Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

@@user-ge7xq4oj5q. I’m not going to ask why but just say… this organization that still exists today supports many other organizations and provides care for conservation. They are able to care for sick and injured Ellie’s in the wild all over Africa . The law there is ..your not allowed to intervene with sick or injured animals under law. Unless you are a sanctuary or orphanage . Without these organizations and their advocacy these majestic creatures would be extinct by now. As it is it’s still permitted to hunt them. Cost $80,000 but it’s hard to believe that hunting elephants is still legal at all.

If it were not for the internet,I would not have adopted a baby elephant (WEKA) because I didn't know about Sheldrick Trust until 6 months ago when I began watching U Tube videos. Many a time I've been teary and smiling!

Giraffes are loosing all spotlight. They are now worse of than the elephants. There are 100 sanctuaries and orphanages for Ellie’s over giraffes 🦒 😢 both plus rhino need conservation.

What are you thanking them for? You have to consider the long term consequences of what your actions will bring. I know the poor baby is cute and would probably be worth its weight in gold for fundraising and photo ops, however when we disrespect mother nature and her ways there is a price to pay. Look up the elephant cullings in south Africa and you will see the end result. They had to shoot 15',000 elephants due to overpopulation. These are not puppies and kittens but enormous animals that require a lot from their environment. They were destroying entire evo systems for other species. So what happens in 10-20 years when These cute babies are all grown up and you dump to hem in a shrinking habitat,? Can anyone else see the train wreck ??.

I remember meeting your mother in Kenya when I was there in the 60's , alongside my parents who worked in Mombasa and Kisumu.I remember we thought the work of the orphanage was tremendous then. Grateful Angela was born into this and continues the work. 🎉❤ I can hear her mother Daphne in her voice. What a great way to grow up learning from her parents and applying it. ❤
I've been to the Sheldrick elephant orphanage in Nairobi, amazing experience, learned a lot about the individual rescues and the program. The devotion of the caretakers is very impressive. If you are ever in Kenya, the orphanage is a must do stop, but make sure to buy your tickets in advance, if you just show up you most likely won't be able to get in.

Though I am a Indian, I so pleased that orphan elephants are saved by Sheldrick trust, it will increase the population of elephants in Kenya, and they care for the elephants in general, though I had heard of Daphne I hadn't know that Sheldrick trust's operations were so wide spread, may they prosper. What a beautiful video. I am in awe of what David & Daphne started with recreating Sheldrick & having the foresight of how this magnificent place would become & continue to become with the wild animals. Ya'll also go and educate the citizens young & old & help them so that they too can understand what Sheldrick is about. Some of these young people can grow & possibly work for Sheldrick in many different capacities or even become vets. Some could even help or teach villagers how & what to grow & stop the attacking of wildlife
