Writing this as I pause the vid at 1 minute in. I bought the ZV1 on your thoughts and love it, actually mainly used for my "live" streams and all my TH-cam studio footage. Bought the Pocket 3 2 months back, my "go to" outdoor cam. Love it, the colour, ease and stability. Took it to New York recently and was genuinely blown away. Right, lets watch the rest and comment after I have heard your thoughts.
Good choice my friend. I too replaced the ZV1 with OP3, and I am fully satisfied! This camera really makes me want to go out and shoot a lot of video, and the discretion with which it allows to do that, it's magnificent
In my opinion, the ZV-1 (also the RX 100 VII for that matter) are a perfect complement to the Pocket 3. The Pocket 3 is perfect for VLOGing or moving type filming, but the Sonys have nice zoom lenses that provide many more interesting possibilities when filming, staying lightweight and compact. A ZV1 or RX 100 VII and Pocket 3 Combo is probably the most compact, high quality and comprehensive travel combo possible today.
Well put...I think for stationary shots with less to not movement then the Sony ZV1 still is better but for moving/walking shots - the Sony Pocket 3 (even Pocket 2) is the perfect combo!
Video begins 7mins in but thanks for the great level of detail and comparison and also a farewell to zv-1 which I recall coming to your channel for even those that will still serve.
Yes, I knew it was a long introduction but I had to set the stage before we jumped into the meet. Still keeping the Zv1. It’s a great camera just not in my camera bag when I can fit the Osmo Pocket 3
I have been bringing the zv1m2 and the pocket 3 with my on all my vlog shoots and I find myself using only the pocket 3 most of the time! It’s winning for me too!
For my kit and needs the 1" quality from either is perfectly usable. ZV-1 zoom range and UX is appreciated and I'd prefer wireless mic and (small) gimbal on the side to be used for other devices and cameras as well. OP3 is a better USB webcam at 1080 vs 720, not sure that matters for non fullscreen headshots for streaming or calls though. Your ZV-1 S-Cinetone looks promising, thanks for sharing that and all the other ZV knowledge, it's been super helpful.
IMHO video quality is generally overrated, even for pro broadcasts. Content is king, good audio always helps, but the baseline to attract views is human, not technical. Smooth stabilized OP3 (and drone) footage may be a game changer for some journalism though. Probably for some YT spaces as well where the tech threshold seems to require above average skills. I'm very excited to see what that may enable and how other manufacturers try to beat DJI.
Spot on!! In this day and age the race isn’t necessarily about sharpness/image quality for story telling anymore. Equipment wise, convenience goes a long way. Not to say there isn’t a space for producing the best image quality content but on social media you often see people producing insanely good content with old VHS cameras, phones or whatever they can get their hands on, as it creates a more human/home video aesthetic.
Wow amazing comparison. I bought zv1 on your recommendation its an amazing camera . However, stabilisation is more important for us which is not good in zv1 . Im.also thinking to replace zv1 what you suggest me?
Your link leads to the Sony ZV-1F instead of the original ZV-1. I'm not sure how significant the difference is, but I think 1F doesn't have ND filter or timecode at the least.
Osmo and Sony have excellent cameras. But they don't argue with each other. They are different and for different situations. They complement each other. Of course Sony gives the best picture. But the Osmo is a more versatile camera.
@@thefilmalliance There is no OSMO yet, but I plan to buy it. But there are many others. Large cameras are inconvenient to carry, especially when traveling and especially in the mountains.
The Pocket 3 is solid. I just uploaded a video where I only used the OP3. I cropped in like crazy and still got decent footage. . . word of warning, DO NOT forget to lock your AWB, like me. . .
@@thefilmalliance Should be common sense if you shoot video a lot, but easy to look past if you get in a hurry. The OP3 seems to have a really dramatic auto white balance shift, more than I've seen from other cameras I've used. Makes it harder to hide the mistake later on.
Thanks very much for your unbiased and very complete review. I just started to watch your contents. Its really great and helpful. Can you suggest me between these two. I am from India and Osmo Pocket 3 is close to 600 usd here and Sony ZV-1 is only 420 usd. The Sony ZV-1 produces more realistic colours in my opinion but it definitely needs a gimbal if people plan on shooting moving videos. One thing to note as well as the Pocket 3 blurs out the background when shooting someone face on whereas the ZV-1 does not. I personally like the background blur but it's not for everyone.
Sony A6x00, ZV-E10 or Olympus/Panasonic MFT bodies (with IBIS and/or OIS) like OM-5, GX9, G100 does all the video I need for personal and volunteer reels with a vast range of affordable (MFT) optics plus fun, cheap adapted MF if you want (built in 5x mist :) ). A good weather resistant MFT kit like the EM-1 II and a 12-40 f2.8 is about €1000 used. But they're not point and shoot pocketable everywhere anytime like these two and all have other cons to weigh up.
Thats hard to say. It depends on what you’re using them for. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for you Have you taken it yet?
Your ZV-1 audio test sounds likes someone used the noise reduction in post and the cranked it too high … my zv1 sound nothing like that. What happened ?
The only hold back for me is how wide the lens is on the osmo. I own 2 zv1 and a zve10 that I use for streaming setups for clients and an fx30 and a ronin RS3 gimbal for more professional shots. The pocket 3 is intriguing to me for very specific scenarios, such as very long crane shots or drone like footage (FX30 + Ronin has its limits because of the weight when you extend the boom pole beyond 6'2/6'5), but I'm thinking that probably the new insta360 x4 would integrate better for those very specialized shots.
*The Pocket 3 clearly has a superior image, however, as one who also owns and uses the OP3 almost every day, the ZV-1 has a less distorted image. Wonder if the updated version be the Sony ZV12M2 been a comparison?
That’s a great idea. I should try to rent one and do that comparison.
they should simply giva ya the camera without renting @@thefilmalliance
DJi mic 2 alone makes the creator combo worth it
Very true. What a great mic. And 32 bit float is the icing
You got me into getting ZV1 in 2022 but haven't mastered it yet - not even close to it. I got some additional equipment and not planning to change it as I find the footage really great. However, I'm devastated that you're giving up on ZV1😢...I must unsubscribe😅...not
Haha you had me. I'm still keeping it but it won't live in my camera bag. Thanks for sticking around
Ricoh GR 111
This is my kind of budget lol. Sadly broke my ulanzi wide angel at the gym but the ZV1 is a beast. Edit everything on my pixel fold, watched your video about the perfect profile and color grading has been easy AF with Luna fusion
You did client shoots with a zv1?
Yes I did. We all have to start somewhere and at the time I wished I had a bigger, better camera, but it got me to where I am today.
@@thefilmalliance no hate. I’m impressed you could make it happen. Says a lot about your skills that you could do client work with a body like that.
Check the first shot of video at 0:06. Thats the ZV-1 to the right for a client headshot. Thanks for the compliment
I dont belive u did client work with zv1 or pocket..maybe products but that's max period

The Sony does not have a fixed lens, it's a 2.7X zoom lens.
Fixed lens that zooms
Excellent! TLDR, I got the zv-E1
Nice. That’s a great camera. Just like my A7S three.
No zoom, no deal.
Zv1?
@@thefilmalliance Yep 👍😁
