Yes, you can add 3 to 87, to get 90 and solve with that. It's also correct, I just wanted us to know how to manipulate our answer to get a positive number when we obtain a negative value.
Whichever way you do it, you will still arrive at the same answer.

Sir we can add 5 to 87 which gives us 90 and 90 is divisible by 5 but this is what happened when I did it.
5x=3 mod 29
5x=3+87(mod 29)
5x÷5=90÷5
x=45 mod 29
And since 45 is greater than 29 we then divide.45÷29=1 r 16.
Therefore x=16 mod 29
I am not sure sir please help me explain. Thank you sir.

Nice try, but there are some corrections
You add 87 to 3 making 90.
5x = (3+87)mod 29
5x/5 = (3+87)/5 mod 29
x = 18 mod 29
