    I am applying to UBC as an internation student (my parents are Canadian so I have citizenship) and my school doesn't do percent marks. We just have A,B,C,D,F. Sometimes the averages listened for the schools are confusing. I am also going to apply to McGill (for fun) and Waterloo.

    While applying they don't ask for transcript. I saw options of adding school names you attended but not transcripts just personal profile prompts were being asked before giving application fees. The transcript submission is afterwards?
    Plus I have not done my high school from Canada though am domestic student only. ILETS and all comes later?

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe (at least for BC) you need to allow your transcript to be shared with the universities you'll be applying for on some website, and you don't submit it directly yourself. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure what the process is for ILETS.

    • @AveryCheng

      I'm honestly not sure if they'll change this year, but for the last three years they have remained (relatively) the same. The only main differences have been word/character counts. But again, that is subject to change in the future

    Hello Mr. Avery! If possible, I was hoping to get your insight on what I should work on to better my chance into UBC (van) Faculty of Science.
    I'm currently taking the IB Diploma Programme in grade 12, my final grades from the previous Gr 11 year are:
    Higher Level English: 7 (100%)
    Higher Level Physics: 5 (93%)
    Higher Level Chemistry: 5 (93%)
    Standard Level AA Math: 6 (95%)
    Standard Level French: 5 (88%)
    Standard Level History: 6 (95%)
    My gr11 predicted are roughly the same, with french being predicted higher and physics lower. My grade 12 predicted grades have yet to be released, but otherwise I'm not confident in maintaining my English, French and Physics until end of Feb when UBC collects PGs, I'm wondering how much wiggle room I really have to fit comfortably in the competitive range!
    Thank you in advance for the help!!

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It definitely has been a while since I applied, so standards have definitely changed a lot since then. Additionally, I'm not really sure what the Faculty of Science standards are like compared to the Applied Science standards. I will say though, you should be in a very comfortable position provided that your personal profile is strong enough.

      Hey! Unfortunately, I am TERRIBLE at editing people's essays and I'm overloaded with work at the moment 😭 Instead of me, I would suggest asking your English teacher, a grade counsellor, or someone else who has experience with application writing to proofread your essay. All the best to you!

    Hey Avery! I wanted your opinion on something and see if you think I can get into UBC Engineering. I just want your sole opinion, and please be transparent with me. I’m in Grade 11, and I’m from BC.
    Grades:
    BCFP 12 (SS): 86%
    English 11: 81%
    Chemistry 11: 92%
    Punjabi 11 (Alternate to French 11): 97%
    Grades in Ongoing Classes in Semester 2:
    Pre-Calculus: 87%
    Physics: 76%
    Robotics: 96%
    I do summer school every year to keep busy but this year I’m going to do either Pre Calculus or Physics, because they’re really bad. Also I got into AP English 12 so I hope that can cover for my bad grade in English 11. Thanks.

      You would need quite a good personal profile to make yourself stand out from other candidates. Good thing is there's still time to get your grades up (preferably in the +90% range). If you're able to show in your personal profile what makes you unique and boost your grades up to above a 90% average, then you'll have a good chance of being accepted.

  • @xcanadiaa71
    @xcanadiaa71 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @tablotable

    Hi Avery :)
    I'm applying to UBC in about a month and I'd like to ask if you think I have a good chance at Engineering or Science. I haven't gotten any grade 12 grades yet since the semester just started but my grade 11 grades were:
    94.4% overall (I got 100% in both concert band and jazz band so might be inflated)
    92.4% academic (got an 86 in english which is really bringing the average down)
    I think my personal profile is pretty decent, my main concerns are my low English grade, and whether or not UBC admissions even looks at my band grade

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just a PSA that it's been over three years since I applied, so my information is probably out of date and UBC's acceptance standards have probably changed as well. That being said, I believe UBC does prioritize your academic courses (non-electives), so do your best to get your Grade 12 academic courses as high as possible (preferably > 95%) to solidify yourself as a strong candidate.

    Thanks for the informative video! I’m just wondering if there’s a video interview when you apply to the engineering programme? Cuz I heard that there are video Interviews in some of the ubc programs application and I’m not sure if there’s one for Applied Science

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I applied, there was no video interview that I had to do for Applied Sciences. There are video interviews required for Sauder, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and possibly some other programs. But this is subject to change in the future, as I’m not sure if it will be required for Engineering in future years

      @@AveryCheng for sure! Btw do you mind telling me around when u handed in your application? I’ve completed my personal profile but I still feel like I need time to edit it, yet a lot of people told me to hand it in asap so I’m struggling if I should just submit it after making a few more edits or leave it and keep editing until the perfect state

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just remember that's there's only so much you can edit your application before it doesn't sound like you. UBC is looking for authenticity with your application, and you don't want other people's edits changing the message that you are trying to convey to them. If you feel like you've made some meaningful edits and most importantly, YOU'RE PROUD OF YOUR APPLICATION, then yes, that would be the time to submit it.

    Hi, thank you for your video. I have a request. My daughter is in grade 11 and wants to become a pharmacist. I am looking for chemistry test extra practice resources. Sometimes, her teacher teaches university level chemistry lessons and there are some tests related to those lessons.
    I would appreciate it if you could give me some information about good resources.

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, chemistry wasn't and isn't really my strongest subject. I never received any "good" resources for any of my chemistry courses to prepare for tests, certainly not tests related to my lessons. My best advice is to look for old practice exams for each of the units your daughter is taking in chemistry. They don't have to be made by her teacher, they just have to test the content that she has been taught in class.

    So i wrote my essay using your character limit here. However, my friend last year had a 500 word limit. Is my essay still ok or should i try to hit the new limit

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  ปีที่แล้ว

      Take a look at how many words your essays are now, and see if they're more or less than 500 words. It's always nice to be slightly over the limit (word or character) because it's easy to trim sentences and words down. That way, you'll be prepared no matter if it's a word or character limit. Hopefully that helps

    • @GregoryOdiwa
      @GregoryOdiwa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AveryCheng so I should hit the new word limit because it's double your character limit in length

      @AveryCheng also I have a 99% avg and am a mentor in the badminton team, completed the SHAD program, president of social justice club, volunteer at food drives and part of a competition called envision to raise the most money for charity which we won. How do I stand as an applicant to ubc

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe go off of the most up-to-date information, as my character limits were from two years ago. However, expect things to change when the application prompts do get released

    • @AveryCheng
      @AveryCheng  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot speak for what UBC will think of you as an applicant, but if you are able to explain in your application what you did, how you did it, what you learned in the process, and how it will apply in the future as a student at UBC, you will have a pretty good shot at getting in. Standards have changed, however, and they may be higher or lower depending on a number of uncontrollable factors
