Here we are, August 2023, and this opening is still the best mood setter for any Halloween theme there ever has been and yet to come.
35 years later
Love it or hate it, this movie drips with Halloween imagery. The leaves, the sky, the wind; I can almost smell it.
Hands down the best Michael Myers movie to date.
Halloween 4 captured the spooky atmosphere of the original. I just wish the mask was more like the poster and the original design. It was awful. And what was going on with Michael's body in this movie? It looks so off.

Honestly my favorite intro of the series. This film is seriously underrated and way better than the garbage I saw in theaters this year.
I’ve always considered this opening to be the best in the series - even over the original. The original Halloween opening is iconic, don’t get me wrong. But Halloween 4’s perfectly captures that damp, chilly, crisp, and breezy October feeling; with something menacing on the horizon.

What makes it all the more interesting is all of this was filmed in the greater Salt Lake City, Utah area…not exactly a place associated with fall or Halloween

With just some soft, eerie music, and some shots of late October/Halloween scenery, they managed to create such an ominous atmosphere. I was always impressed by this simple, but effective opening to the movie.
Aside from the mountains, I would say this is the midwest to a tee. One of my most favorite title sequences ever.

No way, Halloween 4 is highly regarded. The mask that Michael Myers uses though sucks and is the worst mask of the entire franchise. Also, while this isn't Halloween 4's fault, the fact that it ends with a major cliffhanger and was then followed up by 5...... and then that was followed up by Curse.... those two movies kind of ruined 4's legacy

It’s almost time for the Halloween season. Makes me kind of sad because my dad the man who got me into the Halloween spirit passed away In January. Rest in peace dad. I’ll always celebrate spooky season in your memory.
I actually use this opening title sequence when I talk about how Midwestern Fall feels to people outside the region. The fields of grain/corn, the decorations, the weather, etc.

I love fall and Halloween. This opening footage is so beautiful, yet it also has an ominous feeling of dread. I love it.
The eerie music and the awesome shot sequence just makes this opening scene incredible. It’s such a great atmosphere for a Halloween movie. There have been some great title sequences in this franchise, but this is perhaps the best.
There’s more mood and ambiance in this title sequence than in all of parts 5,6, H20 and Resurrection
The still shots almost have a Tarkovsky quality to it.
So I came back to this after watching Halloween Ends.
I’m glad I did.
Real Halloween sequels were all made in the 80's. Once you get to the 90's, they're always trying to fix things that were never broken.

"Halloween 6" had a great atmosphere but it's story was a fucking mess because of studio interference, two idiotic morons ( I'm sure you know who ), recasted character, too many cooks in the kitchen trying to dictate this movie. Then, I'm pretty sure the gorey stuff is to make up for the lack of a story ( Theatrical Cut ). Plus, there are at least *three* alternate cuts: "Producer's Cut", "Director's Cut", and "Rough Cut". I have watched "Halloween: H20" and I'm not sure what to think of it.

One of the best opening credits you're ever gonna see.. best part of the film too, if you ask me. Everything right up to the moment before you see the ambulance. Shot very well, great colors, great sound, great imagery, perfect framing of the imagery and the slow build to dread.
Man if you grew in the Midwest. This is exactly what Halloween looked. As weird as it is to say this is a time capsule on its own.
The very beginning/opening title sequence to “Twister” from the 90’s has the same look and feel to this, in a way.
This movie despite being a decent sequel to the first two films the opening credits of this film is fucking awesome.
Love this, especially since this October was warmer than usual and we didn't get this weather environment until around the end of the month.
Just love the eerie intro, with all of the autumnal images. Just screams October!

The homemade simple decorations left just on the edge of the Wild the abandoned places, the wind whipping with winter on its coattails, the places that witness the evil & fear rise only to rest on these lands…the feeling that all this is because of him.
still my favorite intro in the whole halloween series!!! in my opinion this intro sets the whole movie for 4 and the build up for Michael Myers to come outta the coma!!!

a good start, dwight did a very good job (without being excellent I must admit) with halloween 4, he deserved to have another participation as director for the saga, both halloween 5 and part 6 would have done a little better, I consider this 4th part one of the most entertaining sequels to Halloween and with more quality, removing the new trilogy that was made in 2018, Halloween 4 and H20 are the most salvageable after part two.

The next Halloween project needs to be set in a location like this, Michael goes to Russellville, the neighbour town to Haddonfield. Fields, farms, barns, etc. Have the same kind of mood and atmosphere like this opening.

Halloween III was probably - the best sequel.
I disagree. It’s probably the only decent one in the batch outside of the original two films. Everything else aside from 1, 2, 4, and the 2018 film is unwatchable in my opinion.

I love the original series of parts 1-6 Producers cut. Everything after those are bad reboots and remakes and they are sad
Halloween 4 is best sequel of all...
Most of my favorites stick with the traditional Jack O'lantern motif(1,2,and 5). But I'd have to consider this to be just as good, and a really nice way to find some variety, while still remaining within the confines of traditional Halloween Americana.

The Witching Hour anthology show on Amazon is heavily influenced by the H4 opening.
When I first rented this one the intro reminded me so much of the intro to Field of Dreams.

Moustapha Akkad got too much wrong in this entry. Haddonfield looked unfamiliar because none of the location shots are the same as the previous movies. Micheal's house isn't the same. It would have been great to have some sort of consistancy here. No Laurie Strode, The masks used for Michael Meyers were weird looking and generic. The whole vibe was just wrong. I could never get passed the things that didn't make sense. H2O same difference. New unrelated locations, New characters that shouldn't be (Laurie's son, instead of supposed daughter in two previous films.) Jamie is in good form here, but you'd think she'd know her own brother wasn
t the one she beheaded. Just vibes were off in this film. You could tell John Carpenter had no hands in this film.
