Jake, I have to say that your channel is really one of the most informative, organized, easy to use and well produced collection of guitar instruction videos anywhere, on TH-cam or elsewhere.
I’m surprised Jake doesn’t teach at the most prestigious music universities... wait w minute, actually I’m not. Those universities don’t deserve him hahaha he’s too good. And the fact that he makes it so quick and it’s free Is incredible
As a musician of 37 years (Got my first guitar at the age of 13) I can tell you from watching countless channels on youtube, You have a way and a flow of teaching that is bar none one of the if not the best channel for learning beginning and intermediate music theory from a guitarists perspective. I love the channel and content. Keep on Rockin' my friend...
Ever since I started watching your channel, Ive realised my mistake for not taking music theory seriously for years. Thank you Jake. Love from India. You are the best. 😊😊
As somebody with no formal music theory education at all, I have to tip my hat at your ability to convey this knowledge in a way that is accessible and easy to understand.
This is brilliant. This video is brilliant, omg, I can't stress this enough... I, as a hobby musician without formal prior education, found so many answers and new links between topics with this video. This material is gold, I've watched this a couple of times already, and even the way you shed light on these solutions is satisfying to watch and listen to. Thank you so much for these videos, you explain topics in a wonderfully clear way! I dare to say that you are one of the best music teachers on TH-cam, and definitely >the< best music theory teacher for guitarists.
jake you have very good lesson in all of your videos and this one was very helpful for me . thank you very much you have cleared my confusion about picking up notes on a chord proggession. thank you 😊😊🙏🙏🙏sir
If there is any channel on TH-cam that really provides good music ideas then it's your channel. I'm proud to be your subscriber, sooner I'll be a patreon too. Keep the good work Jake sir.
I like his teaching style... on point and gets to the meat as soon as possible without fuss. Unlike other tutorials that spend 7 min explaining what major scale is in a 10 min tutorial that is supposed to teach something cool lol.
Jake really is the proof that great player doesn't necessarily mean great teacher. The ideas, concepts he gives out and in turn teaches, and that too freely to us ametures, really hats off man. So complex concepts but so easily explained practically! Any adjective would be an understatement!!!
When you got to the chromatic descent near the end, I heard Knopfler winding out in Telegraph Road as clear as a bell. What a delight to be studying theory (at your feet) and then have the epiphany that one of my favourite songs used a specific technique at a specific point. And now I can do the same in my own compositions. As always, thank you, Maestro.
That descending arpeggio really made sense to me in terms of something I have heard countless times in solos but never really knew the mechanics of it. It finally made sense thanks to you simple explanation!! Thanks
I really don't understand why you don't have a lot more subscribers! Been subscribed a long time, and it's incredible how you are able to explain music theory in such a comprehensive way! So thank you, I learn alot from your channel!
As much as my life has been eaten up by my TH-cam addiction-- I will always be sure to watch Jake's videos. Plenty of new ideas and great consolidations of disparate old knowledge. Keeping it all circulating and fresh, the thought process practically applied with the healthy theory roughage.
I love how you explain things , like a lot of people i learned the pentatonic scales first and noticed i could add a couple notes to those pentatonic shapes and id get the major and minor scales and modes ,and youre the first person to explain it like that . you dont have to leave the pentatonic patterns you just add notes to them...i hope you gave a video on modes !
This is the best Channel for (non boring) Music Theory for me out there on TH-cam. And this episode is no exception. You don't have be a Guitar-player to benefit from your Videos. I am a Keyboardplayer and i learned so many things about Modes and Harmonies thru your Videos All Videos are so well structured that you just can't get it wrong. Simply great. Thank you Jake, for all the effort you put into your videos.
I keep forgetting how much I love your lessons and the way you break down your theory in a clear but also very detailed way. You really are an amazing teacher and I have to watch more of your stuff. Thanks man 👌
I have watched a lot of TH-cam instructional guitar videos from a plethora of TH-camrs. I have subscribed to a number of them as well, but you, you teach, then you give actual examples that are extremely useful. And you do all of this in plain language that can be easily understood. You, my new friend, are awesome! 🎸
