@@ltlt9012 If you're an indie you won't have budget for this type of implementation. It requires extensive mocap to get it right, and then you have to cleanup and provide the engine a bunch of animations to study from so it can pick the right one for each situation. The caveat of this is, high input lag, since the game has to search for specific animations and make transitions there's a huge input lag, which is why most companies don't use this. Especially for a stealth game which is the case here, it's a really bad idea since it requires precision. Looks pretty and fluid, but once you get your hands on it, will feel clunky. I'm honestly curious on why evr studio chose to use motion matching here, it will never feel good for a stealth based game, just look at valhalla, everyone says it looks great, but it plays like crap and characters are unresponsive. For indies and this type of games I suggest looking into how ALS4 does locomotion, looks great, fluid and most importantly it's responsive. If you want more detail on the animations, just make more transitions to give some variety.
@@robinv1485 Thanks for the info man, very detailed and informative. Can i just ask if you dont, how you know so much about it? Are you a dev yourself or just take alot of interest in it?
@@tommysmith7462 There is a presentation about motion matching from the guy who first successfully used it in a commercial product (For Honor). But I can't find it on TH-cam, but it should be available in GDC Vault. Since then Ubisoft enhanced it with Machine Learning to fight some problems. But I really don't get any of the points about input lag. Because there is no input lag. It is still just a capsule that moves. Animations in motion matching get movement of the capsule and try to find the appropriate next frame. Animations don't drive movement, movements drive animation. But to feel natural and give the chance for motion matching to give time for smooth transition capsule movements should have spring movement. Meaning that change of motion vector isn't instant but interpolated over time to the desired. Mentioned ALS4 has the same exact movement pattern. The Last of Us Part II and Part I (remake) is the good example of "stealth" game with motion matching. It is also used in Ubisoft games (Assassin's Creed) and other games like Fallen Order. But it is true, that this is mostly for big studios which can shoot hours of motion capture and just put it in some magic to get good results. Motion matching can be made faster with more animators with basic knowledge that can't be efficiently achieved with traditional methods. It is an example of when more money can give you results faster.
There's a few tutoriais on TH-cam showing how to make the character trajectory, and the motion matching blend Animation system, there's a plugin called Motion Symphony with free Animation in some tutorial on TH-cam,or you can try out two free plugin very easy to learn, one that made the trajectory and other the Animations matching, you can use the Animations of one tutorial wich is free, and follow the steps of other tutorial wich free plugin also.
This is it I promise I really hope you keep working on this game. I am a game developer in the making, but right now I am looking for a PC set up I’m trying to build one my own, but need help with which CPU motherboard and GPU to go with which would be compatible for a project similar like this
Of course. According to hearsay, it will be released early next year so that I invested hugely in this company as stockholder. This company is yet unlisted but it will not be long before it will be soon listed company almost in middle this year.
Is this using capsule movement simulation? The data match is very good! Do you guys match the animations to the capsule simulation in a 3d app to get close fits?
what is capsule movement simulation? and how is it different from whats available in unreal engine 5.1? im new and just want the best locomotion for my project
The angles are bit extreme on the run, but the run cycle actually looks really good. The footsteps just need a db or two less but other than that it's pretty good. In order to have the bootsteps sound authentic the boots need to hit the ground with more force than the animation is currently showing.
NEVER EVER call your project "project ...". It's known as a bad omen lol. Infact, no game with the name "project ..." did ever see the light of day in the end. No matter how good the concept or work behind it was.
Good evening 🙋♂️, I am gathering a team of enthusiastic games, experienced people and so far there are no ideas for a game, we will think about it after we recruit players. As I see it, you are good at game development. I want to say did not want to join?
This game is very promising, it has the potential to be a great success, but I felt a very poor sound quality, especially in the sound of the weapons, dedicate yourself to the sound effects of weppons and the game will be a masterpiece, and don't put censorship on the deaths. game with violence similar to Thelast of us that is successful.
We developed this through a long process, starting from conceptual design. We learned from many failures, and that's how we were able to create the motion matching system we have today. 😊💡
Damn. Better than what AAA studios develop these days!
I was wondering why the movement was so fucking smooth you guys should do more of these dev diaries
I think that might the absolute best foot work animation and dynamic controller iv seen 💯 👌
pls make a course on this, the rest of the mortals also want to use it
agree, animation right now is a 100% bottleneck in indie development pipeline ( especially procedural animation)

Looks very polished, nice
Very impressive! Nice smooth movement, very immersive
Amazing! Respect to devs who works on motion matching
보폭이나 몸의 쏠림, 모션에 따른 발소리의 변화까지 너무 좋음 :)
wtf
Full sprint with dust trails next.

Pretty cool, though the all white materials make it kinda hard to tell if there's any foot sliding going on or not
We need this.
We finally got this in Unreal Engine 5.
really???
how and where please

For anyone interested, in UE 5.4 there will be a free Motion Matching template with over 500 animations
When will they release it though?

this motion is super . i think better than GASP motion in Unreal
excellent.. only an expert eye would realize that perhaps sprint_start is missing
how do i do this in unreal please i really wanna make a game and i need movement the same speed and everything
