Used this build and finally dropped him, still need to beat Erlang but I’m closing in on that too. Phase 2 really comes down to dodging and not getting greedy; once you get it to 50% you let him have it. Thanks man.
Beated him first try using you're build! Tysm! For those who still have problems, try using ring of fire; It helped me a TON during the fight, its basicaly a costant heal without using your gourd. Try fighting around it so that you are costantly healing while fighting.
Apparently i went through the entire game without doing the merchant in chapter 2's quest and missed out on getting permanent upgrades to stamina, health, mana etc. No wonder this boss, the inspector guy, and other bosses killed me so much smh. Anyway doing that and healing myself via ring of fire instead of gourds helped bc he didnt steal my gourd in phase 2.
Correction the stone attack he will punish you if you haven’t already triggered it before he’s at 50% health , he did to me when he was in about 35% health I avoided the attack early on and made a mistake late and he did it so he can still hit you with it later on in the fight if you haven’t already triggered it
This was the best tutorial. Not relying on specific spammy bs. Just equip reasonable equipment, be present amd patient. Got him on my second try after watching. (At least a couple dozen attempts before watching)
A thing I've noticed is that if you are charging up and he starts to move hit him right away. You won't get a full powered attached but odd are you'll get something.
bro i fought erlang before i fought the shell and ngl he made me so much angrier than erlang. like ik erlang was wayyy harder but he just made me so much more fucking angry. in retrospect yeah hes a cool boss but when i was fighting i felt like he was the culmination of every pet peeve i have in a boss fight. idk if it was this guy, but after watching this video i actually beat him first try. so thanks, i guess
for first phase , lock on,pull distance , charge to full and smash keep repeat , phase 1 is quite dumb so try not to waste a single sip of gourd on phase 1
If I remember correctly, there's a chance he'll do it if he's relatively close to you in phase 2, and you sip more than once in 10 seconds or so. Basically if you keep spamming certain actions there is a chance he responds accordingly
@ so he basically just takes an extra sip away from you so where I’m using the supreme Court that has 10 sips. Let’s just say I go through two of them. I’ll end up with seven if he takes one and if he does, he heal from it?
From what I remember, yeah he does heal from it, though I can't recall how many uses he steals. It's counts as at least one sip taken from you, though it could be more
This boss in the regular version is tough but can be made easy through potion use and control. I'm on NG+6 and he is ridiculous lol. Pretty much a one shot on any combo if you don't dodge. His attacks are super telegraphed so it's easy to know when to dodge. When it comes to most games like this people don't want to die and they are afraid. The reason you see some TH-camrs never getting hit and playing at what appears to be impossible levels is because they die over and over again purposely to learn attack patterns. But I think more than anything is its just a game. Don't be nervous or afraid. Once you get over that you will win easily. It took a bit for me to get past that a few years ago now I enjoy hard games. Always feels good when I can consistently pull off a no damage kill on Valkyrie Queen in GOW:R on give me God of war mode or Melania in Elden Ring. Fear is what makes these bosses seem hard. This game has some of the easiest bosses ever honestly. Erlang is probably the only truly difficult boss in the game because you have very tight windows to control him and his combo pattern is hard to pick up on because they last so long and three of his combos start with the exact same way and then branch into different things so you can get caught not reacting to the correct combo. Best tip I can give for Great Shell is Rock Solid is better then Cloud Step against him. He can only be Immobilize if he is staggered. So you can deflect directly into an immobilize. Always use the fan it allows for more damage uptime, control, and breathing room. His charge attacks have two pulses. Don't dodge until after his staff blinks the second time. The one where he loads up the big charge in thrust stance make sure to roll into/towards him. Dodging from left to right doesn't always work. Dodging towards him is the best strat. That attacks tends to mess up people the most. If your reflexes just suck and dodging is just hard to get the hang of at the speed you need to do it against this boss. Use the fan + gold set + bat. You can cheese your way to victory. He will be unable to fight you if you cycle fan/bat/immobilize properly combined with a transformation tossed in. The one that throws snowballs is great because it can freeze him and so some incredible damage. Also have a cooldown reset potion ready to go after leaving the transformation so you can immediately go back to controlling him. This boss is super easy
Actually, I used cloud step to charge my smash attack. It helped me cut down last portion of his health & randomly clicked on an artifact (tornado one) hoping it would help, sort of did lol
I used the water Armour you get after chapter 1. I upgraded it to legendary statues with the yin tiger so its almost on par with the Wukong Armour which has only an extra 4% more defence with the water armour, i always get 50% of my health back when i am on critical health unlimited. the last boss doest spam attacks on you so that gives me time to run around till health 50% again before attacking 😂
i beat him once with this guide, and after going back to fight him again after erlang, i just kept getting my ass kicked. tried the water armor to run around healing and finally beat him XD
I cheesed that charged heavy attack. He'll move ever so often. Only thing he does is throw the staff to interrupt ur charge but once u keep ur distance he just walks slowly towards u, that's phase one tho, phase two is a different story
I love how every how to video about this game boils down to "git gud at dodging lolz" XD but seriously, I wish there were a block ability in the game or at least a way to get MP back more easily when *not* at full HP and not gimping your health recovered amount. A 1x pill that refills your MP to full would be huge.
