    I like the fact there's a video that touches on this subject. It took me forever and a day to notice about the original Predator movie, but every time the Predator makes a kill, he changes the way he kills his prey to make it a fair kill.
    Hawkins had his weapon out, but didn't have it up and wasn't scanning the environment for threats, so the Predator didn't use his plasma caster. Instead, he made noise until both Anna and Hawkins noticed, and then moved in on foot and killed Hawkins by hand.
    Blain had his weapon out and was not only actively scanning the environment, but actively firing into it. Shooting him from cover was therefore acceptable.
    Mac had figured out how to spot the Predator even while cloaked, so there was no reason to turn the cloak off. He was also actively tracking the Predator, so it was fine for the Predator to shoot him, but only after using Mac's own actions against him, letting him put himself into position to be shot.
    Dillon had his weapon out and was actively scanning his environment for the Predator, so it was also acceptable to shoot him, except the shot didn't connect solidly, and disarmed him (ba-dum-bump!). The Predator could have fired a second shot to finish him off at this point, but didn't. Instead, he switched tactics and began to close the distance on foot, even slowing down to a walk in order to give Dillon enough time to un-sling his second weapon and aim it at the Predator before it made the kill.
    We don't see Billy's death, so we can't say for certain how he died, though the last time we see him alive is through the Predator's point of view as he closes the distance on foot. Given his behavior elsewhere, and judging by the state of Billy's corpse later, it's probably safe to say he was killed hand-to-hand.
    Poncho was wounded, true enough, but he did have his weapon drawn and ready, and he was looking for the Predator, so it was still acceptable to circle around out of his line of fire and take him out by shooting him.
    Anna was unarmed and posed no threat, so he couldn't kill her.
    Dutch was firing at the Predator the first time, so it was acceptable to shoot him, but he got away.
    During their second fight, as long as Dutch was using explosives and projectile weapons against the Predator, it was fine for the Predator to attempt to shoot him. However, once the Predator caught him, it became obvious Dutch was disarmed, and his breathing was distressed. The Predator therefore discarded his plasma caster and breathing mask, so he would have to fight Dutch unarmed and unable to breathe comfortably... or in other words, on as even terms as possible.
    "But what about his arm blades," you might be thinking. "He pulled those out at the end of the fight."
    Yes, he did, but only after Dutch had been so thoroughly defeated that he was literally crawling away from the Predator, dragging his legs behind him. As far as the Predator knew, he had crippled his opponent, which meant it was time to dispatch his prey in the most humane way possible. That's a rule we ourselves tend to abide by when hunting. We can take a very long time to hunt an animal down, but once we've crippled it, there's an expectation among most people-- especially serious hunters-- that it's time to put a swift end to the hunt and put the animal out of its misery. The hunters who purposefully drag things out and let the animal linger on in pain and suffering, we tend to look down on with anger and disgust. So the arm blades make sense in that context.
    Like I said, it took me forever to notice, but once I did, I was amazed at the amount of thought and detail they put into the actions of what everyone would have been happy with being just another mindless movie monster in a throwaway action/sci-fi flick.
    Maybe that's part of the reason Predator has endured for this long.

      I didn't forget. It didn't happen like that.
      Dutch tries to use a log/large branch to hit the Predator as his opening strike. The Predator simply blocks the hit with his forearm, and Dutch has just enough time to say "bad idea" before the Predator backhands him and knocks him across the pool of water they're standing in.
      Dutch then scrambles over a boulder, and the Predator takes a swipe at his legs.
      However, there are two things about that.
      First, we don't know for sure if the Predator was trying to hit Dutch or if that was simply him grabbing at Dutch's leg. It's likely the latter, since such a move probably wouldn't have hurt Dutch in any important fashion. Dutch can't outrun the Predator, and the Predator is aware of that, so it has no need to hobble him, a fact it shows it's aware of by not bothering to run after Dutch in order to keep up with him, even as Dutch runs away. And if it was looking to wound him with that strike, there were better targets in reach the Predator could have used his claws on. The fact he didn't, but swung at the trailing edge of Dutch's leg suggests that it was a grab, and that the claws raking across the boulder were simply a result of the fact the Predator missed. If you don't believe me, pretend there's something on a wall that you want to grab, and try to snatch it off the wall really fast. See how your hand connects with the wall because you "miss" the pretend object.
      Second, even if it was an attack and not a grab, it wouldn't have violated the rules of the fight or the pattern of behavior the Predator engages in throughout the rest of the film, because it's still an unarmed attack on the Predator's part.

