Some predictions: Tau getting a "Mechanized" detachment, focused on transports and tanks, rather than battlesuits. Tau *also* getting a "Greater Good" detachment that encourages support races alongside the Tau. Orks getting a shooting detachment (All ranged attacks get Sustained 1) Eldar get a Rangers-style detachment, focused on stealthy units. Dark Eldar getting a "Twisted Misters" detachment focused on Hononculi and similar units. Necrons get a "Silver Tide" detachment that makes Warriors playable. Tyrannid getting a more Battleline focused detachment that calls out Warriors in particular, and Termagants behind that, for enhanced shooting. Marines get a drop pod/deep strike focused "Angels descend" detachment. Sisters of Battle get a new Close Combat-focus. Guard get an infantry-spam list. There's more, but those are off the top of my head.
Steve, I totally agree about missing more battle line and basic units. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I kind of miss the old, early 9th Ed detachment restrictions with the Battleline tax
For Dark Angels I hope we get something either plasma focused maybe bringing back Weapons of the Dark Age or a combined Assault detachment that brings back synergy between the Terminator and the Ravenwing bike units.
I’m just saying you can legally take a Battlecompany today! I have a list with 6 tactical squads, 2 jump marines, 2 10 man devastators and dread, 2xrhino a droppod and a captain. Its beautiful and kinda terrible but beautiful
I’m hoping Codex Compliant Marines get a new detachment AND a rework of the existing ones. 1st Company Taskforce is abysmal, and all but like 2 of the others are pretty lackluster. Rather than more junk to clog up the rules, refining what we have into something useful would be great.
Very well said. From a competitive standpoint its hard to really say "my codex has 6 detachments" when so few of them are actually viable in a competitive scene.
As a dedicated chaos knight player I'm sick of wardog spam, I want to bust out my big knights more then just the lancer. I hope we get a detachment that brings the big knights to the field
As a Daemons collector, I'm a bit concerned that 4 mono-God detachments are coming now and not in the codex. I think it's because we won't get a codex and instead get rolled into the chaos factions. The alternative being that we get another 4 detachments in the codex, for a total of 9 usable detachments and that's just absurd.
Ya, but maybe the mono god detachments are just so wild, like you only allowed to play 1/4 of your codex so maybe they are throwing us Daemon players a bone? Other detachments usually give a bonus to things with the keyword, but they never say "you cannot play anything WITHOUT this keyword"... just PLEASE give Be'lakor all the keywords again!!!
Do you think this is a way for them to beta test digital only rules to see if it can increase sales enough that a codex isnt the standard anymore and/or a way to test future detachments ie. Demons specific god detachments
Ya Auto 6 advance is kind of weird when your army has up and down deepstrike 3 times a turn. sort of redundant, besides the Dread knight auto going 6 which makes in insane with its advance shoot and charge rule.
Eldar have this weird thing where GW is unable to balance Eldar properly as history has shown. On one hand they die super quickly as they all are just T3, 1 wound models, on the other hand can you not spam them like Guard where you have no issues when 20 Guardsmen die. At the same time they need to condense a lot of damage into these small, very glass cannon units. This glass cannon behaviour plus the high speed of Eldar makes finding the sweet spot where an Eldar unit is efficient enough to run but not too efficient as to be oppressive. Finding this sweet spot is very difficult. I really hope that they will make Eldar good and playable with the Aspect Warrior Detachment giving us the option to go full ham on Hawks, Spiders and Banshees. PS: Ian, if you don't like the Eldari fate dice, take a look at Sisters. They do the same thing as Eldar but way better and even more efficent. PPS: In honour of Steve I'm going to run an Anvil Siege Force list in two weeks that's primarily Melee Focused + 2 Ancients! Let's see how that goes.
Oh man sisters have it way too good with fate dice, its so annoying when someone just chooses a dice from off the table and they win because of it, rolling dice is such a fun part of the game and choosing a die just takes away from the random fun. ANVIL SIEGE FORCE ya!!! your going to fall back and rob objectives to the max with those ancients!
GW gave us the Anvil detachment and said that was our gravis “focused” detachment. Good night I hope space marines get actual changes in this December update.
