Thanks, Dani! I have just recently completed a weight loss of nearly 100 pounds. I am 64 y/o and changing the way I have eaten my whole life to a clean and healthy diet. Beets are one of many things I have rarely eaten in my life because I never learned how to prepare them. I am gradually changing how the entire family eats (I have 2 special needs adult children who still live with me and my hubby of 47 years) I am excited to purchase some beets this week and add them to our new repertoire of healthy foods!
Beats are safe to cook in the aluminum foil. I looked it up. It’s approved by the FDA for high temperature cooking. It also said if any small traces were to be absorbed, it would pass through your system and end up in the toilet.
Oooooooo my goodness. I had no idea that I love beets until I tried roasting them fresh. I love your channel. You have opened a whole new world of healthy and delicious cooking (and eating) for me. Thank you so much for all that you do for us!!!
Dani!!!! Look at how far you have come!!!! I have been following you for 10 years now and you have over 2 million subscriberssss!!!! Woohoo!!! Love - Tabatha from Rhode Island!
Finally! This is a recipe that is simple enough to make! You just have to clean the beets, package the beets in aluminum foil, and put it in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. As for the stain, I won't mind. Skin cells always regenerate. I once tried beets before when I bought one of those self-serve salad bowls at Whole Foods Market. The bowl cost me less than $20, but at least I got a little bit of each selection at the salad bar. That's the only time I bought something at the salad bar, because I know the salad bar is extremely overpriced. But then, that should be expected, because (1) people are paying for organic food, and (2) people are paying for the extra service of having ready-to-eat food.
I like to make a cold beat soup. I grate raw beats, carrots and cabbage, add some tomato juice and water, then a bit of chopped up garlic, salt and pepper to taste. I serve it cold and garnish everything with some green onions and cilantro. It's delicious! You should definitely try it out, you're gonna love it!
My botany professor was from eastern Europe, and he loved to say "I could eat beets 'til I borscht!" If you are new to beets, don't be shocked if your urine or stool looks bloody the next day:)
You are a inspiration to so many of us out there that are making a conscious decision to eat healthy.......I steamed my beets earlier today and the water looked AMAZING! Any ideas in regards to how I can use this "beet broth".....lol.......again.....THANK YOU!
I assume discarding the skin helps get rid of the extra aluminum from the foil, but then you lose the nutrition in the skin. Would wrapping the beets in parchment paper before the foil fix this? Other solutions?
Hi-I really like it. I have a question Is it not better to put Baking Paper Sheets under beets , so they don't touch foils as foils may have some chemical ?
Thank u for sharing how to prepare beets! I am a diabetic type 1 and I recently changed more of my eating habits along with my son of 26. I'm 56. We BOTH decided its time to get healthier in 2020, so we have changed happily discovering everything green along with ,turkey, fish, chicken, and now the beets lol! Actually to our surprise, they are NOT distasteful at all and are soo delicious! So THANK YOU, MAHALO for your beautiful calm, easy to prepare videos! God Bless you & Believing God for a great change in my A1C # and in 2020 to a healthier life ! Much Aloha
Hi I started growing beets 3 years ago but always boiled them as I didn't know how else to do them but today I decided you how to roast them so that I don't lose any of the goodness and your video looks great and made me want to eat some beets now. I can't wait to roast some tomorrow now. 😋😍
Cool video, love beets. here is something to try that is surprisingly good. I moved from the US to Sweden and one of their main sandwiches is Swedish meatballs (Ikea) mixed with a mixture of chopped up beets mixed with some mayo to where it has a pink color put on a sub roll/baguette. first time i seen it i thought it sounds horrible but it works so well and is a whole new flavor that i never had.
Could you cook potatoes and onions together with beets this way, or would the cooking times vary too much? Guess could make up for difference by picking smaller for the ones that take longer
Can you suggest an alternative to roasting without aluminum foil. It's been suggested to not cook with aluminum, due to studies that show causes of Altzheimer's disease.
In this case, the aluminum foil is not leeching into the beets. They have their skins on and are peeled Actually aluminum collection in the brain seems to be connected to Alzheimers - BUT, some cook in aluminum pots all their lives and do not get it. It seems to be how your body deals with it that is important.
Wrap in aluminum foil and roast in a crock pot for about 2 hours, I clean my beats thoroughly and find no need to peal the skins off. Tender and delicious.
Nice vid! I think I will try roasting them on a grill this way. Probably open the foil when I have about 10-15 minutes left. I do this with a lot of different vegetables, but haven't tried it with beets yet. I have some in the garden that should be ready soon. :-) Much better than store bought, and I know they don't have any pesticides on them!
I just steamed my beets for 2 hours in a steamer but It's not as sweet as I thought it would be. I don't know whether or not I steamed it for too long but I guess I'm still going to get some nutrition out of it. I also love making beets and goat cheese salad if I can use a little bit of stevia. Oh, my gosh, eating organic never tasted any better. Love it so much. I'm vegan for life.
1st time watching Your channel, it was very informative and easy to follow. Thanks very much Dani, I've just subbed and looking forward to your recipes and suggestions in the future. Happy to share Your channel to help bump up the last 50K to 2 million subs, congratulations ;-)
Thank you very much. I have learned a lot of new things from your videos. I think it is necessary you mention by eating beets, your number 1 and 2 would be red or pink for a while. some people that don't know it, become scared!!!
Dani: Thank you. It works and it is easy-to-make. I can prepare them as a side dish and serve at room temperature so that I can make other dishes that must be prepared right before dinner.
Will the cooked beets stain a plastic container when you store them? I know that tomato sauces will do this and I am never happy with the stained containers.
YES, they will stain, because plastic is porous. Even better, stop using plastic, for your health. It leaches food and releases plastic chemicals. There are glass storage containers that will last much longer, with lidsthat will last longer too, if you don't put them in a dishwasher. Much healthier.
@@kathyb2880 Yes, glass is definitely the way to go. I generally avoid plastic. The current high use of plastic for bottled water is something that irritates my environmental conscience. Most people don't even think twice.

