    Although you'll probably never read this Nick, this is the best tutorial I've seen on how to make a Celtic knot.

    4:45 If "Stroke to path" doesn't work for you, this is because the function behaves differently in Inkscape 1.0. It now keeps the infill which is now grouped together with the stroke. In order to continue ungroup them all and delete the fill.

    Hi Nick, First up thanks for teaching me Inkscape, I have been subscribed for some years now. Just a heads up on Celtic, pronounced with a Kel as in Kelly, not C as in Ceylon.

    4:48. When i tryto do the Stroke to path, the fill color is still there and when i try to click the X for the color, everything disappears including the strokes.

    You must be psychic!
    I've been playing with designing some Celtic knots in a very hacky way and was hoping to see an example from you. As always, very impressive how you simplify a complex process.
    Thank you.

    I'm so excited, it's just what I need to know to design a jewelry pendant. I imagine you might have found out in the last year and a half or so, but both in Ireland and in the US, only sports teams are pronounced seltic. All other uses of the word are pronounced keltic, so they are _keltic nots._ Strange yet true. There are Dublin Celtics a football team pronounced just like our Boston Celtics. They and we don't pronounce the word with an S sound in any other usage. Now back to the video:)

    If you get a box rather than a line segment at 6:35 that means you did object to path, not stroke to path.

    For anyone having the trouble I did at point 2:23-2:24, the secret is one set is a group, but the the other is NOT grouped. Don't group them together before you duplicate.

      In Inkscape 1.0, they changed how the Stroke to Path operation works, with it now keeping the fill as a separate object. Simply ungroup the objects by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+G, then select the red inner fill objects and delete them!

    Hi Nick recently started my Inkscape journey and thank you very much for your amazing tutorials really love them. I followed all steps but can’t achieve the same gaps as shown, only created some funny shapes through “intersection” and “difference” . Wondering if this is because Inkscape changed the features to “strokes to path”? Are there any ways to address this problem? Hope to hear from you, thanks.

    Hey Nick, I thought I'd work my way through your earlier tutorials. I am using Inkscape 1.2 and I'm not getting the results you have on the tutorials. I play the tutorial all the way through, then go over it again and write down the instructions and follow stroke for stroke but I'm getting different results. Allowing for differences in Inkscape versions and searching for what might have been updated it's still a frustrating mystery. I've completed your course for beginners but it isn't helping here. Is there any chance you could revisit some of your older tuts and redo them using the 1.20 version of Inkscape, please?

      Yes. You can find the presets on your computer. -> \Inkscape\share\keys
      You have to change the name to default.
      On Windows. It's maybe different on other OS-systems.

    When I do stroke to path in inkscape 1.0 the object changes shape and becomes slightly bigger on the inside where the points meet. Now the objects don't perfectly align and when I complete the rest of the tutorial I end up with a jagged edge on the center triangle area.

    I made the first circle 100 px in diameter, then duplicated it, and overlapped them by 0.382 px. This will create a Celtic Knot using the proportions of the Golden Ratio. (1 - 0.38 = 0.62).

    I literally cannot get this to work because for some reason none of the cloves will line up at all.

    • @hansbrackhaus8017
      @hansbrackhaus8017 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried holding the control key before moving the second clove to the right? This ensures that you will do a clean, perfect horizontal or vertical movement.
      But I can't really get this to work, either.
      In my case, the outset function does not work like it does in this version. Mine is 0.92.2.
      It's extremely inconsistent and ends up looking warped. After getting cut up the outset distance also changes, despite no parameter change in the preferences.
      It's just a mess. It makes this a pain. There are linked and dynamic outset options but those glitch too, creating weird stripes that shoot out to the side.
      Not a visual glitch, either, since it pushes out the bounding box of the shape. Bleh. Not fun.

    • @WilliamBrayton
      @WilliamBrayton 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I was getting, the way I finally fixed it was through creating 4 circles at the very start and using the tribute's tool to make sure every circle was equally distributed. That helped prevent a lot of the muss. Ontop of that before moving forward with the cutting process, I made sure that the lines all met up fairly closely.
      Its an issue with the way the align/distribute tools work I think.

    Based on this tutorial, I'm pretty sure I don't understand what the "Duplicate" command really does. Not a knock at all--in fact, the more I watch, the more I realize that learning Inkscape has to start with a fundamental understanding of what this vector graphics thing is all about.

    • @LogosByNick
      @LogosByNick  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Duplicate" basically create another copy of something. So if you start out with 1 red circle, you can duplicate it, then you'll have 2 red circles.
