  • Cefn Eglwysilan is a 382m hill above Pontypridd in the county of Rhondda Cynon Taff. A classic South Wales Valley hill it offers great views down to Cardiff and the Bristol Channel in the South and the Central Brecon Beacons North. This is a nice and easy walk as the car does most of the ascent!
    This hill forms part of 'The Miners' list, a list I am compiling of the best hills in South Wales. Visit my website for full details of route and parking etc. thewalkingkev.c...
    If you want to support the channel, please drop the video a like and subscribe, it really helps.
    If you want to say thanks for any of my content you can always buy me a coffee - I don't actually drink coffee so any money received would be spent on used camping gear and the odd can of own-brand energy drink.

    This is the hill behind my house. It takes me about 45-55 minutes to walk up from my front door to the trig on a good day. I love walking up there especially during summer evenings after work to watch the sunset. Luckily it's much faster coming back down on foot 😅

      It's a good amount of ascent when walking from the bottom, I did definitely cheat a bit by parking where I did! It's a great hill for catching the sunrise or sunset. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.

    Cracking light and cloudage on that wee hill, nice. You know me I like music with walking videos I think it adds drama to the landscape 👍

      Thanks Tracey. Yes, music can really enhance a walk. Wireless headphones have been one of my best hiking purchases!

    Nice video Kev, shows how in this nutty overcrowded country you can still find solitude.

      Thanks, I often seem to be walking in South Wales in solitude as it seems not many people walk the local hills and Ridgeways.

      Thanks Helen. It's a lovely place, loads of footpaths to take you in different directions and nearby Mynnyd Eglwysilan is also a lovely walk. Great part of the world to live in.

    LOvely video Kev and kudos for getting done while recovering from a cold. Newbie mistake leaving the memory card at home though eh? Always have them stored everywhere I reckon. Some in my wallet, some in the glove box and always one or two in the bag of the day.

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I had all my spare ones in a different camera bag! Not a bad shout leaving some in the car, think I might do the same with tent pegs as well.

    • @jezriggs
      @jezriggs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheWalkingKev Agree with the tent-pegs as well. When walking (and more controversially cycling) I quite often listen to music though more likely when in urban environments. I sometimes gauge how far I've walked by the number of albums in a playlist that I've listened to.

    I've been enjoying your videos recently, Kev, having discovered your channel through Instagram.
    Have you done any walks around Abertillery, Cwmtillery, Coety Mountain?
    All the best.

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Olly. I've done pretty much all the hills in this part of South Wales. Did my first wild camp on Coety mountain and went back to do all the hills in that area - Mynydd James, Gwastad etc. Lots of heather and very few paths!

    Hi Kev, thanks for the video, it certainly looks like a good walk with views. Do you think it would be suitable for wild camping? Cheers Marcus

    • @TheWalkingKev
      @TheWalkingKev  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it would be if you pitched late and left early, and the weather wasn't too good! Would be quiet enough in the rain I'd imagine.
