    Your channel is BEYOND inspiring. I just turned 61, and plan to retire at 65. When I tell you I have made what you’ve done with this move a HUGE possibility I really mean it. I’ve made a playlist of your France vids to keep me focused. Thank you for the inspiration.

      Great video of your nice apt! It has all you need- Earlier video I think you shared you lived on $4500. mostly; if ok to mention? I imagine rentals are costly, etc. Here near Boston rents are out of control- 🌏☮️

    Bonjour Janice, I’m Sally from the U.K. 😃
    How are you today and the furry ones?
    I just found your vlog! I’m so happy I did! 🥰
    I love France, although I’ve not visited for many years now due to health limitations.
    I have happy memories of caravan holidays with my late parents when I was young.
    In particular I vividly recall a winter trip where we decided to drive with the caravan all the way from U.K., by ferry (no tunnel then) and visit as many places as we could, driving up and over the Pyrenees and down through Spain.
    My most vivid memory was staying in a caravan site in the Forrest in Fontainebleau. There was a lot of history in that area about the WW1/2 which was my Dad’s passion. I remember the trees blowing wildly in a storm and being a little scared of using the facilities as it was out of season and we were the only ones staying that night! But the visual memory remains with me to this day.
    I learned French at school but only until I was 15, but I still try and remember it now. I keep putting off doing an online conversational beginners course inn French. Apparently Babble (?) is a very good one, check it out, you can just do short bite size learning periods when it suits you. I must quit procrastinating and just do it!! I’m very limited to what I can do. One funny story was that I bravely went into a shop in my own to buy some bread in French, I was 10, she gave me a small onion I think and I was so embarrassed that I ran out and my Dad had to buy it but the lady came out to try and help me with my pronunciation! Happy days! The people staying in some of the caravan parks were some of the most friendly! I played with the kids, we didn’t speak the same language but play joined us together. I found a pen pal called Anique LaFleur , we lost touch but I can still remember her. The French invited us to eat with them, it was a lovely time. It’s the one place I’d live or visitnow if I were more able.
    I have binge watched so many of your vlogs from the beginning and am thoroughly enjoying them!! Thank you so much for sharing your life in France with us!!
    Something you said in an earlier video about how so many of us rush through our lives!! Eating fast, living fast and never just stopping for a while to be present in the moment.
    I like the life style in France and despite not living there we could all take a leaf out of their book and be more mindful in all that we do.
    I also have anxiety and was diagnosed with Panic Disorder which is a very scary and exhausting experience. I take meds. I’ve had therapy and read a lot to try and help myself.
    I think moving from the States and following your dream to live in France is really something and you should be very proud!
    You have planned it very well and it’s so fascinating/informative to hear how you did it and all the considerations you had to include! Well done you!!
    Your French flat/apartment is perfect isn’t it, for your needs. I do like the gardens outside, very handy!
    There are so many things I thought I’m about to comment upon as I was flying through your vlogs, I can’t recall them all right now 😄. What a relief I can hear you say!! Is she writing an essay here!!!
    Like you I only have one daughter, I only moved an hour drive away and hardly see here liner than for birthdays/Christmas. She’s always so busy.
    Oh and I love and admire your dress style, your hair and makeup!! You’re a very stunning and sophisticated woman who does not look or act your age!! Quite right too!!!
    I do feel rather envious of your purpose and vision and to follow through with a plan to move to another country. I don’t have that choice, but listening to you made me very aware of how I didn’t go ahead and do the things I wanted to in life due to fear, excuses, people pleasing - a huge problem of mine over the years. Regret isn’t a healthy thing but what I’ve taken away from your vlogs is, that no matter how small a thing that I am able to do eg on a better day I can sit in my little garden with a drink and just look around. Try doing some art or poetry both of which I used to do a lot of.
    Food for thought! So thank you for that!
    I shall be avidly following you from now on, about to watch the next vlog! Yes, I know, it’s 03.25 am in the U.K. but who cares?! 😄
    Wishing you all the best for your adventures in France.
    Would taking us metaphorically speaking that is, into Versailles be doable? I love history, so wherever you go I’ll be happy? I’d love to see the food you eat out, or in, any French meals you have. Visits to Paris, other towns or just around Fontainebleau would be so lovely!
    Bonsoir Janice et Bonjour!! 🍹💐🥰🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

    Thank you for the tour! It feels very French and homey! I had windows like yours when my husband and I lived in Nuremberg, Germany. My stove, oven and refrigerator/freezer were even smaller than yours. Of course it was in 1966 and 1968. I loved living abroad so much. We have returned at least 5 times visiting Paris several times and many other cities and counties. I love traveling so very much! I am enjoying your journey with you. Thank you for taking us along!

    Hi Janice! Greetings from Canada! It might be fun for your subscribers if you had an Amazon wishlist for items that are maybe a bit outside the budget. It's something I've done in the past for other content creators to show my appreciation in some small way. And some of us just love buying presents and bringing joy :)
    I haven't been to France in years but lived there at one point. Your videos bring it all back for me! Next year I will be taking my friend to Paris for her 60th birthday and I'm really excited to see how things have both changed and stayed the same.