    • @AndiGravity
      @AndiGravity 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      And I agree. I don't think the Predator wanted the fight to be over quickly. I think Dutch had thoroughly annoyed it by that point, and it wanted to beat some of its frustrations out of him before it finished the job.

      Nice analysis but I have one question. You said the Predator gave Dillon time for him to unsling his second rifle so why didn't it gave Hawkins time to aim his rifle and shoot it at least before it killed him? The same thing can be said about Blain since it could've made some noises like you said it did against Hawkins so as to attract his attention make him a worthy game

    As a kid, I hated the Predators and thought of them as nothing more than a violent alien race who enjoyed killing other creatures just for the sport and joy of it. But after re-watching the movies as an adult in later years, I began to understand them and appreciate them. Their *HUNT* with their strict Honor Code earns them our respect alongside our fear of them. With this additional information, I know appreciate and respect them more.

      We humans kill each other for the sake of it and we don't even try to hide it. I'm surprised humanity never declared a full blown war against the yaujta. I mean if we advance fast enough.

    • @jonathanathor117
      @jonathanathor117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has there ever a race of aliens or has humanity ever put their foot and said enough is enough and just declare war on the predators? And I mean like a humungous battle like independence day or war of the worlds or halo. I mean the predators have advanced space ships that can cloak, are fast, and apparently create portals. The individual predator has cloaking and advanced plasma weaponry and armor. Surly they have to made enemies out there.
      I'm not just referring to xenomorphs, I'm referring to another species who are technologically advanced declared war on the predators because they don't want them invading their planet and being hunted like rabbits. Clearly that has to happen.
      I mean the Yaujta and engineers have history and some bad blood for example. Is there any other instance. It would be interesting to see a movie or a short about that kind of thing. Like who would win in a fight an army of soldiers with the best weapons their planet could offer or a group of alien hunters with advanced weaponry and utilise stealth and the environment.
      Maybe humanity in the future humanity got fed up of yaujta and just go to town on the home world of Yaujta prime or any other homwworld they come from because let's be honest they have to have colonize other planets. They can travel to space with ease. Make it into something like devilman and have both sides in the end feel like shit after.

Wristblades. spearguns. throwing disks dictate they delcoak before engagement (not sure if this is actual lore but rather only implemented as a game mechanics in the various older Predator game titles)

      They are very powerful indeed. But we don't know their numbers and war technology. They build their tech around hunting and stealth. On the other hand we humans are warmongers, meaning we train soldiers for conflict and war and our tech is built around war. We don't have space travel but we do have planetary scale defence systems, and A LOT of nuclear weapons, like a shitload of em.
      I don't think they want open conflict with us anyways, they would definitely take a big loss even if they were to win the war.
      We are different types of species with different focus. We are very heavily focused on conflict and war and we literally thrive in times of war, we adapt fast and develop technologies at a staggering rate when at war. Just look at WWII, the technology made huge leaps every single year and most tech we use today was either invented or gas roots in WWII. They won't be able to wipe out almost 8 billion of us in an instant, so they probably know that provoking us would only make us stronger and more resilient, capable to adapt super fast. We humans severely underestimate ourselves! In our Galaxy we might be ones of the superior races. In 50 years humanity will have fusion energy, quantum computers , robots, advanced AI and actual bio engineering, together with many other amazing technologies.
      There is a possibility that we might be one of the most advanced species of intelligence in our Galaxy, maybe the only one.

    That's one thing I love about the Predator franchise, the Honor Code.
    Most people think "Honor" is something that's benevolent and righteous, but it's anything BUT that.
    Honor is a word derived of making sure the hunt is always ripe and fulfilling.
    To constantly kill unworthy targets makes hunts boring overtime and robs the hunter of any type of catharsis once the hunt reaches its end. It also makes sure that any kill you take IS something to brag about later.
    Honor has never been there to defend the weak, it's always been an exaltation of yourself and your worth as a killer.