When in doubt, use Spell Binder! Boost your mana with everything (spirit, sparks, and even medicine), then activate Spell Binder and switch to a spirit and vessel with high critical chance and attack. Makes the fight so much easier! The Great Sage Broken Shell is strong, but honestly, not as tough as Erlang, Yellow Loong, or even Scorpionlord (when we were at a lower level). Just dodge well, avoid hitting the rock transformation, and steer clear when he’s on the cloud. You'll be fine! Even his drinking animation is nothing to worry about.
This video helped a lot, thank you. Things that I didn't hear mentioned in the video: 1. Don't use pillar stance. Some percentage of the time, he'll randomly grab it on the second health bar and throw you wasting your charged attack. 2. Mash a side dodge whenever you heal in the second phase, so that he doesn't freeze you and steal your healing. If you see his hand flash when you heal, he tried to do it. I think he only ever tries once per attempt.
For the first one, super disrespectful, he literally grabs your pole and smashes you into the ground nonchalantly. Other times he does the same but higher.
@@darkwolf988ify At first it's cool but after the novelty wears off it just reminds me how much of the difficulty of this game is literally just the devs saying "you don't get to use this ability now, deal with it" instead of just making a boss genuinely hard. You can sneak in another later with either immobile or with a good timed counter off his red thrust attack. Also red = dodge left or right; if yellow, dodge forward.
The big question I have is how did you get your max health to 900? I've copied your build, I even am at a higher level than you are in this video. Despite all of that I'm still below you by 260.
I love it when a devs idea of a difficult boss fight means giving them 40-hit wombo combos. The boss designs after Chapter 2 become noticeably worse and more gimmicky that becomes increasingly annoying. This one is no different and isn't making all the stress feel worth it.
This is the first playthrough. Read your item descriptions. You can equip all of the armor + staff found in chapter 6 which allows you to use the 4 point Wukong stance. You can use this stance from the point you acquire all 5 items up until the 2nd phase of this fight where he takes away your relics
This fight isn't difficult. His first phase is very passive. You can be aggressive and save your mana and spells for his second phase. Like every other tough fight in the game, look for openings and dodging well. Use cloud step to get around his combos. Use circle of fire 🔥! Trying to freeze him does nothing. The fight is made more annoying because of the stone monkey fight before it. 4 phases to a final boss is annoying.
Ok this is new game plus obviously because the stance you're in and regardless of how many points you invest in stances you don't get that 4th focus point. It says you do after 20 points invested but it doesn't show up ?
For the 500th time, it's not new game plus - you need to equip all 5 of the gear pieces you found in chapter 6. That includes the staff. The item descriptions explain this in detail. You only get to use this stance in the first phase, as he takes away your relics at the start of phase two. Holy hell, why do I even bother
It's not an unlockable stance. If you already upgraded enough stance points you'll get the 4 focus points, but the 4th will decrease over time. The equipment changes the icon in the bottom right corner and adds a 4th dot. It literally says the 4th charge won't decrease while you have the 5 items equipped. If you don't see the icon change, you do not have all the gear equipped
Yeah I didn't realize that one of the pieces of armor didn't automatically equip so I had to go in and change it. Now I got that with the 4 focus points. Thanks
