One of the clearest explanations of modes in the Circle of Fifths. As a beginner, I really appreciate this.
There are several channels that try to explain things but they expect a higher understanding of music theory or technical ability. That is a real art. Merci beaucoup.

This is a text-book video for any TEACHER that wants to learn how to teach.
People who can explain the theory are a dime a dozen, but someone who can cook it down to something that also visually interesting and simple to follow - is rare to come across.

this was by far the best explanation of the circle of 5ths i've heard, prior to this I had a vague sense of relatedness between chords but didn't really understand the underlying mechanics of that.

Great lesson...love the "palette" analogy! Love the Pachelbel Progression..I m practicing it in all keys on the piano..If Pachelbel only knew how famous he became! He died in 1706...the year Benj. Franklin was born!

I've loved the Circle of Fifths for decades.. and your videos have been more than helpful in helping me to (re-)discover the uses for it.
I'm glad you explained why you used the A Major chord in the Aeolian mode version of the 'Pachelbel' progression. as I *did* expect the A Minor there.
...but looking at the modes through 'the circle' is something I hadn't thought about for building progressions. Most helpful. Fanx! for posting :)

Well done Mike, Took classical lessons as a kid and never delved big into the theory of the circle of fifths, just understood it as the trip up through the sharps and down through the flats. This tutorial makes it so easy to understand their relationships for song writing, or be able to listen to any song and recognizing the different modes or progressions used. Very cool.

This is a great video. I almost didn't click it because piano is my main instrument, but glad I did because I've played and composed for almost 2 decades and have tried to understand and embrace the CoF many times but have never understood it's purpose or had the confidence to use it properly until now. Something about the way you explain it just finally clicked for me, I feel like a light came on and a door opened. I'm so excited to get home and sit at my piano now. Thank you so much, and I'm definitely subscribing now.

I've never played keys in my life and only took a brief, single semester guitar class in high school, which I failed. After a few videos and several hours just banging around on my midi controller, I feel like I am able to actually play. I even found a few basic progressions to existing songs just by listening for them and knowing now what chords look like and how they interact. Thank you for this video

Watching your vidao channel is a great pleasure. Somehow every thing made sense to me when I watched your video a couple of times. I like and appriate your method of tutoral teaching. A fabulous discussion! Very well done. I am a neurologist. I'm interested in how we, as individuals, "relate" to different kinds of music and different chord progressions. I'm on the hunt to figure out what this is telling us about who we "are" individually. For example, one of my interests is in how the whole education system can be morphed to encourage learning better and to produce more engagement with what is learned. Buried in our brains are not just ideas, but neurobiological truths about why we are as we are - individually. It seems to me that we can do more to understand why each of us likes what we like. That could help education to be more effective for individuals. I think music can provide some of these neurobiological insights - deeper and beyond "I like it". Or, at least this is my hypothesis. So, anyway, again thanks!

You js helped me learn how to write a song, I needed to learn how to write a melody n what chords I’m on a learn I’ve always been stuck when it came to figuring out chords bc I’ve never knew about the circle of fifths until today which is really helpful you explain this so well and now I can song write for my school band n I could now understand my guitar more rather than just knowing “oh it js sounds write bc it music I mean idk how to make it myself all I know is that it sounds like music” but now I can make sense of it and have more creative liberties when it comes to understanding how to do that (new sub btw)