I'm hoping for successor's chapter detachment where you can't take special characters or chapter specific units but get some strong enhancements and strats in return. Maybe a build your ow chapter master of some sort too
I made up a list and it ended up with 30: Sisters, Custodes, AdMech, Agents, Guard; Imperial Knights, Khorne Daemons, Slannesh Daemons, Tzeentch Daemons, Nurgle Daemons; Chaos Knights, CSM, Death Guard, Thousand Suns, World Eaters; Aeldari, Drukhari, GSC, Votann, Necrons; Orks, Tau, Tyranids, Space Marines, Black Templars; Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Deathwatch, Grey Knights, Space Wolves. Not sure where Emperors Children would fit in...maybe in place of Agents?
Obviously there's a lot of possibilities of what they could do here. They could have planned this all along and always had a bonus detachment that didn't get published in a codex, at The other extreme they could have just thrown these together last second. The result of which is that we get bonus detachments that are useless because they are thrown together and they didn't want to break the game so they were timid and conservative in their design. Or on the flip side because they were rushed they try to outdo things and these are broken detachments that will be overpowered and have to be nerfed later. The fact that they have promised that they will be tournament legal immediately and forever suggest that they will be weaker versus stronger. On a faction by faction basis, it would be interesting to look through all existing codexes and find a creative avenue that they missed out on that the Christmas detachment could fill in. More obvious on factions that received a small amount of detachments in their books versus those with many like the chaos space Marines. Also then there's the matter of 24 days of detachments and depending on how you count them there's 27-30 detachments? The fact that each demon chaos God will get their own, does this help or hurt the concept that the demons will get separate codexes like the other chaos gods? Or that they will or will not get rolled back into the current God specific factions like world eaters, death guard, etc? It will be interesting, looking forward to it
As a Daemon player I am a bit worried, getting 4 detachments is awesome but I have heard rumors from other channels that the Daemons might be in trouble, though I cant imagine they would be as they sell for both Age Of Sigmar AND 40k, so double the revenue.
And the other thing that we have been throwing around is that daemons get rolled back in with their patron gods: world eaters, death guard, etc, but then this throws off the math for the 30...
11:23 I think the new space marine detachment will be aligned with codex update. Going to make Chapters other than Ultramarines stronger. Maybe something super wild like make your own chapter or boost compliant chapters with their detachments. Where do you get the awesome 80s ultramarine shirt.
Eldar are the ultimate finesse army, and always have been. They reward a skill and punish Lack, for both players and opponents. With Eldar getting battle focus back, it really will reward skill again. I'm curious if it's going to be a return to "jump shoot jump" with a set movement, d6" movement or something related to the movement characteristic (thinking half of the movement value) What I'm really hoping for is that Warlocks go back to being treated as a unit upgrade for the respective squads they attach to, no longer characters. There is no denying that this many detachments coming out in such a short period of time will upset the current balance of the game. Slaanesh daemonettes need 2 things to be viable, make them a proper horde unit by taking a unit of 20 and drop their points by 20 per 10. Orks need some love, they don't need another detachment so much as the detachment rules need to have the unit keywords removed per detachment. Sisters of battle miracle dice need some changes. The most favorite and clean suggestion I've seen is that the substituted values cannot count as an "unmodified dice" for rules reasons, because they are modified. I also like the suggestion of only one free fate dice per battle round, instead of the per player turn. What I had hoped at the beginning of 10th edition for imperial guard is that the command phase would be used as an out of sequence phase per order: for example, "first rank fire, second rank fire" an officer gives a shoot order to a unit of guardsman, who instantly shoot as if it were their shooting phase, and still get a shooting phase when that naturally occurs. "Move, move move" is an extra movement phase, "Fix bayonets" an extra fight phase. To balance this out, each order is received with passing a leadership/morale check, if the check is failed, the unit is battleshocked- right before primaries are scored. I would love if this were the case for the new, rewritten guard codex.
Lots to unpack here, YA 20 blob of daemonettes and a points drop would work perfectly. Orks need the unit keywords spread way farther out for sure, like how are stormboyz NOT speedfreek, if the detachment is speedfreeks just give the army the speedfreek keyword. Sister are the problem with picking a dice and winning the game. it just feels bad. Yes make the dice count as "modified" 100% without a doubt. all chosen dice should count as a modification. As for the guard stuff, I feel this might bog the game down getting out of phase shooting on multiple units. but it would be more fluffy for sure. OOOH battle shocked if the order fails is savage, and might make up for the power it could give you. Lots of great ideas here, You must play often.
