    I was just involved in a wreck in my 2003 Honda Odyssey. Fortunately, it was the other drivers fault and his insurance company will either pay to fix it or total it. It’s not too bad, with just the driver’s door and front fender needing to be replaced. If they want to total it, they will offer me an amount and I will keep car as is. I’ve already located a door and fender the same color in a nearby junkyard in good shape (no dings). I have relatives that live in San Diego, so driving won’t be too big of a problem. I guess that I should put the door and fender on before crossing the border to avoid a long inspection and any tax on the body parts?

    Cute couple. Great video, thanks. Reminds me of when my dad took our family to Mexicali in the '60s to get our car reupholstered, "tuck and roll." Not much has changed. It's a life experience. 🙂

    She looks good. Upgrade your headlights to some projectors with HID. As for Otay Mesa, that crossing can be hell too. It all depends on what day and time. Sunday night, and certain times late at night/EARLY morning weekdays when the people that live in Tijuana but work in San Diego get up early to cross the border and Otay will be packed too.

    Thanks for the vid. I just dropped mine off at Los Panchos last week. Not doing a complete paint job though, removing some severe rocker panel rust and a couple of dents, painting the lower half and the poptop. Heading back down to take some pics and document the process this week. Your tips were helpful.

    Just a heads up, Mexican automotive paint still uses lead unlike USA paint, so be careful if you are going to sand it down in the future to get it repainted.

    I have 2X cars done by them....Ramiro and crew are great. I stripped my cars down to a bare minimum prior to arrival, and made a couple of visits. Like the they say, get your interior out entirely! I trailered my cars down from LA to San Ysidro as almost bare shells....but even driving over in almost a bare car with NO glass at all, the inspection crossing the border was no issue. Be prepared to remove overspray. Go AND VISIT as your car is in progress......gaps in communication can be over come easily that way.

    Nice bus bro !! I have a question , I wanted to take a car as well to get painted , do the border patrol ask any questions about the car being a different color than when it went in ?? Would they charge tax ?? And how long can I leave the car in Mexico is there any rules I need to go by ?

    • @jeremypritchett2740
      @jeremypritchett2740  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No questions were asked when I went in to MX. They stopped me just to look inside probably for drugs but when they saw it was stripped down they just let me pass on in. There was a tax on some of the car parts when I walked them in. I took them in a roller suitcase and they scanned it and saw car parts. They charged me a 15% tax to take car parts in. I dont know of any rules of how long you can leave a car down there for, you will need to research that one. Good luck!

    How’s the paint holding? I painted my van there two years ago and overall I’m happy. They did a great job on the welding, welded new panels and other areas. There are a lot of tiny chips though. They look like rock chips but I doubt is from the rocks. I’m not sure if they did a good prep job before applying finish coat. I have another van that I’m planning on bringing there but they have increased prices significantly.

    Thanks, this answers a lot of questions. Unfortunately I don't live close and would have to drive/fly- fly/drive but it is hard to find anyone who want tackle seam rust in my area. Do they hassle you at the border if you drive across and walk back over border ? Also, my van is quite expensive ( Syncro/Subaru ) , how is their security? Lastly, is it difficult to get for Los Panchos to border, border to SD airport?

    I am considering going down to Baja to have my car painted. Before I go, I would like to find out info on a shop that I think would be a good choice. How can I find out if they have any consumer complaints and how can I verify their license? I have tried unsuccessfully to find a automotive repair consumer protection agency in MEX? Does anyone reading this know of one, maybe similar to the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair and the BBB? Is it reasonable to ask that the contract be produced in English? If the work is guaranteed, what language/details should I look for in the contract? Basically, I am wondering how repair contracts work and what I should be aware of before I have the work done. This would be my first repair trip in MEX and I want to prevent the risk of being ripped off as has happened to me with shops in the US. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this.

    Man. With all the issues of your windows installed wrong, overspray etc. I don't think $3,300 is much of a bargain. Compared to a top quality US shop yes but for comparable quality like a back yard body and paint guy. Hell you may have faired similar at a local Macco. If there was was someone close by who had autobody experience but does it on the side or in his garage I think it could have been done for less and better quality stateside. Then theres the cost of going down there plus the risk involved. I dunno. I'd consider going if it was worth it but hell no for gringo prices & shoddy craftsmanship.
