Ray Allen during his prime is a Monster. He can score anywhere. Damn.
Yeah I hate how the Celtics reduced him to a catch and shoot player, because he could create his own shots off the dribble and he was deadly asf from mid range aswell as from 3 point range
@@LFonzus thats what happens when you have too much talented guys on one team, you have to reduce their roles, and it worked out, they all complemented each other, but had to sacrifice certain aspects of their game
That guy on the Celtics had me so fooled, I thought he was a catch and shoot specialists only. The guy was a top 5 shooting guard with an all around game to match. He definitely sacrificed the most on Celtics teams.
He definitely sacrificed a lot but to be fair he was already 30+ when he went to Boston after he kept losing in Seattle... I can respect that he valued winning over stats but he was still nearing the end of his prime so it only made sense
Edit: unlike another great player from the same draft in Allen Iverson who I wish could’ve changed his mentality like Ray

@@klam05 Ray Ray's shot on 2k11 was absolutely terrible. It was way too quick. I thought it was uncomfortable to shoot with him.
I remember these days when everybody was riding that Kobe and Tmac wave, i was with Ray. Always thought that he was the ultimate scorer of his time, not just a shooter, a SCORER. Went against Nash during the great 7 seconds or less Suns days, and they took the game to them. Even gave the Spurs a headache. Ray was the ultimate scorer.
And time showed he probably had less of an ego... granted T-Mac had injuries along with Yao in Houston but Ray going from a #1 guy to sometimes the 3rd option in Boston really shows he cared less about his status and more about winning

his footwork is unbelievable coming off screens and reading screens
MJ is the 🐐 But RayRay is the best SG I've ever seen at moving without the ball. He used screens masterfully, quick shooting out of catches and using footwork to create space and be able to move to his spots. Early on with Milwaukee he was more athletic, played better defense and was more of a iso scorer. But in order to have a long career he really mastered the art of being the definition of a shooting guard.
Looking back at these highlights makes me wonder what Klay Thompson could do if he was ever the #1 option
Edit: definitely not as skilled as a ball handler to create his own shot but Klay’s movement without the ball and ability to completely ignore a defender in his face is really a lot like Ray Allen

Yeah I just meant consistently... he’s never been the guy to handle it off the dribble and make plays for other people as well as himself - he’s more of an off ball, running around screens type of guy and can still average 20+ doing that because he’s a phenomenal player

He did this on kirilinko and fisher... He makes scoring look like an art, his pull up is perfect, just like they teach you to shoot at the peak of your jump.
Fisher's an ok defender. But Kirilenko is another beast, that dude was looooooooong and could do everything on defense.
You're actually supposed to shoot just before at the peak of your jump. Because if you shoot at the peak, it turns your jumper into a two motion shot, which makes your jumper more rigid and inconsistent. You can definitely succeed with a two motion jumper, but you're progress will take a lot longer. There aren't many two motion shooters in the league now. LeBron, Jimmy Butler, and Westbrook are one of the last few players in the league to have a two motion jumper.
Imagine if Ray always plays like this during his stay with the Celtics, they could've had at least 3 chips