@hyperspacehobbies after posting, I had an idea for a blood axes detachment that makes kommandos battleline, gives stormboyz an uppy downy strat, burna boyz get a devastating wounds strat, and tankbustaz get a surge move strat to the closest enemy vehicle Detachment rule (other than kommandoz being battleline) is a 6" scout move for all infantry.
As a Tau player I totally agree with you. I’m very excited for the new detachment but I’m also very wary in the sense that I hope it’s not gonna be something useless. We don’t have a huge range like some of the other factions so I hope it’s something that is fun and playable that brings something new to the table.
All the current Space Marine detachments are based around different chapters, so I have to assume this one will be too. With that being said, I am seriously begging for a Blood Ravens detachment. My whole army is painted for Blood Ravens and I am so ready for it to be here. Something that involves librarians, something that lets me study the weakness of my opponent, etc. I hope Tau do not get an overwatch style of detachment, I remember the old days where they could just shoot you for free constantly I just started an Eldar army! I'm really into wraiths, they kinda suck right now but hoping the codex detachment makes them better, and maybe makes them hit on 3's and not 4's....
I'm personally on the side of hoping these Christmas detachments are a bit more specific. Not to the point of only applying to certain datasheets, but opening a style or theme that doesn't currently exist. My hope is the detachments offer armies with codices, something different that is missing from those books. For example, for Custodes the book was absolutely lackluster with 4 detachments and 3 basically being a slider for how many sisters of silence you want on your list. A detachment specifically focused on deep striking terminators and bikes would go a long way to giving Custodes players something different. My hope for index armies is the new Christmas detachments give another general detachment that tides them over. I still want to look forward to new codices but having a second detachment that offers a little shakeup would be great.
Way back in 2nd ed, it was the Warp Spiders and the Wraithlord that got me to get an Eldar army. As to the 5 man model boxes. First time I got hit with GW price hikes was when the Aspect Warriors went from 5 in a blister to 4. Also talking to the local GW store about how there should be a Warp Spiders Phoenix Lord. But I always got my butt kicked. But I think it’s time to rebuild an Aeldari force
As a thousand sons player i just want a new way to build my army. Avoiding transports/reserves/vehicles to maintain high cabal points is getting boring. Where's my tzaangor detachment i bought my combat patrol to play??
As a tau player I just want a general purpose detatchment that works all game. I don’t care if it’s competitive or not, but all our detatchment buff either half the game, or a subsection of units. detatchment
Eldar always have rules that circumvent normal rules. Unnerfable indirect shooting, becouse it's not indirect; numerous stacking bonuses when normal people only had one or two; movement opportunities that nobody else can have, etc. Someone up there thinks they must always be their special kid.
I want one that makes speed freaks useable. For their base size and what they do, Speed Freaks are just a fun thing to include in fluffy games, which sucks cause they are coolest models in the game.
@hyperspacehobbies Sounds good to me, or at least give it to storm Boyz, trukz, Battle wagons, and Squighog Boyz. I use them all the time for fun, but spending those points on them has cost me games.
Let’s hope these new detachments are fun and enhance the game. And not a lame let down like the redacted codex (imperial agents) hype. they built it up over months and just ended up bunching a load of already released units and one new character model. That bummed me out! 😂
Ya that bummed everyone out, that codex just feels like its missing something...like dreadknights, or a deathwatch redemptor. something that is big and scary.
The faction with the best fight negotiation always feels bad to compete against. No matter what shape a competetion takes the side that can determine the rules of engagement have a large advantage. Eldar have that in 40k. Fire and fade, tons of movement, the yncarne teleport etc. It may not be as OP as many people feel, but it always feels bad when someone can hit you and you cannot hit back.
It makes sense from a narrative perspective that elves would shoot arrows at you and then disappear, giggling, into the woods like fae folk. But in a tabletop game it comes across as them being un-interactive, which is very unsatisfying. And that’s coming from someone whose first and favorite army IS Aeldari. Seeing people get frustrated with me because I can blast their best units with Fire Prisms from across the map, or Fire and Fade a big blob of Windriders behind cover in their deployment zone turn 1 makes me feel like I’m being sweaty, but that’s literally how GW designed my army to work.
@ElGordoBandito I 100% feel your pain. There being limited interaction makes it less fun for everyone. The army is frail enough that you need to use the whole bag of tricks or you get smoked. It is the trouble with balancing fast hard hitting characters no matter the game.
