Thank you Marisa! As a herbalism student I could suggest exchanging comfrey for plantain which has many, many more properties for healing skin than comfrey which you shouldn’t use for long periods due to the toxic alkaloids. Comfrey is an AMAZING healing plant, just maybe not for every day use :)

We haven’t had to put sunscreen on our kids for years now ! We make a calendula olive oil infusion that we regularly use on the kids anyway but the biggest thing for us was definitely diet! We live in Ireland and have very pale Irish skin (everyone jokes about how easy the Irish burn when they finally see the sun!) but surprisingly even with our very pale skin we don’t burn and I put it all down to diet! And when we do get sun we actually have a gradual tan no blotches of flaming red skin! This wasn’t the case when we were young and on standard diets! And when our first son was born he burnt very easily until our diets changed !

No processed anything, everything properly prepared, no sugar lots of fermented food and broth. And one of the biggest things is our fermented cod liver oil . Hey Melissa. One tip i will tell you is that store your extra virgin olive oil in a black container and in a dark place since olive oil gets oxidised due to light especially with the white container you are using. Hope it helps 😊

I was reading a study that showed that purple/ebony carrot power has a higher SPF than zinc. I've been using it in my own homemade sunscreen recipe. I also put a few tablespoons of carrot oil, buriti oil, and a few drops of lugol's iodine to increase the darkening/SPF. You might want to experiment with MCT oil instead of coconut oil if you want a more liquid consistency? I also use a stick blender to mix everything. With inspiration from you I'm going to try a batch without zinc. If I find a good ratio I will share it all out! I'm very fair skinned myself and run/exercise in the desert daily so sunscreen is essential for me and I've had some good result so far with my current blend.

@@007roxxie Does it turn your skin purple? The answer is yes but when it's mixed with the brown/orange of the iodine and buriti plus the white of the tallow it's very subtle and doesn't last long. I don't use use much either. The base is just mct and tallow. I will share out a recipe in this thread when I get some time. If I forget I hope someone can remind me!

I have a few questions, and requests. 1) Do you have recipes for tallow hair pomade or tallow leave-in-hair-conditioner? 2) How long can tallow balm be stored? 3) Should the tallow balm be stored in the fridge or freezer or at room temp? 4) I have melasma, and only Kojic acid products seem to help. So I added kojic acid powder to my whipped tallow balm. Is that OK? Thank you so much for all the wonderful videos.

The clean eating keto and carnivore community has also noticed a huge decrease in sunburns too as long as we take similar precautions you mentioned. It seems the refined oils cause our bodies to burn pretty bad. I am almost as fair as they come and even I can be in the sun now and water for a while without burning. I still don’t go too long because I did get a couple bad burns, one out on a boat all day and another exposing my tummy that had not been exposed in a couple decades.

Do you have an updated recipe for the baby cream? Two or our daughters are having babies and I want to make them some baby cream for redness or rash issues. Would it work to just take the since out of that recipe? Or would you recommend something to replace the zinc? They also want to try cloth diapers to help baby skin be more protected. Thank you for this, right on time. I am finshing my last jar with zink and was gonna try next zink free and with tallow. Zink looks ugly on my face and neck, prevents oil from absorbing, too greesy, etc and I stil burn anyway. I live in high desert so no homemade sunscreen gonna work, for kayaking I have to go with Lizard brand of spf 50 if I wanna wear bikiny, but other then that I use my own now. I definitelly gonna try recepie, I have lots of herbal oil already infused. I used rasberry seed oil but probably gonna split it with carrot oil coz it is the only oil that protects me from cracking my skin around my lips and nose on the windy hot desert days when I am outing. Thank you again.

Do you have any idea what the SPF level of coverage might be for this?

Probably like 2. This is very dangerous advice.

Red raspberry seed oil is supposed to have an SPF of between 28 and 50, plus the other oils add some SPF, too. So I'm not sure the total amount, but I hope this helps :)

@Bumblebee Apothecary This is really bad advice. Raspberry seed oil not only has a low SPF rating but it only blocks UVA rays and provides no protection from UVB rays, which BURN the skin.

@@Skincareslug Actually, clothing and shade first (which is what I am recommending here) are the official recommendations from the medical world, if you look them up.

8 SPF against UVA rays... And that's if you are applying an adequate amount. Not a small amount to keep from clothes getting oily. Oils and sun equal basically cooking your skin. This is BEYOND dangerous.

    Nice video.
I saw several were asking about the Raspberry… Raspberry seed oil mostly protects against UVB which causes mutations that cause melanomas & skin cancers. It doesn’t protect the 95% of rays that are UVA. The coconut & olive oil do have some spf properties ( about a 4).
I was interested in this, I follow my own protocols for sun protection (🥼👖🧤👒) and am an old school Fully Licensed Cosmetologist ( not just hair or nails, or skin or massage, I do everything ) & Skin Microbiome Specialist. I do believe Whole Foods are medicine to our bodies compared to the highly processed crap American Stupid Diet. 😜👍🏼