Some very simple but very powerful ways of analyzing a chord progression. I've always done all these things instinctively, but seeing you put them in words, it makes a whole lot more sense. I feel much more confident while making a melody over a chord progression, now that I've seen this video. I am a big fan brother. Always love your videos. I've yet to see something from you that doesn't teach me something new. GOD bless you and please keep those videos coming. :)
Dude 4 real, you're providing the very best educational content for guitar i've seen so far. I love the way how you craft things from the very beginning in your videos and explain everything in such a general manner! Logical, general and well explaned, just perfect. Infinite amounts of honor
Fantastic lesson. I had intuited some of this myself, but it is very useful to hear you put everything together in a systematic and well-organized music theory framework. Your channel is on my top five list.
Another outstanding lesson - You are a great teacher sir! Everything is easy and accessible and logical. Yet you don‘t oversimplify and you don‘t ramble - well done! The recorded tracks sounded excellent too.
Pentatonic minor works Great over Major Chords of the Same Root This Old Man Knows a Thing or Two But I've learned so much more from You !! Thank you Jake Lizzio
Dude your channel has been a revelation for my guitar theory. I realised while watching this that I've already been doing some of the modal interchange stuff over certain chord progressions, but didn't know the theory behind it to really expand and build upon those ideas as you did in this video. Fantastic stuff, one of the best music education channels on this site. Keep it up!
Like, what everyone else is saying, to the point and I understand the way you put things. I'm learning more with your channel than ever before and I've been at this for a while. Thanks for being awesome at teaching!
Meaty content, my favourite key, full explanation, and not least - accompanying on point graphics that many u tube instructors fail to provide - in short - WELL DONE and worthy of support with my thin wallet.
I think you have the best guitar channel on TH-cam. You explain things in a way that is really easy to understand, but you don't shy away from it the theory. It really supplements the lessons I'm taking with my local instructor. I've just become a patreon subscriber.
You can also see it as in D min/FMaj ... to borrowing chords from D melodic min E dorian b2 G mix #4 A mix b6....C Mix or C mix b2 or in D Major/B min....the C Maj the n6 or in G Maj/E min...the A Maj is the mix ( lydian dominant) But I know other scales..and have the DOMINANT Pentatonic under my fingers....but I play with passing or OPTION notes 1...x...2....x....3............5.............b7...x....R The tritone is always option to me. MAjor penta over G......A......and C ( as a guide) if I use the C as the n6..it's just be lydian to Lydian #2 Lydian #6 lydian #2, #6 Lyd #5, b7 Ion #5, b7 or some other modes with enharmonic ( b3, and maj3) Mix #2 Mix #2, #4 phy b4 loc b4 or from E Min... to E Harmonic min b5...AND E melodic min b5 ( full dim W/H) A dorian b2, #4 AND A lydian dominant b2 ( full dim H/W) There;s all kind of other stuff i can do...if i play with my coloring kit when I paint music.lol
Another great, well-rounded tutorial with intriguing possibilities; comprehensive enough, yet leaving the inquiring musician with motivation for self discovery!
This channel is very informative and inspirational, and overall attitude is quite positive and friendly. So I find the whole material as a great encouragement to start making one's own music. This is not a small accomplishment. Thanks
This is an excellent lesson. Watching your channel, things I’ve never quite understood about music theory make total sense now, and you seem to have an endless supply of tricks/techniques as well as the ability to explain why they sound good.
Jake i learn alot from you .. please make more vedios about how ro solo .. how to make musical phrase .. your style is very cool and i like it alot .. Thnx alot man ..
Mind blowing, Jake!! Absolutely amazing job!! Long time viewer here, it's incredible how you consistently put out the most informative and fun videos on guitar playing and even music in general, for that matter. Keep up the great work. Greetings from India!

It's like duct tape or super glue. It fixes just about everything.
There r other possibilities, even if u can’t see them

Pianist here. You are by far one of the best teachers I've found on the tube. Thank you for doing these.
Boy, his lessons are always a treat! Whenever he uploads anything, I almost always apply it immediately to something I'm doing.
Holy shit, this video is a wealth of knowledge for lead players.
1:33 you know a solo is gonna be fire when it starts like that
Also that Dorian pentatonic and the very specific one in E,was used in a Radiohead song,I think lucky

I just can't believe how I never thought of method #4. Such a simple thought, such a bright, kinda sour sound, softened up by that C chord.