Hoping for a generalised shooty detachment for orks or possibly one revolving around transports. Was supposed to be abstaining from buying myself any more warhammer until after Christmas though, guess GW had other plans xD
ya basic shoota boys have gone to the wayside, though I have played them in the Dread mob 20 man strong with a Mek and the enhancement to press the button twice. its pretty wild I have to say.😆
Not trying to be a jerk, but why? When I think Necrons, at least warriors and stuff, I don’t think “blinding speed and flurries of melee” Necrons are the plodding, durable army that refuses to stay down when knocked down. Literally The Terminator. Advance and charge should be on things like Aeldari or melee berserker armies like World Eaters. Movement is just so jacked in 10th that every faction that doesn’t have it gets booped by the ones that do. Super unbalanced.
Canoptek construct stuff usually phase in and out, so I think it would make narrative sense, but like you said, it's probably not the most balanced thing to give a faction every tool out there. I don't think advancing and charging crons need to become a thing, they already have plenty of good tools to play around with.
I always thought that they should give a bonus oath to the relevant chapter for the space marines codex. Ie ultramarines get a re-roll wounds oath on gladius, imperial fist get it on anvil. Salamanders on firestorm etc. but that’s probably too far and doesn’t help successor chapters. But please. Make terminators great again
So, they're going to add new detachments but not update or tweak current detachments... no offense, but why adding more ways of playing when a lot is already not playable? (I understand for index factions, it makes sense) For codeces, instead of adding, fix or tweak the detachments that are not played or that are always losing! Example 1: fix Anvil Siege Force, remove the 2CP strat to shoot back, replace it with 1 or 2CP, this unit count as remained stationary. Example 2: fix Fellhammer Siege-host. To represent the durability (but not the siege crafting?) of the Iron Warriors, replace Persisting Assaillants (that we don't use, because you need to be half strength to benefit fully) with "something like Immovable object", 1 or 2 CP, your unit is -1 to wound if it's further than 12" of the targeting unit. My little rant...
Your rant is heard, and I agree there are a lot of changes that need to take place for many detachments to make them even close to playable, piling on more Crap might just be more bothersome than helpful.
I just hope the Xmas Detachments are somewhat balanced. I can see a world in which one of these Detachments is turbo broken. I also am not sure if for example Marines need another detachment. Maybe reworking an existing detachment would be more interesting?
When someone who calls himself "Space Marine Steve" is trying to convince you that he will soon rather play 1 new Eldar detachment instead of 6 new Space Marine Detachments 🤭👌😁😏
not exactly a new detachment but i think it'd be nice, and more importantly FUNNY, if they buff 1st Company to include a new keyword named Veteran, give that to all squads with veteran in the name, termies, and also, to be funny, to all ancients. now you can make like any of the tacticus armor squads eligible for the detachment stratagems if you give them a funny 50pt bannerman. would this be a meaningful buff? nah not really lol but would it be silly and also cut down on the textbloat in the stratagem rules if you gave the keyword to dreadnoughts too, though, it could be pretty decent?
The armies still on index love this no matter what

There's more, but those are off the top of my head.

The new Detachments will be playable only starting from January
Don't blame him, one of that Eldar lool like an Ultramarines Sergeant
Steve sees someone in a blue futuristic space suit, and he is ALL in.
I hope half the detachments that come out are competitively viable.I think that would be cool!
The problem with eldar has always been they are tricksy elves

Ya Auto 6 advance is kind of weird when your army has up and down deepstrike 3 times a turn. sort of redundant, besides the Dread knight auto going 6 which makes in insane with its advance shoot and charge rule.

I wonder if we get a Gravis armor themed detachment. Maybe something to make marines feel a bit tougher
GW gave us the Anvil detachment and said that was our gravis “focused” detachment. Good night I hope space marines get actual changes in this December update.
That was always more of "heavy" keyword Detachment to me, but I guess that makes kinda sense.

Imperial Knights, Khorne Daemons, Slannesh Daemons, Tzeentch Daemons, Nurgle Daemons;
Chaos Knights, CSM, Death Guard, Thousand Suns, World Eaters;

We don’t have a huge range like some of the other factions so I hope it’s something that is fun and playable that brings something new to the table.
I’m hoping for a stealth detachment. They had them in the past.
Agreed. One of the coolest things they could do would be to take the 7th Ed cadres and use them to base detachments on.
Ya Tau need something big time!
