Greetings Rusty, it's your friend from SITV (we talked at the 80s retro party, I was dressed as Madonna LOL) thank you for your excellent work and information! Praying you stay safe 🙏
We just moved here and live in Moultrie Creek. I was raised in FL, but I haven’t been back home during hurricane season and do not know what to do so I’m so thankful you are covering us in TV. Thank You, Rusty!🙏
Thanks, Rusty. We're coming down to our house Sunday, have family in TV now and keeping an eye on what the storm situation is there now and through the evening. Appreciate your insight and information.
You got this! No reason to be scared. The chances are slim that something is going to happen but nice to think it through before hand. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H

Sooo helpful! Thanks , l am driving up tomorrow with a group of people and tried to cancel , but no one would … one is a life long Floridian , l didn’t want to be the weak link . I am more afraid of , flooding , tornados and high winds . I feel a little better with some knowledge . I also found the Villages News on IG so l keep checking back . Thanks for this video , it was so helpful .
Me too ! We stayed at The Brownwood Hotel and there were 50 rooms there for Duke Energy workers, apparently Duke Energy had a block of 50 rooms in all the hotels , meanwhile our friends who live in TV also live near Asheville… which is a mess , the irony of it all 😱🤦♀️😢
Thanks, Rusty! As a born and bred Floridian, you are supposed to have hurricane parties only for category 1 and 2 hurricanes. Anything higher, and we show respect instead. But, I have to admire a guy who won't let tradition stand in the way of a good beer!
Another thing - those graphs are not how regular Floridians gauge the strength of a hurricane. We look at two things. First, is Jim Cantore in the area? If so, you know it's big. Second, is the nearest Waffle House closed? Waffle House stays open 24/7 through lots of hurricanes. If it's closed, it's bad. If both things happen - we're toast!
The person having it was not a Floridian. I guess new Orleans is a little different...LOL. But they had bourbon...that's their thing. The Waffle house thing is funny...cracked me up. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Hope you are ok and your home didn’t suffer any damages. My daughter and I just purchased a home up in Fenney and will be moving there after the new year. I do hope we cross paths and get to meet you.
I had a lot of friends that were spotters in Texoma (Northern Texas/Southern OK) that worked for various TV and radio stations that all fed information to NOAA. It was my understanding that they don't call a tornado warning until a lowering is 50% or more the way to the ground. Since lowerings are somewhat common, if they called them all it would end up being a person crying wolf and not be taken seriously enough.
We would never call a "lowering" in. That would just be a funnel cloud and reported as such. But you can have changes by not even seeing things. They call them off of the radar. For instance...if you see debris field coming up on the scope. We would constantly have to call wrong calls in from people not trained. So I understand. Each house is different. But for me it would be the laundry room. I have block on two sides and no windows. Generally you want to not be in a big room with windows. Its all basic but center of the house and no windows. Some people say the bathroom in the tub but I've heard both sides of that story. The good thing about these types of tornados that spin out of the hurricane is that they are short lived and not very big...usually. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
So if a Tornado is coming and you're caught out for some reason, you should NOT hide in a golf cart tunnel? But they're the lowest ditch? Is that hurricane specific advice because of flooding? Please clarify. And I'm a longtime subscriber since you started the beginning. So long ago pressed that button. 😊
Anything that is a tunnel is tricky because it accelerates the wind. Yes the problem with the tunnels in The Villages is there can be problems with flooding. But if that is the last place I would think about it. Good thing is most people would let you come into their house around here... Best thing is to stay at home or the place you are at as most of these are short lived and pass through. Also "most" tornadoes are of the weaker variety. But you just have to make that decision and take into consideration all the factors. A tunnel may simple be the option. But like I said...if it is that bad...stay where you are. For the most you can not. But with that said listen to the radio and the apps on you phone. If things seem really bad just go to your safe place or go hang out with a neighbor. Sometimes you can see them because of lightning. But you should be inside most likely. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
