    Thanks for actually testing the ports, specially the USB4 power. "Big" TH-cam reviewers don't even do that and just read off a spec sheet. Well done, mate. Keep at it.

    One of the best, the most indepth reviews of m6 I've seen, great job!
    I've also faced the same issue while installing a 2nd ssd, I've found that you can't use both ssds with heatsinks, the space between the ssds aren't wide to accommodate both ssds equipped with heatsinks. The outer ssd slot may have any taller ssds with heatsinks, but then the inner ssd slot must not have any heatsinks, taller or slimmer.
    Keep up the good work!

    Damn you are thorough. Two thumbs up 👍👍

    Another excellent, clear, concise, informative and comprehensive review done in a surprisingly but not disapprovingly short time. For the money and for what it is, it does seem to offer very good value. With a few manufacturer tweaks to the cooling and the one SSD heatsink width. it could indeed be used to stretch the power over longer periods of time.
    The kind of thing that I would consider today if it had AV1 decoding support, which was not unexpected based upon the age of the processor but nevertheless, a consideration for me going forward.
    But for those that see it doing all that they would wish, quite the potentially attractive proposition.

      My first video of this device was over an hour long. I cut that down as much as possible to fit into 20 or so minutes, LOL. Apparently this chip does support AV1 decode. I didn't really delve into that aspect.

      @@htwingnut Whatever length is appropriate to give the right information is always important. Be careful of going down the rabbit hole of compressing things because of some short attention spans. That often leads to sloppy reviews, leaving more questions open. Ambiguity leads people to look elsewhere to get all the answers, whereas if they can get them all in one place, then that single hour spent having all the right purchasing decision available means not having to watch multiple videos from other sources that can ironically increase the over all time watching them to get the same information in less time. But as I initially said, you did a great job in getting it across in less time than you may have normally spent, which could simply mean that you have improved your own techniques. Only you know for sure.
      If this does support hardware accelerated AV1 then this would tip me over the edge to a worthwhile purchase.

    Спасибо за хороший обзор. Нюанс с толщиной радиатора нвме диска очень полезен. Однозначно лайк👍

    So I don't know if you still have it or, I followed your guide to disassemble my g6 and replaced the thermal paste with PTM7950 and initially it did not make much difference in temps. Once it cured my temps barely exceed 78 degrees now. In contrast it used to stay around 90 in games with higher CPU demand. Anybody reading this can get a fair idea as to how effective PTM is and should look into replacing the stock thermal paste immediately. The cooling is sizeable but the thermal paste is some of the worst performing I have seen

  • @trustbuster23
    @trustbuster23 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is super helpful, thanks. Do you think I should be wary of the thermal performance if I occasionally have some lengthy handbrake encoding queues in my workflow? Otherwise I am mainly going to be using this to run triple 4k monitors for basic productivity work and some light video editing. But every now and again I will need to dump a bunch of stuff into handbrake and just let it grind through a long queue all night. I don't much care about the fan noise under a sustained load, but I am a bit worried that I'll cook this little thing if I ask it to encode all night. I would love to be able to get away with something this inexpensive if I can.

    I have the M5 nonplus model I bought it $200 bare bones Black Friday it has been an awesome awesome little computer The only difference is it only has one m.2 versus the two on the plus but other than that it's been an amazing little machine!

    Typically the second temp on the SSD section of Hwinfo is the controller (and the 1st temp is the NAND). That controller was running very hot if that temperature is to be believed.

    • @htwingnut
      @htwingnut  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      HWInfo64 indicated that the third temp was controller, but I had every reason to believe that second temp was the controller as well. Too hot for my liking regardless.

    That's a lot of horsepower for the price and I can't find much of anything in the teardown to gripe about. I'd prefer a single 10gbe over a pair of 2.5s but thats just a personal preference and the second NIC certainly opens the door to more use cases. This may be a dumb question, but it's been crossing my mind and I haven't found where anyone has tried... do you know if the power bricks for these mini-units are able to be linked with a Y cable for "redundant" power? Just spitballing an idea for more use cases, but I honestly don't know if any logic would be required. Thanks for the video!

    • @htwingnut
      @htwingnut  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm not sure about the split power concept. I would think it would need a manual switch or logic board of some sort. It really isn't wise to combine two power sources without proper circuitry. Combining them in parallel would maintain proper voltage, but no idea how current would be managed without some form of proper logic or resistors.

    Is the 4800MT/s RAM speed the maximum this system supports?

    I wish this had an OCULINK port. I dont understand why your CPU re-paste results make little difference. Did you see my G5 results after MX4 repasting? I completely eliminated ALL throttling and others have commented similar yet somehow you had very little change? Maybe that paste bad/old/too much i dunno. Thanks for the video, i'm enjoying your channel and have sent others here also.

    • @htwingnut
      @htwingnut  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment! This is a fresh tube of paste. My experience has been that you can add too little, but not really too much when it comes to a bare die.
      I'll take a look at your G5 MX4 repaste. At least from my experience, I've had MX4 pump out very quickly with laptops. Starts out great but quickly degrades over time and needs to be changed.

      1:29 is USB 4 technically the same as thunderbolt 3? Does it support egpu?

      @htwingnut  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WMans264 Good question. It shows up as a PCIe link with the USB4 SSD adapter so likely. I don't have one to test, otherwise I would.
