Great video, and enjoyable to watch like Peter Chan. I have about 10 that I bought last year bare root, I started doing a little wiring and I think I will put them in grow bags in the ground, see if I can bulk them up before I create a forest.
Thank you for the kind words! It sounds like you have a great plan to develop your trees. Putting them in grow bags in the ground can definitely help them bulk up and develop stronger root systems!!🌳
Your videos are always great. Love larch. We have them growing wild here in Michigan, USA. They are easy to collect and enjoyable in all seasons. Great demo. Thanks.
Nice start to this one Adam. I started on Larch and they remain my favourite species for bonsai. So good to learn all your techniques on and brilliant for beginners. Cheers :)
I liked the tip on how to check if the wire will be strong enough to use on the branch! Also, what is the best thing to use to keep tools clean, just like rubbing alcohol or something?
Good educational video for beginners my friend. Well done. Did I see you put the mesh on the outside of the pot ? on the second tree. BTW Larch are my favourite species, to tell the difference between Japanese and European Larch If the tree has cones the Japanese cone has a bend on the lop of the platelets, the European has straight platelets also the bark is a but lighter also the foliage on the Japanese is a bit lighter and more delicate.
Thank you Joe! Yeah I put this one on the outside! (no reason for it just felt like it at the time lol) Thank you for this info on larch identification!
I have done it on maples with success! Have not tried hornbeam. It might be worth a shot to see, just make sure you keep some of the other roots below that area. I dont see why it wouldnt work, if the tree can be air layered then theoretically this should work on them! Just make sure to apply some good rooting hormone with the active ingredient IBA 🙂 Keep me updated if you try it!
Hey Adam, love your videos! May I ask if there's a specific reason why you did the styling before repotting on this one? Just looking to learn as much as I can before I launch into my very first bonsai this spring.
Hey Anthony! Glad you're enjoying the videos! 😊 I decided to style this one before repotting as if I did it after repotting, the tree would be less stable in the new pot so as I wire, it will be wobbling a lot and will be trickier to manage 😃
Hi! You can cut the main middle root, or taproot, when you're first repotting your bonsai seedling or young tree. The best time to do this is during the early spring, just before the growing season starts. This timing allows the tree to recover and produce new roots during the active growth period. Make sure to leave some smaller feeder roots to ensure the tree can still absorb water and nutrients effectively. 🌱😊
Hi Adam, I'm a beginner in Bonsai but I've acquired a nice collection of trees, mostly deciduous, some with great potential, my health is not great and I'm looking for someone to pass them onto when I'm not here or unable to look after them, would you be interested? I'm about 50 miles from you, thanks
Hey Howard, thanks for reaching out! I'd love to take a look at your collection and see what trees you have. Feel free to send me an email at notionbonsai@gmail.com or message me on Instagram 😊
The Bob Ross of Bonsai. You are a very good teacher.
Hey thank you for the kind words James!! 🙂
Haha. You’ll have to grow a beard Adam 😂
Agreed
Yes, but the Fro would be amazing!
Possibly the best "Introduction to Bonsai Techniques" video I have ever seen! Nice work Adam!
You should do a tour of all your trees and how they’re doing and maybe what the plans are for them in the summer😃 (or when they look the best)
Hey! I may do this in the future 🙂
Notion Bonsai, Subscribed because your videos always make me smile!
Thank you very much for subscribing! 🙂
Your wiring demo is an absolute essential for beginners. A great video, very helpful.
Thanks very much Mick! 🙂
Hi, thank you for sharing your extraordinary knowledge (for your young age) , I appreciate every single lesson / video .
Your descriptions and explanations are wonderful. Thank you

Japanese larch is my new favourite in my collection. I might get another...

Such extraordinary videos Adam!
Great video very informative and the trees looks good too 👍🏼
Hey! Thanks BonsaiExpression!
They turned out great, awesome job. ❤
Thanks Barbara 🙂
Very interesting and informative. Thanks!
Thank you 🙂
Nice clear tutorial.
I find 1mm wire almost pointless as it is not strong enough to shape or hold all but the very thinnest of branches.
I use 1mm wire on all my smaller silver birch branches and juniper too. It does have a use but is just a pain to apply and remove :)
Thanks Jason! This is so true!!
Another helpful tutorial, thanks a lot.
Glad it was helpful 🙂
Great video! Update on your cherry trees please. Let’s see some successes and set backs 👍 We all have them
I will do an update on these one soon! 😊
Great video
Awesome work!
Thanks very much!

Yes this can be used no problem! I personally use a dilute solution of Hydrogen peroxide if i have been working on infected trees 🙂
Great video Adam mate 👊👊
Thanks Andy! 👍
Thanks! So well explained!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey I love your video and I am just starting. Do you have a video on willow bonsai?
Not yet! Welcome to the world of Bonsai Sarah!
Have you tried the scrape off bark method to promote roots on hornbeams or maples? got some with a big bare spot id like to try it on

Hey Adam I was curious if you have ambitions to get into shows, are just a collector or if you have aspirations of one day selling your styled trees?

When do you remove the wire?
When it bites in slightly to the trunk. this will be enough to hold it in place!
Can you try make a bonsai with rosemary?
Awesome 🤘🍻🤘
Thanks ✌️

You can't possibly know who Bob Ross was??? Did you have to google him?
I know him! I used to watch him paint all the time when I was younger 😄 Even tried to follow along with some of his paintings!