@@nomassgoer8350 Kauyon is kind of the stealth detachment now, so I doubt it. But I would love to see one too!
How do you know Daemons are going to be 4?
It was said in the warhammer preview. 4 Mono God detachments, It also lines up with there release schedule
MY DEATHWATCH ARE COMING BACK
Heck yeah! More Deathwatch time!
I’m here for the shirt fueds
Sooo.... you like Steves best?
I'm getting Custodes as a second army so don't feel bad Steve
Everyone say it with me..... the eldar codex will be busted!
I hope Tau do not get an overwatch style of detachment, I remember the old days where they could just shoot you for free constantly
I just started an Eldar army! I'm really into wraiths, they kinda suck right now but hoping the codex detachment makes them better, and maybe makes them hit on 3's and not 4's....
I hope the space marine one is first LOL
The Primaris Lieutenant detachment. Officer Candidacy School, LOL!!
@@philedwards7331 OMG could you imagine, It would be such a joke!
Now is the perfect time, and 10th edition is a really good game.
As a thousand sons player i just want a new way to build my army. Avoiding transports/reserves/vehicles to maintain high cabal points is getting boring. Where's my tzaangor detachment i bought my combat patrol to play??
ya they are totally stuck on 1 playstyle, not great. hopefully this will add something new.
Kamikaze Orks, everything gets deadly demise and careen!
Just give the keyword to the army when you take the detachment!
Slaanesh will now see you in your dreams.... Tau, IG, and Space marines need new detachments before Daemons only detachment... /tisk /tisk
Yo where’s the space wolves tshrit?!
Every show? its going to start to smell! (more than it already does)
@ just like a space wolf 🙌🏽
@Bumbaclart247 damn... he's right.
Also I want a Scion detachment
I’m excited, but I’ve had Eldar for a long time. They were my second army after Tyranids.
@@hyperspacehobbies Yeah you're right, I just forget to roll my button pushes all the time and want something lazy ha!
@Nocturnalcookie Tell me about it! I always forget at least half the time!
They need to rework the ones they have
Yeah, could be more unusable detachments. Or maybe these ones ARE the reworked detachments?
@ need to redo anvil
Put out more content guys!!!
We try to get it out every week! Thanks!
How dare you insult the kroot. I’m so offended. That said, yeah they kinda suck. But I’m still going to try anyway haha
I just want the ability for the necrons to advance and charge. We can't do it in any detachment or with any strategy
Not trying to be a jerk, but why? When I think Necrons, at least warriors and stuff, I don’t think “blinding speed and flurries of melee”
Necrons are the plodding, durable army that refuses to stay down when knocked down.
❤️🤘🔥👍
So, they're going to add new detachments but not update or tweak current detachments... no offense, but why adding more ways of playing when a lot is already not playable? (I understand for index factions, it makes sense)
For codeces, instead of adding, fix or tweak the detachments that are not played or that are always losing!
Tau detachment needs to affect kroot, tau, and vespid all.
I just hope the Xmas Detachments are somewhat balanced. I can see a world in which one of these Detachments is turbo broken.
I also am not sure if for example Marines need another detachment. Maybe reworking an existing detachment would be more interesting?
All the space marine detachments need a rework. Some need less than others but all need changes.
ya probably, BUT they will do a balance update pretty quick into the new year I assume and correct some of these things.
When someone who calls himself "Space Marine Steve" is trying to convince you that he will soon rather play 1 new Eldar detachment instead of 6 new Space Marine Detachments 🤭👌😁😏
HAHAHA Steve will NEVER abandon the Space Marines!
Yea, it was definitely a joke lol
I'm not going anywhere
Space Elf Steve!?!?
Free detachments, from GW? I'm certain they will be joke detachments that maybe christmas themed.
not exactly a new detachment but i think it'd be nice, and more importantly FUNNY, if they buff 1st Company to include a new keyword named Veteran, give that to all squads with veteran in the name, termies, and also, to be funny, to all ancients. now you can make like any of the tacticus armor squads eligible for the detachment stratagems if you give them a funny 50pt bannerman.
would this be a meaningful buff? nah not really lol
but would it be silly and also cut down on the textbloat in the stratagem rules
if you gave the keyword to dreadnoughts too, though, it could be pretty decent?
You get what you paid for, so I don’t get my expectations too high.
Specially with GW
First!
It's not Eldar... it's people who PLAY Eldar
