  • Welcome to FJ Cruisin' a show about going on adventure, gear and tool reviews, DIY's and How To's.
In todays episode we are confronted with a stuck axle nut which is preventing us from doing a CV axle replacement on the FJ Cruiser. Roman tried a breaker bar and pipe for extra leverage, but to no avail, the breaker bar broke! That axle nut was stuck good, in a bad way! He needed more power so he invested in an electric impact wrench, but not just any impact wrench, the Bauer Heavy Duty Electric Impact Wrench from Harbor Freight. Will this Bargain Hammer save the day?

The torque actually builds as you leave it on. He’s not using even half of the power of his machine.

Never seen someone baby an impact wrench before.

You need to just hold the trigger down to give it time to build up torque. Stop babying the tool, just hammer away at that bolt.

I had broke 2 of my neighbors breaker bars trying to remove that nut…. I didn’t have the funds for a mechanic … after the second day bought that 1/2 impact and successfully came off 🙏🏽 then spend 5 more hours trying to remove and install the new axle 🤣
You learn something new every day

It seemed to me that you had never used a impact wrench before. You don't press the trigger for just a couple of seconds then let go, you should continue to press the trigger so that the hammer got a chance to knock the nut loose. I used the same impact wrench to loosen the 36mm axle nut on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and it only took about three or four seconds of hammering,

Dude, you hold the trigger until it breaks lose.
I would of gotten that lose in less than a second. With cordless impact wrench.

The threads looked good. Should’ve gunned it til it broke loose. Next time try it on rusted bolts. Real world test.

Gotta hold the impact button on that nut until you get oxygen bubbles in your blood on your hand

Stick a screwdriver in the slots on the edge of your rotor up against the caliper. It will keep it from turning.

I had that tool. It didn't work on a crankshaft pully bolt. I hated the forward and reverse trigger. It might have worked if I hadn't been using an adapter extension. I ended up getting the Milwaukee M18 Impact wrench and a Milwaukee deep impact socket set. Mine is cordless which i like better than corded. Now I'll never know if that Bauer could have done the job. Oh well.

I'm here because mine won't crack a crank bolt on a Yamaha v8 engine in a Volvo.
Don't lose any sleep over it. 😆

This is far from their best impact, either. The Hercules compact 1/2 is better, and the Earthquake XT 1/2 has comparable performance to the M18 fuel and has a 5.0AH 20V battery included.

You have to hold the trigger lol. Tapping the trigger isnt doing much. The tool needs to build up torque.

Use a dedicated 20 amp circuit to make it work correctly. If you use a extension cord use a 12 gauge cord to carry the amps. And for gods sakes… hold the trigger down.

Is it to big for brake or suspension job? Does it fit in there since it’s length isnlong

    • @fjcruisin1302
      @fjcruisin1302  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's a pretty large and bulky drill so in some cases a smaller more compact air hammer might be better for the job, depends what you're working on, but if you've got enough space this thing is powerful enough to get the job done.

Put a screwdriver into the middle portion of the brake disc through the brake caliper and then just hold the trigger of the impact. The axle won’t rotate and the nut will come right off. The Bauer has lots of torque.
