  • The trade is finally done! The New York Jets have acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for several picks. The Jets will also receive the No. 15th pick of this year's draft, along with a fifth-round pick (No. 170). The Packers will move up to the No. 13th pick of the draft and receive a second-round pick (No. 42) and a sixth-round one (No. 207). Green Bay also receives a 2024 conditional second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the Jets' plays. Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy and David Helman react to the breaking news.

@@dexterthomas-payne4715 I would consider the top 5 QBs (not in order) to be; Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Mathew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Daniel Jones. I’m not sold on Geno repeating his great year, Baker isn’t consistent, Derek Carr’s best days have passed, Jared Goff could supplant Cousins or Stafford with a great year, Kyler Murray is just too inconsistent and there’s drama involved, and Justin Fields could be a top 5 QB with a solid year. All the other QBs (Dalton, Ridder, etc) aren’t even worth mentioning. As much as I love the 49ers, Purdy has too small a sample size and is injured. Trey is still developing and needs a full year of great production before being talked about, but he has the tools.
It’s not even close that the AFC has the best QBs…Rodgers was 2nd best QB in the NFC, but is at best #6 in the AFC. The top 3 QBs in the league are Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen in that order. I would also argue that Herbert and Lamar are better than Rodgers. Right after Rodgers is Tua, Lawrence, and finally Deshaun. You could argue that of the top 10 QBs, 9 are in the AFC, with Jalen being the sole NFC guy.

He's made plenty of good roster moves over the last several years, including the Smith Bros (and dropping Z when his career slide happened) Kesean Nixon, DeVondre Campbell, Rudy Ford, Rasul Douglas and several more. He's drafted some exceptional talent at good value. If this team, without Rodgers, gets out to a faster start that is going to be the outlook on every sports talk show and pre game show..that Gutekunst made the move at the right time. That he's a genius. They will be singing his praises. I don't think 4 games grades any GM, but the perception by talking heads in that scenario would be "Gutekunst geniously fleeced the Jets for a washed up has been." Bill Barnwell put this in perspective pretty well.
On the plus side, their offense is now infinitely better. But that would happen if they replaced Zach Wilson with Joy Taylor. On the surface this makes NY look like a Super Bowl team.
But there are big questions -
Hackett has been primary play caller during only one season in his career - last year in Denver. That didn't go well. When Rodgers had his big years, LaFleur was calling the plays. Hackett is playing for his career now. If he screws this up he'll probably never be an OC again. Which is to say it's not like they brought in an offensive guru with a long history of great results. This was purely an emotional appeal to Rodgers, and it may backfire.
Rodgers was about as good as Russell Wilson or Matt Ryan for most of last season. He might bounce back. He might not.
Their defense is solid, no doubt. And they left a lot of plays on the table last year with their extremely low turnover count, which should at least move toward the mean this season. But they faced an awful lot of second and third string quarterbacks. Predicting them as a top 5 defense may be over stating things. Top 15 for sure, but maybe not top 10.
Corey Davis seems like a probable cap casualty. While the offense has taken several steps forward, this would be a step back.
And in the "it is what it is" category - The market for Rodgers consisted of exactly one team. The wish list for New York consisted of exactly one player. GB had to make a move, and so did NY. This isn't a brilliant move for either team. It was inevitable as long as AR opted not to retire.

Other than that, it's a swap of 1st round picks this year, only 2 spots apart, and the Packers swap their 5th round pick for the Jet's 6th round pick. It's easy for the Packers to turn that 2nd rounder into a 1st rounder so win for the Pack.
