    I needed some household items, such as aluminum foil, cooking oil, aspirin, some clothes hangars, just basic stuff. Someone suggested I should order through Azure and have them delivered to my doorstep in a box a day or so later. I considered it momentarily, but decided instead to simply go to the Dollar Store and pick up what I needed. The weather was nice and I didn't feel like ordering anything online and it seemed like a nice opportunity to leave my computer off and my smartphone in my jacket pocket.

    My Azure order closes in 2 days. I went back and ordered more of the Azure Clean products 🎉 Many were on sale ‼️, so I grabbed multiples! I love how clean their cleaning products are! In these uncertain times STOCK UP on today’s prices!

    Prices are horrible. But I try to watch my sales and clearance sections. If azure pick up was closer to me I would order from them. But 2 hours one way doesn't make it economical

    Love Azure so much. I agree about the inflation and being prepared. I just wanted to suggest a few things that have helped me save more money. I started making my own cream cheese, sour cream, and yogurt from raw milk. We drink that and have a good source for it but you can also use milk from store if you don’t have a source. Also making your own apple cider vinegar is so easy as well. You probably already know about these things, but just wanted to mention as it has saved me money. I am working on other things such as our own ketchup and mayo next! Thank you for the video!

      I just started making our own mayo this year, and I'm hooked! I use Carolyn's recipe, from the Homesteading Family.....with sauerkraut juice. It's so good!! Your comment about sour cream, yogurt and cream cheese are so true! I really need to make that my priority in 2023. I do have an amazing source for raw milk, and I have no excuses. And look for an ACV video soon! :) Thank you for watching!

    I have replaced all of our cooking/baking oil with lard, nobody can tell the difference, I actually gave my husband a blind taste test with two muffins side by side and he thought it was opposite of which one was lard vs oil, but then said unless you ate them side by side you wouldn’t notice anything different. I do tend to use a little bit less lard then however much oil the recipe calls for.
    We raise our own pigs outdoors and I render the lard myself 👌

    Rumano butter is the only butter I will use now. It is so good and you can REALLY taste the difference with very good quality butter vs. commercial bought butter. Ive purchased 2 boxes on every order this year to store in freezer lol. We place a large Azure order every December and do not order again until April or May (I live in the North and we stay off the roads as much as possible in the harsh winter months) so we stock up before winter hits. I have purchased the dried mushrooms- Pistol River brand- and really enjoy them in various ways. Im known to not use mushrooms soon enough if bought fresh so I enjoy having them on hand for my dinners plus I know in the winter I always have some available. Please review the mushroom soup blend. I have seen it but have not purchased but sounds so good.

    I just have to add another comment. You are so blessed to have Azure Standard! We do not have them in Canada! Many years ago I could order from them when the exchange was closer to par. Alberta has a few drop offs but I don't know how they do it. Also I would suggest you check the ingred on your apple cider vinegar. I was just learning that Bragg's, which was bought out awhile ago now adds water. So I am on a search for a different brand.

    Can I ask why you are fazing out avocado oil? I thought it is a good high smoke point oil to use.

    • @TheHappyHomestead
      @TheHappyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question! Mainly just because it is so highly processed. All oils are....and I'm trying to be very aware of how much and what kind I use. I'm a sucker for a good olive oil....but for high temp cooking, I'll go with lard. For baking, I prefer coconut oil and I like to sub apple sauce for any oil too.

    • @amladao
      @amladao ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHappyHomestead: When using coconut oil do you do a 1:1 ratio? Also what is your ratio for subbing apple sauce? 1:1? Do you use a sweetened or unsweetened apple sauce? Do you use bacon drippings? Where do you get your lard because I heard the store bought ones are mixed with stuff (not pure)?

    • @TheHappyHomestead
      @TheHappyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use home canned unsweetened applesauce, just my preference. And you can use a one to one ratio. But I usually just add enough to get the batter to the right consistency. Most conventional recipes are very oil heavy.

    • @TheHappyHomestead
      @TheHappyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I render our own lard from the pig we get once every 18 months. And I do use bacon drippings, usually for frying up eggs. Check out a local butcher for lard, or local farm. Render yourself for the most pure lard.

    I just made some sauerkraut and bought the lids and weights you recommended. The brine is covering the cabbage but there is no liquid coming up in the plastic thing. Did I do something wrong??

    • @TheHappyHomestead
      @TheHappyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liquid doesn't always come up....sounds like you did it great! I find that some of mine overflow when I fill too high, and the brine is too close to the top. I have 9 half gallons fermenting now, and only 2 are overflowing. So, if you have enough space, you won't have any leaking. The goal is to keep air out....while letting the ferment still breathe.
