Hi Belinda, I live in the UK and just been given a celiac positive from a blood test, the results are Coeliac screen was positive (tTG IgG> 250 (0-15)), this test was done by immunology dept, due to IGA being absent in my blood. I saw my GP this evening and he said the gold standard test is an endoscopy and this has to be done to confirm. Can I ask if I need to go through this invasive procedure to be confirmed? Kindest regards Diane
Hi Diane - thanks for your question and welcome to the celiac club. If your dr has advised that it's the gold standard to get a confirmation, then I think it's a wise choice to get the endoscopy done. The scope is not as scary as many people think. If this is what your dr needs to do in order to sign off on giving you a diagnosis, it may benefit you in the future if there are any fundings for reduced food costs on gluten free food or any treatments that become available. Hope this helps? I'd love you to join my weekly newsletter list too if you haven't already so you can keep me updated? Hello Diane, I am also in the UK, and I have twice tested positive for Celiac on the blood test. I have had an endoscopy five weeks ago and I am waiting for the result. The endoscopy seems to be the standard procedure for a diagnosis in the UK. I was very stressed out about having the endoscopy, which was done on the NHS. When I came to have the endoscopy it was all over in about ten minutes, and I didn't think that it was any worse than a trip to the dentist. So while I know that it's easier said than done, please try not to worry about it. I hope that this helps you a little. Good luck with your diagnosis.
@dianethomas2055 Hello, I am pleased to be of help to you. I was dreading the endoscopy, and in the end it was a very positive experience. I was very impressed with the efficiency and professionalism of the hospital staff. I am sure that you will be fine with it. I had never had any medical procedure previously, and I am a very nervous person. Best regards. Anthony
Thank you Anthony, I hope you get the results soon. Have you started gluten free way of eating ? 😊
Thank you Belinda, just feel a bit scared of an endoscopy!!! I have joined.
Fear of the unknown is completely normal but I'm sure you will be fine.