    • @JaniceInFrance
      @JaniceInFrance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well first of all Chris thank you so very much. I’ve never heard of making an Amazon wish list for items that might be outside my budget I do appreciate that. I would never ask anyone to do that there’s so many people trying to make it day by day I would never ask anyone to spend money on me. I do have what Hannah told me about is a place where you can donate money if you want to a patreon slot. The only thing with not living on a great big budget and living on a shoestring budget people are going to have to see me in clothes the same clothes all the time LOL. You are so sweet Chris honestly. Thank you for watching my videos and supporting me

    Just a tip, as soon as the tray of ice cubes are frozen, i tip them out into a zip lock bag, then refill, then straight away, tip out to add to the zip lock bag, then a second zip lock bag, that way you have an abundance of ice cube's for everything, guest's, smoothies,, drink's, and only need to buy one tray, and you won't run out of ice cube's 😊❤

    Hi Janice - I just found your channel & it's fabulous! Congrats on your rapid TH-cam growth!! I've been watching several of your videos and this is the first comment I've made - and I was only inspired to because you mentioned Buster's trachea issue. I've lost two dogs to the same (after many wonderful years) my Pug & Teacup Yorkie. Someone might have mentioned using a harness type of collar so nothing presses against his neck, and that tends to be more comfortable for them. I thought I'd mention it just in case. It's a terrible unfair condition, especially when they are healthy otherwise. I wish you & your fur babies much love & health - thank you for sharing your journey!

      No Karen I’ll just tell you it’s OK. Right now we are in the midst of not spring we’re still trying to get out of winter here. We had snow on Friday and it’s been cold and dreary and wet since then. In 2018 when I came to visit France because I looked at various areas that I might want to live in and that’s when I found fountainbleau I had a friend of a friend of a friend that I met and she told me to contact this woman and I came into the apartment and it wasn’t what I wanted and to be very honest things didn’t happen the way I wanted them to so I didn’t get to move and this time I just contacted her and said hey do you have that apartment still available and she said yes and so it’s perfect for me right now

    Love your videos and the apartment tour. I moved to France from the UK five years ago when I retired and it's the best decision I ever made.
    A couple of points: exposed pipes are certainly not the norm in any French home built or renovated in the past several decades. My guess is that the owner upgraded the property at some point but didn't want to spend the money on sinking the pipes into the walls. I don't know anyone with exposed pipework.
    The regulations for plumbing and electrics in France are among the most stringent in the world, but exposed pipes are really a cosmetic issue and I doubt that the regs cover this.
    On electricity, the issue is voltage, not wattage. Europe operates on 230 volts against 120 in the US. If you plug a US food processor into a French socket, it could well explode. Electronic gizmos like computers and phone chargers usually work on either voltage. The label will state this.
    Welcome to France, Janice. You're making the most of an amazing adventure.

      @JaniceInFrance  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well personally, I can’t wait for you to see my other update on my apartment because I think I have changed it twice since that video and the latest is the most awesome that I’ve done. I love the exposed pipes and you’re probably right they didn’t want to take the time or money, but since this is a rental property, they probably don’t care lol this building was built in 1952 so it’s as old as I am

    You can buy flat sheets (drap plat) but admittedly not as commonplace as fitted (drap housse). I use a flat sheet under my duvet, really convenient for temperature control during the night, and you don't need to wash the duvet cover as frequently. A fitted sheet should fit snugly round the corners of the mattress (reason why they're elasticated) so not sure why yours is hanging down. I find bed linen quite expensive compared to the UK but I admit I'm not fussed about thread counts or even 100% cotton, so budget linen in IKEA or hypermarkets like ELeclerc, Carrefour etc suit me fine, even GiFi or Primark.

    • @JaniceInFrance
      @JaniceInFrance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I’m not quite too fussy either because when I wash it I put it in you know the softener but this is what came with my apartment and this is what I’m keeping for the time being. What I find very confusing or the square pillows lol

    Good for you to do this!
    I agree with you that we should embrace who we are. At the same time, it’s wonderful to immerse ourselves in the culture we’re living in. If one lives in a country long enough, we take on its culture. The longer you live in France, you will become more French.
    So as a beginning and Just a recommendation, Before IKEA, check out the flea markets for whatever you need. They are extraordinary. Go very early in the morning before the tourists or better yet, at the end of the day when you can negotiate. You will eventually remove “IKEA” from your vocabulary.
    One difference between the French and Americans is that Americans think “practical” and the French think “beautiful” for every aspect of life. It’s subtle yet noticeable.
    Also, as you speak more French, you will begin to feel more at home in France. The French appreciate the effort and will help you.
    Bonne chance with your adventure!

      @@JaniceInFrance Hi Janice thanks for replying. I am very happy how you have found your place forever. In France as far as I know they have very good hairdressers so I don't think you will find problem staying beautiful because all you need is a perfect hair cut which I believe they are masters in. Love your videos and I liked you from the moment I saw you. I will keep watching your videos on daily basis. Kind Regards from me and beautiful Sydney Australia🇦🇺♥️🌊🌞