    I honestly love the Yautja, regardless of what The Predator did to their lore. However, on Yautja Prime, there are multiple Predator factions with their own ideals. So, in The Predator, we’ve probably seen an example of one of those many factions. This makes me wonder if their own species is currently in a state of civil war on their homeworld.

    I have a theory about the Hunt, it came to me after seeing the latest trailer. I think the purpose of the hunt is evolution of the species. Mankind has stopped evolving because we have stopped adapting to our environments, instead, we adapt it to serve us, building shelters, then cities, technology, etc.
    I think the Predators were like us, they've clearly been at the game for much longer, and probably reached a state of Post-Scarcity. With that, they probably lost their sense of purpose, and that society probably collapsed. They then reformed their society to be based around the hunt, putting themselves in fair competition with dangerous lifeforms to force themselves to adapt.
    I suspect the plot of The Predator, is that when they come across a foe that continually defeats them, they do an 'upgrade', maybe, possibly. This is perhaps why they view the Xenomorphs so highly. It's probably what the blood feud with the super predators is about. They want to evolve just because, the other Predators believe that, that is not really evolution, just mutations.

      Yep, cause they always insist on making the films from the perspective of the one and done boring human Characters we all know will end up dying or not being brought back for another film.
      The movies should be set from their perspective, a certain clan and a few young bloods - you could see their interactions with other clans and their different hunts. People would develop their favourites. And would watch to see what happens to their favourite in each film. Shame hollywood are rather un - original these days.

    You have to wonder if there is a lawfirm or legal council on their planet looked down upon by the hunters, yet critical for arbitration and preventing anarchy from driving them to extinction. • @DLordSadow
      @DLordSadow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You bring up an interesting point. One that I’ve thought about with the Predators. They can’t have a society that is consumed with hunting for sport. They need engineers, doctors, researchers, artists, teachers, and yes, bureaucrats. Otherwise, they’d never have made it out of the dark ages. Their ships, weapons, and gear don’t grow on trees. Someone had to develop the technology that goes into that stuff. Someone had to them use that knowledge to design each of those things. Then, someone had to build them. Then there’s the need for an education system, so that the Yautjas have the ability to read the instructions on how to use the gear and ships. I guess the other possibility is that the Yautja are some kind of post-apocalyptic society. The remnants of a once great society that now is consumed with sport hunting in it’s twilight.

    • @ThisPageStaysREAL
      @ThisPageStaysREAL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DLordSadow At least a class system, where there are blue collar workers who dont have the finances to go on the hunt, versus those who do. Basically just like the rich who spend a ton of money to go to africa and bag a lion. Either that or as you said its post apocalyptic, and they decided to use the military scrap to begin intergalactic hunting as a culture using extreme socialism / communism to produce the machinery needed.

    • @DLordSadow
      @DLordSadow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bishop Don Digimon Farrakhan Magic Juan If it is some kind of caste system with only a small rich elite doing the hunting, that makes some sense and is kinda what I’d suspect. Which means that the Jungle Predator might have been a vacationing banker. The City Predator from might have been a trust fund kid (that would explain his arrogance and all the gear he had). The super Predators might have been rich poachers who bribed the authorities to not crack down on them (that would explain how they could operate with impunity on the gaming preserve and why they attacked the other Predators). Douchiness might be a universal theme crossing species across the cosmos.

    • @ThisPageStaysREAL
      @ThisPageStaysREAL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DLordSadow The latest film (which im not a fan of) does support that logic, as some form of governance is in place, along with a science division. Somebody back at HQ decided to hire a mercenary freelance agent to hunt down a rogue predator. It would also seem that there is a private sector (who developed the tony start iron-man suit) making gear to sell to the rich or for military use. Funny to think about some blue collar predator just washing dishes or doing telemarketing to put himself thru college in hopes of one day going on a hunt. I'd pay to see that movie.
