One thing worth noting is that if you're interested in building this rig, test out the phone connection as a monitor first because I know a lot of people have problems with connections and frame drops. I am go glad I found your videos a while back. You are the reason I got a ZVE10 to move into video and build a rig. If I added the Portkeys Monitor, what cables do i need to connect with the camera and battery pack?
Nice rig. Will get the amateur to start thinking like a pro. One way to make a client think your cheap setup is an expensive camera with all those parts attached. Excellent video, really enjoyed it.
Monitor+ can work via hdmi. Camera -> hdmi cable -> cheap usb hdmi capture device (looks like flash stick, and 1080p enough) -> usb a to c otg cable -> smartphone. This setup doesn't lag instead of sony app via wi-fi.
i have the Portkeys PT5ii. do not get it if you plan to use it outside! do not get it if you expect a responsive UI. Its cheap, its basic, it gets the job done most of the time but its not a great monitor by any streach of imagination. if you can afford it Viltrox DC-550 sounds much better on paper and its the one i want to try next
Can shave a few dollars using the Neewer Mini Matte Box. As of posting this comment, available on amazon for ~$47. I just bought it so can answer any questions about it in a few days. Supposedly one can use circular filters with it (hoping my freewell VND will worik). Can also stack 2 standard 4x5.65 filters if you are considering growth and adding to your rig later.
This looks almost exactly how my ZVE10 rig looks! I do have a Viltrox DC-550 monitor but I also use the image app when I need a secondary screen. I love people’s reactions when they see my rig lol it adds to my excitement of building rigs😅
This is exactly the video I needed. I’ve been racking my brain for week on a ZV-e10 rig that would require a Vmount. Appreciate this video. I plan on doing this exact setup with a Helios 44-2.

So the EV10 does not have image stabilization built in. So this camera./ rig will always have to be on a tripod or monopod. So I get why it's called a cinema rig because it will most likely be controlled filming like cinema. I also see now why some may say this is over kill.
Almost all actual cinema cameras don’t have image stabilization. That’s where the rig comes in, the weight acts as a stabilizer in a sense, makes for much nicer hand held footage. The main problem with the zve10 handheld isn’t the shakiness, it’s that the rolling shutter can be a bit of a problem of you’re doing fast paced movement
@@thomasjmcclure Alright, now that I have looked up what a rolling shutter is... I don't think that will be a problem for the type of content I am trying to make. (Interview/ B roll based for business clients). I will invest in this cheaper rig setup and see if that helps with my shaky handheld video. I have a mono pod and the DJI ronni mini 3 gimbal. The gimbal is hard to use effectively at this stage. Maybe I will double up with the rig and mono pod if I still have issues. Or is that over kill? The B roll is coming out shaky. Thanks!
Im curious, i have a basic tripod mount and a pretty basic tripod, wouldnt it mean i’d need a new tripod to use that tripod mount to attach the battery?
Can these fit the same on a 6400? How much does it weigh overall? I want to customize mine, with a 20mm lens. I am looking to get a gimbal as well. What would you recommend ?
just find dummy battery for your specific camera or if your camera does support AC power in via on camera usb port that is even better. For the dummy battery just get the ones that can either be plugged in thru the D-tap or usb port on the battery plate. As for direct AC power in, make sure to get PD cable if your camera have usb c and does support PD input
