Bottle raised baby fox squirrel loves his daddy too much to leave home and was released two years ago. I am a licensed rehabilitation home for orphaned squirrels. Over the past five years I have released over 20 squirrels, but "peanut" is the only one that comes when I call him.

squirrels are very underrated, if you spend time feeding them and you are nice , they will become your buddies....I have a few outback best animals in the world.....
Thats not true...I raised 4 squirrels from birth before and they all come with their own personality....At this moment I have a female eastern gray squirrel since birth also...now she is 2 months and is very scared of my kids or anything...and I take really good care of her...give her lots love everything, I even took out a license to have her and be able to take her to the vet like any other exotic pet animal out there....

@@sohailmethani1058 haha its quite easy tbh..just give them nuts and don't make many sudden movements. if you get up it will scare them because you are taller than them. just be calm and be low. and also...it takes A LOT of time. not just a week. trust me, for me it took 1 yr and still some squirrels are a bit scared. it also depends on the squirrel. some earn your trust faster than others. but the end result is WORTH IT! little squirrel friends are the best buddies XD
Bless people like this, who truly understand and appreciate that animals, any animals, are not for our enjoyment but to look out for and, if necessary, to take care of when needed. How precious is this little one.
Squirrel mania. Most underrated rodent. I ran out of my squirrel Pete's supply of mixed nuts. He love pecan pie pieces with p.butter on top.
How do you get them to drink water. I put out a jar lid with water.

@@davidrudd6524 Your'e so right. Squirrels love peanut butter. Every day I put out a dish that contains peanuts or peanut chips and a large gob of peanut butter. In case you want to know they also love pretzels covered with yogurt and love love love banana chips. As for getting them to drink water. No problem. Put a 'weighted' dish, such as a Pyrex baking dish, filled with cold water almost beside where they eat and when the weather is really hot you'll see how much they appreciate it.
@@justrescueone they like the salt. Triskets cut in half, p.b. on it then a dash of sugar. my squirrel buddy Pete eats better than I do.
@@davidrudd6524 I laughed when you said Pete eats better than you do. I know exactly what you mean. My house backyard backs onto a ravine. During the day it's the grey, black and red squirrels that get fed along with the rabbits, and at night the family of opossums that live under my deck get fed along with the raccoons, which I feed by hand. This year we have a baby BLACK raccoon which I never saw in my life before. What a treat. People have no idea what they're missing until you start to interact with wildlife and realize just how intelligent they are how much enjoyment they can add to your life.
@@davidrudd6524 I put out those little clear plastic tubs that you buy Delmonte type peaches and fruit treats in as then they can see it and it works. I put 3 around the garden and refill a few times daily.

Love his fat little belly! Red squirrels are typically a little heavier but you can definitely tell he's packing a little extra!

That is absolutely the ideal pet situation. The squirrel lives its life in the wild, but it comes to visit now and then, then it goes back home. Everyone is free and happy! Can he/she tell you apart from other people at a distance, or will it go and jump on anyone's shoulder? It would be safer for the squirrel if it knew one person from another, and was careful who it approaches.
Actually no. Life in captivity is ideal. Animals are about survival.
When we first moved into our house, we had a bluejay that was like that. It would come by when either my wife or me was sitting on the patio and eat from and sit on our hands. I used to hold on to the peanut and it would wrestle me for it - it looked like both me and the bird got a big kick out that. Like having a cool pet without the overhead.

You did not understand the dogs behavior. Dog build packs with humans and in the pack every dog hunts even if you would not feed your he would probably hunt it by himself and share it with you.
What century are you living in. Dogs just sit in people's yards occasionally going for walks and waiting to be fed (such smart animals). Wild dog's want nothing to do with human's they hunt in their own pack's with their own kind. At least this squirrel can freely roam and CHOOSES to come back to this man. Truly a man's best friend.
Luke Irvine not quite..my german shepherd wanted always a job; just something to do...e.g. when cutting timber, he hauled branches and limbs to the chopping place on his own...he got no food / reward for that; just a pat on the back or a 'nice one' ^^
Luke Irvine Either you never had a dog or are a complete emotional cripple. It takes a minute of observation even while seriously drunk to notice how much more dogs are than what you claim.

This is so cute, it really made my day! I've never seen a squirrel climb down from a tree and jump right up on a human like that. It's really incredible.
You guys have a lot more self-control than I do, though - I'd be such a nervous wreck thinking about that little guy out there in the cold with the hawks, I'd probably try to keep him in the house all winter!

Great video, love animal rehabbers I donate significant dollars to some animal rehab centres in British Columbia, they do such fantastic work like you folks do for squirrels. What a joy to have peanut trust you and hang out with you so cool.

Aww cute! I have a little tame gray squirrel that eats seeds out of my bird feeder every morning. Sometimes I feed him. And he now lets me touch him! X3 I named him Taiko. I live next to a woodland as well, so that makes it easier. ^^

I used to scare them away until last March, when a female squirrel decided I was gunna be her friend and climbed on to my leg and came up to my pocket where I had put some almonds. She took one, looked at me, climbed on my shoulder and ate her almond. She's been coming back everyday since and even jumping in my bedroom window when I don't get up early enough for her.
That's so cute that she trusts you

Beautiful , I too raised a baby and he loved to sit on my shoulder and the bend of my arm, until he found he could sit on top of my head and that's where he liked to stay. Hated to let him go back to the wild but it had to be. He comes around sometimes , miss the days when he was little!

We Love squirrels soooo much. Everyday my son n I play "I spy a squirrel" on route to n from his work. We try putting out different foods n nuts for them. So much fun to watch.