I watched this video years ago and have been cooking beets this way ever since. Thanks!
I have to admire how bold you are to work with beets while wearing white.
haha! i like to live on the edge a little;)
Mixed beet and salad greens with craisins, pistachios and goat cheese. Add beets and a tangerine vinaigrette. Delicious!
Beets are Underrated!
agreed!

I cook beets this way in the oven or on the grill, so much more intense flavor. I do not peel the beets, the skin is delicious.

I prefer smoothie joints and salad bars over fast food anyway 😁 I feel way better and more energy afterwards too!

Thanks Dani I will be roasting beets this weekend for my greek salads throughout the week :)

I luv beets. You did a thorough and excellent job. As a widower I was trying to find another way besides boiling, and I've been enlightened!
Just got 3 bags of beets in my veggies mystery boxes!! So excited to try these in salads and soups and desserts!
THE BEST video I’ve seen on cooking beets and I’ve watched about 6. Thank u!😊

Interesting... sometimes the most unusual concoctions can be quite delicious ;)

Have you tried the roast beet and smoked buffalo mozzarella and fresh mint....delicious
Thanks Dani Dani bo Bani Bonana Fana Fo Fani!

We gonna follow this one. Our first time roasting beets. Looks yummy for sure.
You're the best
Thanks for the awesome tips.
Great video and tips for making recipes with beats. 😃 Question: I am going away in two days, could I bake them, peel their skin off and freeze them?
Again Dani thank you I LOVE beet!!! I am going to have to come to your blog
Try the grill the next time. Comes out great. We do about 2 plus lbs., super good!
Do you have any beet green recipes? My dad has an awesome recipe for beet greens with pistachios, I posted it on my blog.
Could you cook potatoes and onions together with beets this way, or would the cooking times vary too much? Guess could make up for difference by picking smaller for the ones that take longer
I love beets! they are also super yummy with some salt & pepper, lime, and thinly sliced onions. =)
Thank you you made it easy and that’s what I like🌹👍
Perfect. I love beets!
I like my beets with Olive oil, sea salt, black pepper and balsamic vinegar. Yum!

Hi Danni, is any way to avoid foil as i cant use anything with aluminium. As I have a cancer. Thank you
Using aluminum the way she did is not really roasting. Yes: skip the foil; get better results!
mad thumbs thankyou i had no foil, jackpot
Thank you! Short and easy to follow!
Thanks for the video. I made beets for our first Thanksgiving at home.

Thank you very much. I have learned a lot of new things from your videos. I think it is necessary you mention by eating beets, your number 1 and 2 would be red or pink for a while. some people that don't know it, become scared!!!
Does beetroot have nutrients after roasting?
I can always google it no problem but any idea how to make an organic goat feta cheese?
Thank you that was helpful... I need to eat these more
Pre-covid days .. so innocent and fun
Thats a great video right there! Thanks Dani!
Dani: Thank you. It works and it is easy-to-make. I can prepare them as a side dish and serve at room temperature so that I can make other dishes that must be prepared right before dinner.
nice video! thank you !
Thank you for your clear and concise instructions.
Thank you🤗👏🏻
Good with dash of salt and pepper, sprinkle of scallions and drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a dash of feta.
Would roasted beets be good for pickling?
i thought cooking it for too long and high temp. kills the nuttriion?

I love roasting my beets making soup and using the greens
Thank you for sharing..
Delicious.
Awesome!
Awesome
Thanks Dani.
:)
Roasting them right now. Thanx
thank you
Awesome... I am headed home to roast some beets.
Love it!
Beets are excellent on top of a burger!
Pepsicarwash yum! I'll have to try that:)
Thank you!!!
Keep it clean & simple. After peeling ( or not) a few drops of olive oil & sea salt is sufficient and healthiest.
Try a Russian Salad called Shuba.
(Herring under fur coat)
It's made with beets.
Thank you.

I cook them in a beef bone soup to enhance the flavor
Hi Dani, thank you! Could you make a video in order to learn to puree a beet? 🤗❤️
thank you! i pureed mine for my little baby!
I love that you did that!
We love them with just salt but sometimes we add olive oil 😋
Yes that is the best for me too,,,love beets
thank you needed this
great video - i put ale in beets
Can you show us how to make homemade mayo??
That would require about 5 minutes of just standing there pouring oil in as slow as possible, unless using the whole egg / immersion blender method.
This is Lori Bach. Does anyone out there know of a substitute for aluminum foil?
Cool, thx :)
I like to juice them :)
Her or the beets hahaha
maraming salamat po!!! MABUHAY!!!
I boil beets, but I see that this is a better and faster way
Watching this during quarantine because the only vegetables left at the store were beets
Why not eat the skin?
Beets are so underrated I wish someone would touch my beets
There is one in every crowd. You are it.
I love beetroot,so much flavour but a bit messy to cook lol
Can't you cook them the same way but peel them first?
