YOLO for me has meant living with less - less stuff, less shopping, less complicated - hair, make-up, clothing - less clutter. It all adds up to MORE time to do the things I love doing. My curly hair is now short - wash and go. My nails are short and neat. My closet is minimalist. I have one pot and one frying pan. And I honestly feel my life is much, much richer with less. Airy for me means room to breath. Loved this video. So interesting.

Fashion forecasting is the field within the fashion industry concerned with predicting upcoming fashion trends-colors, styling techniques, fabric textures, and more-that will spark consumer demand. @@ccdm515 That's no accident. That is the product of fashion forecasters. All of the big designers and mass market producers subscribe. Pantone uses fashion forcasters to determine the "color of the year". This is picked up in home design as well as in fashion design. It has become more sophisticated with the addition of data analytics, and you can bet that artificial intelligence will be incorporated into fashion forecasting very soon.

Many years ago I got a haircut at the local ‘ beauty school’. (That’s what it was called at the time.) I was amazed at the number of older ladies (in their 80s, I would say) who were getting their roots touched up to match their coal-black hair. I’m sure they thought it made them look young. I have always had short nails, but never let that stop me from using all colors of the rainbow and more. I even became fond of nail stamping. If i recall correctly chanel or the like sold a jade green nail polish a few years back that got super trendy with older women. You should check out magnetic polishes, and try them in more subtle colors like beige :) Holographic nailpolishes in beige or off white are also fun yet not too in your face (for instance the brand Holo Taco just released some nudes colored holo polishes, everything from beige to dark brown) if you want to ease your way in. Always use a clear base coat no matter if you use normal polishes or effect polishes, as they make the polish last longer, make removal easier (especially with any glitter polishes), and reduces or eliminates any nail staining. Clear top coats come in both shiny and matte and are not a must but they protect and modify the polishes in flattering ways, especially matte polish.
I'm weird but one fun twist on nail stamping is using some super white nail polish and use porcelain blue to stamp with to make your nails look like those old china porcelain plates and the like.

YOLO for me means, that I put together my outfit not following any trends. I am 70, rather plain looking, my aunt is 90. I raid her wardrobe and mine, and I pick up things fron charity shops, and I do whatever I feel like. You live only once, enjoy what you have, and get yout dresses and accessories out of their boxes, and take them to the street, and shopping malls. I would love to be a minimalist, but maximalist is more fun.

Same here! A friend of mine would compliment me on my jewelery. She never wore hers. She said she was always waiting for the right occasion. I told her, wear it anywhere & everywhere & any day you want. It's just jewelery, not a wedding dress. Lol. I change mine almost daily. I do have pieces that I've never worn, & I think, what a waste. So I'll wear it to the grocery store, thrifting, etc. & I often will get compliments on it. It adds an element of fun to the day for sure!
I am the same w clothing & accessories as well. You only live once...

Minimalism is great for people who need an outlet to simplify their environment, either as a mental exercise or because Other Things are taking up all their brainpower. I can't do minimalism OR maximalism- both are just too extreme for me. With maximalism, I am burdened by Stuff. With minimalism, there isn't enough variety to enjoy my environment (it's Boring,) or I'm always short something with a specific use. I just find out what I like and use, and every 6 months I figure out what's changed.
If you like 'more is more,' it's your life! It's your stuff! Have some fun! And if you ever doubt really enjoying something, it's okay. Just pass it on so that the next person can enjoy it just like you did. Then get some new thing that you like. No big deal.
Don't worry about 'body trends' or looking plain. I have no plans for changing my body too much. I know I look like if mashes potatoes pretended to be a human, and I am not putting in the money or work to be too different. Isn't a fun lipstick colour enough? Tell you what though, my closet has a lot of unique stuff in it. You live once. Wear that cool outfit to go walking around in the mall, just because it's out of the house and it has air conditioning. Enjoy things.

