyone who loves this tune can hum the whole guitar solo.
One of the BEST artists and one of THE best songs EVER! Few know that, per his own admission on a talk show, Rod had a real "Maggie," an older woman whom he loved, and who dumped him pretty much as the lyrics say. He was young and in love, and she was older but NOT. SAD!!! GREAT lyrics and composition, and he sings it so well probably because it happened to him!
Of all the countess recordings of this wonderful song, this must rank in the top echelons of being the best. The backing band is faultless, especially the bass player, never ever get tired of watching this video. Sounds as fresh today as it did 50 years ago. Utter bliss.
It was 1971 and I was in Arizona in the Army about to leave for Vietnam. This song always brings back lots of memories and it's still one of my favorites. Rod Stewart's not bad either.
I KNOW that feeling. This song was playing as I was headed to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX for basic training. I had a tinny sounding tape recorder with a set of headphones I replaced the jack on to fit the recorder. I sat in the back of the bus leaving San Jose and I was 17 years old. I had no idea what I was in for until I first "stepped out" of an airplane with a parachute on my back. That did it for me, I was hooked on that feeling of freefall, which I didn't get on any static line jumps but later. I'm 60 now and looking back, it's been a helluva ride and it all started with Maggie May and Rod Stewart and leaving the Bay Area, my adopted home, for a life of service to the country I love and treasure more than anything but my family. Oh and GO ARMY! Dad was 82nd Airborne and I was an Army Brat. So, 1121gsm, "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" to this great country. Regardless of its faults, there's no better place on earth and I've been to most of the places on earth so I know what I'm talking about.
Sorry Tom, the whole song is a classic of sorts, instrumentals so good, Rod, who else could have nailed that as well as he did? Just a bloody good song, expertly performed, love it
Ya know Rod, I was in high school when you came out with this one. I was hooked on your music after that. Watched your style of performance and the slightly scratchy sound of your voice was all it took. This particular song was so great. I learned every word. I’m so happy that I can just pull you up on TH-cam videos and watch all your performances. I’m grateful that this is possible because as we grow older, we love to reminisce about the happier times in our youth. And through your music, I will always be, FOREVER YOUNG. Thank you my friend.
I was in jr high when I heard this song and have been in love ever since. I saw him twice in concert. Many, many memories when listening to my records with my friends.
Man, you are so pleasant, I can feel the vibration in my omelet. What beautiful things have you done for people, since you have such a gift from your boss (God)? You have my respect wherever we meet. I love the music and the songs you sing and represent. To be loved, Adrian Dragoi from Bucharest, Romania. I respect what my girl Victoria says.

Ron Wood is a legend. 🎼🎶
I so love listening to Ron wood when he's away from the stones
He just seems to fly
This is the best version of MM I have heard
So true. He is so stifled with the stones. Love his guitar work with the Faces. Pure unadulterated rock and roll!
Agree
@@bobcaygeon4533 totally agree, when ever you see Ronnie & Rod play together it really is special and you can see how much they love it as well
Rod, I don't think that anyone has the artistic feel as you! EVER!
Wow. I’ll never get tired of that beautiful song. The mandolin is haunting. Ronnie and Roddy ❤️
Mandolin wind...
Twoja piosenka jest ukojeniem dla duszy serca 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍❤️
Satamente
This may be my favorite song of all time. Every young man should have a Maggie May in his life.
Ahh, if only!
a couple "Maggie's" and "I was only Joking" as the soundtrack to your teens, sounds about right
Die beiden einfach nur Sahne❤❤❤❤ich liebe dieses Lied über alles....hoffe ich höre es live am19.6. 24 in Leipzig❤️😍💥💯🎸
Of all the countess recordings of this wonderful song, this must rank in the top echelons of being the best. The backing band is faultless, especially the bass player, never ever get tired of watching this video. Sounds as fresh today as it did 50 years ago. Utter bliss.
What a voice! Golden! Nobody else should sing this song ever!
Ron and Rod must have great stories 🏴🏴
I’m awake now Rod
~love you’s anyway, Maggie ❤
What a great performance. I used to have this sung to me in the playground in the early 70’s!
I love the mandolin in the song, best part and of course Rod’s voice and the lyrics everything just gels
Hi Diana💐💐
It was 1971 and I was in Arizona in the Army about to leave for Vietnam. This song always brings back lots of memories and it's still one of my favorites. Rod Stewart's not bad either.
Welcome home! Never forget!

Happy you made back home
Hats of too you. 😊....
Rod&ronnie the best music!!🎸🏴
Legendary 🎧💖
The guitar solo makes the song, that Transcendent guitar solo
