D'Amato is the greatest trainer of all time because he had exact answers, tactics and conditioning methods to over come the most effective weapon in boxing, the jab from a taller fighter. If you can effectively avoid and counter a fighters jab, it is likely that he will not be able to land any of his other punches.

Yes D'Amato was one of a kind, before Muhammad Ali got on the plane to Zaire he called cus and asked him how to defeat George Foreman, cus replied that in order to beat George Ali must come out and show George that he wasn't afraid of him because George was a bully type and by standing up to the bully in George he would lose heart and lose, we all remember what ali did in the first round with the right hand leads ! The rest is history.

+mymentor he's up there. Very smart boxing mind. I just don't understand why he trained such a one dimensional style as his style only knows how to come forward. That's why floyd patterson and cus ducked sonny liston for the longest time because it was a nightmare matchup stylistically. He shouldve taught his fighters how to box when swarming didnt work.. but i guess height and reach were the reasons why he never did.

It's been said in sports that a great coach is a teacher of life to young men. That being said, Cus D'Amato should be recognized as the greatest "coach" in the history of sports, above Wooden,Rockne,Gable,Krzyzewski,Knight, or ANYONE. Cus D'Amato and Jackie McCoy were the GREATEST men boxing has ever produced. They loved fighters more than they loved money.

I've spent many years trying to experience this click in my mind, where I turn on and take everything I know, then create this awesome life. Today I've realized that it takes a spark to create a roaring blaze. That spark has to be fueled and energized by consistent action, visualization, positive thinking, and the works. That is why I ended up here because I remembered this speech. Then it did not register but today it really has. That roaring blaze doesn't happen overnight if you aren't taking action and fueling your spark with the right fuel.

@4:27 you can almost hear the sadness in tyson voice. It's almost like he's thinking to himself, "Wow this old man was right about everything and I can't thank him" the heavyweight division died when tyson left and I don't think anyone will disagree

Manly tears were shed watching this. I wish Cus lived long enough to see Mike become the champ, he always knew Mike will be and saved him from that Scumbag Don.

Cus was a great man who gave lost young boys hope, care and taught them boxing. He was a father to Mike, his love was upright, deep and strong. That's why Mike is, since then, like a fatherless child, which is ok if your father is a danger to you as a child but if you have a father like Cus and you start enjoying true love and then he dies, you've got the blues for the rest of your life.
