    I’m more interested in how to sell “anime inspired fashion” without getting sued for copyright infringement. The internet doesn’t really help with the legal part of creating an “anime fashion shop”. And I don’t really know what to research to get answers. ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
    I’m not a fan of editing or using original/official art works from the inspired anime-and slapping it on a shirt. That’s straight up stealing and holds no personal value to me as a potential small business owner. I want to design a piece of clothing and say “I made that”, not “I copied and pasted that”.
    I’ll be doing all my own graphics and designs. The only things I don’t claim to own are the anime characters and the show/manga they come from.
    So how do I get around the copyright laws to sell authentic fan-made merchandise? Can the information of this video apply to my situation?
    I smell my future bankruptcy because of potential royalty/license fees or a lawsuit...
    I just want to make anime clothes for the fandoms that’ll appreciate it and be a proud weeb... (´;ω;`)

      Better use your own characters as fanarts being sold are not considered as fanarts anymore as you make money out of anime characters that have copyrights. Unless you have a license, then you can use them :)

      @@josee803 Hi, usually most cosplay costumes for sale are illegal because no license was obtained, though you can buy certain official merchandise such as gadgets sometimes. There are some sites who claim that they are selling authentic costumes, but they don't. Rightholders just usually don't pursue stopping these sales, though it doesn't mean they permit it either.

      Hi @Aftab Zaman Well if the anime characters are made from scratch(ie: you came up with a unique anime character design) then the answer is YES! you can start a business, BUT! if you will be making a fan art(ie: Naruto) you will need to talk with the rightholders for you to start a business in legal terms as the characters you will be making as "merch/business products are licensed and bigger issues may arise if you continue illegal selling.

    • @pzychho
      @pzychho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Since no one answered, I'll try to. You can't send them an email asking for consent, that's not how It works in the industry.
      You will have to come up with a thorough business plan, that you can send to them. You need to include many things like where you are going to sell the merchandise, estimated revenue, and many other things.
      They will likely ask you to pay a certain amount up front, for example $5,000 to get the licensing. Then you have to pay a royalty for every order using the license, for example 20%.
      When you do all of this, getting a licensing deal isn't too hard. Just make sure you write a good pitch and a great business plan on how you are going to use the license that you are requesting. Hope this helps!
