Follow us on our new adventures in #Greece and the #balkans on @Autourdumonde1 . Between history and gastronomy, this several-week journey will let you discover splendid places from the air. Please note that all images, even those taken by #drone, are shot in #4k.
On the second leg of our journey through Greece and the Balkans, we continue with a fourth episode in Albania. This is in fact our third full day in the country, a journey that will take us from north to south and all the way to the south-west of the country. In fact, we'll first discover the town of #shkodër and its magnificent landscapes before moving on to the country's capital, Tirana. Then we'll head for our next stop, Lake #orhid in #NorthMacedonia.

    Breakfast in Shkodër :
We begin this new episode with a stroll through the town of Shkodër, which takes its name from the immense lake that borders it. Indeed, Lake Shkodër is the largest lake in the Balkans, covering 370 square kilometers. As well as being the main town in the north of the country, Shkodër lies just a few kilometers from the border with Montenegro.
First visit: the Pond of Mes.
In Albanian: Ura e Mesit, i.e. the "Middle Bridge", is one of the most interesting vestiges of the Ottoman era. Spanning the River Kir, this bridge is 108 meters long, making it one of the longest Ottoman bridges in the region. It was built on the initiative of the local Ottoman governor, Kara Mahmud Bashati, around 1781 to link the Kir valley with the city of Pristina in present-day Kosovo, and is a must-see if you're in the area.
    Visit to Rozafa Castle:
The highlight of our visit to Shkodër was a visit to Rozafa Castle. Despite the long climb to its summit, this is definitely a must-see if you're visiting Shkodër. Although the castle is very much in ruins, the view it affords of the entire region is breathtaking. A place of prestige, we even came across an Albanian TV crew filming footage for a local TV show.
    Second visit: the capital Tirana
With a population of around one million, Tirana is by no means an extraordinary city, but it's one that gives you a good idea of the hustle and bustle that exists in this very young country. Like all good tourists, we parked in the lot below Skanderbeg Square, the heart of the city, home to the Opera House and the National Museum. Of course, everyone will be drawn here by the "I love Tirana", a favorite place to keep a record of one's time in the Albanian capital.
    Detour to Bunk'Art 2:
There aren't many attractions in the city, but one worthwhile stop is Bunk'Art 2, located not far from Skanderbeg Square. This is the second phase of a cultural-historical project aimed at preserving the collective memory of the horrors committed here by the Communist regime.
    Departure for North Macedonia:
After a few days in Albania, it's time to leave this superb Balkan country for another. At the end of the day, we head south-west towards Lake Orhid and the neighbouring country of North Macedonia. Just before crossing the border, we stopped for supper on the shores of Lake Orhid, in Tushemisht, Albania. We then reached our hotel, the Monastery of St. Nahum.
