  • Many sources suggest cutting off the negative to eliminate a short of the switch cables but with a sealed plastic case shorting will be tough. The NHRA mandates cutting off the positive side. I have the positive cut off on 2 motorcycles with no problems over 10 years. Even so, post 28 in the link below convinces me to cutoff the negative cable.

what is the NHRA's reason for cutting of the positive side when doing this?

Battery cutoff switches always go on the negative

You should cut off the negative wire, not positive.
Its too Dangerous if the positive cable or kill switch post short to body

Thanks, that's good info. My concern was if someone tries to start the car it will blow a fuse. The way it is now that can't happen. The switch is in a bolted together plastic box so unless the box shatters it can't short. Still; after more research I switched to the negative. I'll do a follow up vid and take this down later so no one catches their car on fire.

Won’t that box rattle on bumpy roads ?

Possible; I might have to pad it and strap it tight to something.