I recently was diagnosed with autism+adhd so I've been totally rethinking how I approach my style and what I wear, focusing on roomier, oversized clothing in specific fabrics (certain textures feel comfortable, others make me want to scream). Hence the enormous boom in Cottage core vlogs etc and the draw you describe away from screen life towards handmade hobbies etc. Also, since you mentioned Gemini hair, may I comment that your new deeper cooler hair colour is glorious with your skin tone and blue eyes. My favorite trend is probably the vintage optics of clothes. Also, I am looking forward to seeing long nails gone. I never thought they looked good on anyone.
As for the DIY part of fashion: I mean, there are lots of people that knit and crochet and there is some real quality stuff there, if you're able to do it yourself. Knitwear has always existed in fashion, but if this really becomes a big trend, I am scared fast fashion will find a way to cheapen it down and damage the reputation of real actual hand knitted sweaters and so on...

Hand made hobbies are definitely something I've seen picking up steam - particularly with the slow-living movement. I appreciate the emphasis on learning new crafts, trying new hobbies and using that to enhance your décor and your style. It's more thoughtful DIY with a purpose. I crochet and knit, so I've loved the focus on those over the last few years. I'm also hoping to see embroidery have a less mundane moment as well in every-day wear. Fiber arts as a whole is such a fun area to observe trends in. I attend a big fiber arts convention every year, and I'm always curious to see what is trending with colors, weights of yarn, crafts, kits, ect.

The yolo, ruffles, and hand craft hobbies stood out to me. I kind of combined all three into making my own clothes, starting from historical costuming patterns and ideas. Daring to wear a puffy sleeved top with stays over it out in public is the yolo part.
As far as a fringey wedding dress goes, I say go for it. The weddings that happen in 2023 will look like they happened in 2023 because they did. And isn't it more fun to look at old photos of trendy styles than more moderate styles?

The hand made trend made me think of hand knitting. There are huge trends in the hand knit world, I would be interested to see a vlog on how hand knits influence fashion (and vice versa). Used to work at the airport (20 years) and now, enjoying my créativiy and working in a primary school with littles kids, they make me smile. No more stress for me. And the trends that I will try are AiryStyle, Micro, Fringe. Merci beaucoup Justine. ;)

The first trend "airy" hit a nerve because I've been feeling a draw towards lacy and sheer fabrics which are easy to wear but have more drama than a plain tshirt. I'm also still seeing a lot of bold colours ( kelly green is still everywhere ), including hot pinks which would fit the barbie trend!

Thanks for your videos, I love how structured and well thought out they are. A thought about your point on choosing timeless styles for a wedding or any occasion - I don’t think it’s a negative thing to choose something you love that is a clear indication of the time and context you are in. Fashion and beauty is for self expression and it’s more fun when you’re not thinking about how how it will age (different from a sustainability conversation). Our thoughts and views change and evolve as does our style, so I don’t think we need to put so much pressure on choosing pieces that will represent us for all of time. X

I am really glad that trends are bending into more practical and healthier side. Shorter nails and hair, but well taken care of. Paper art to relax brain a little bit. Not only makeup routine but also a "take care of your health/body" routine, like scalp massages. It makes me think that we are going good way.
And btw fringes were very popular in 1920-1930s, maybe is it a strong comeback after whole 100 years? :)

I like the idea of incorporating lace and ruffles into both gender clothing. I has seemed to me that clothing that was not plain and monochromatic is too noticeable. People ask if it is for a special event. I have been collecting handmade laces and colored ribbons for years. I like sewing so see a chance now to do up some pretty tops and dresses.

I'll fit right in with short nails. I've never been able to grow mine long and if I could I would cut them short anyway as they aren't practical for cooking, crafting, sewing, etc. I like the idea of YOLO as it makes me think "carte blanche" which is basically my fashion sense. I've never been one to pay much attention to trends. I will, however, think about the airy and lace fashions. Off topic - how is your lovely home coming along? I would enjoy an update within the next few months.
