    Ooooh man, I was really big into Old fire emblem growing up and this sounds like a nice evolution of the formula. I especially love the natural balance of character classes rather than the frustrating rock paper scissors of weapon types. To steal your line 'this is my jaaaaaam!'

    I've put a few hours into the game and I think you've nailed the reasons I love it.
    (I really should continue playing but man, there are so many things to do.)

    This game is amazing. I thought I was beyond getting those "just one more turn obsessions" but apparently not. You summed up the reasons why this is such a great game very well. I can't stop playing it. I would say Symphony of War and Gears Tactics are my two favourite games of the last 5 years.

    hey, i beat you to a game for once. i'm always on the lookout for scratching my ogre battle 64 itch. this didn't *quite* hit that, but was close enough to be satisfying. plus as a tall buff woman myself it's satisfying to see representation in a game

    You mentioned Tactics Ogre, but to my eye this looks much closer to the original Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. The squad-based army mechanics are nearly identical, and there are other elements as well that I haven't seen since OB:MotBQ. very cool looking game

    0:16 "I've been playing a Fire-Emblem-like that can't stop putting down"... That doesn't sound too good!

    Neat. Reminds me of Langrisser / Warsong. With a name like that, no doubt they pulled some inspiration.

    I have to say, this is the best indie turn based strategy I've ever play, and it's on par with any old popular TBS titles out there. It's rare because not many indie dev like to make turn based strategy like Fire Emblem, or Tactic.

    Seems cool and might get me to actually play a tactics game after Rondo of Swords basically ruined all other games in the genre when I realized that it was the only game I'd played where if I just gave semi reasonable commands asap. a battle would end one way or another within 5 minutes instead of taking half an hour.

    theres a reason why there is no pop up help. cause its already in the game. in your menu inbetween the maps. its in tutorials. even bit of info you need is there. its there so when you play again you dont have pop ups slowing the game down or annoying you. problem is people see the word "tutorial" and people tend to treat that like the plague. so the no pop up is so when you play again your not just trying to hit the skip button over and over and you are start in game, also if you forgot something you can go back and look at it when ever you want. pop ups dont do that, once they are gone they are gone.

      Ogre Battle influences aside, it's definitely looking to capture the magic of the older titles in the series, yes!

    Symphony of War is completely delightful. The squad building was such fun, and the visuals give me that 90's nostalgia that I love. It's too bad the story was sugary pudding.

      It's heavily inspired by the Ogre Battle series (Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen & Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber). That's where the 3x3 squad-based combat derives from, although OB's maps don't take place on a grid, but rather with units traveling across the map in real time towards destinations you assign.

  • @XpVersusVista

    "heavy infantry MELTS under ranged fire". Wait, so exactly the opposite of what was historically their point? lol
    Hollywood makes people believe heavy infantry was the equivalent of space marines walking through 100 enemy fighters unscathed cutting them all down, but in reality a knight vs 10 farmers would lose if they have been suficiently trained, because they can just make him fall over. Give both sides however 10 archers, and the farmers simply die to the archers, while the heavy infantry simply doesn't care because arrows can't do shit to plate armor.

    • @fishyfinthing8854
      @fishyfinthing8854 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      actually, it's true. Heavy infantry is not weak against arrow. It come down to who get the first attack.
      The real armor weaknesses in this game are magic and gun.

    Your intro seems... contradictory to the rest of the review/the game itself. What part of this game exactly is more accessible and easier on a busy adult than fire emblem, much less Three Houses?

    • @joncliffmckinley5868
      @joncliffmckinley5868 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you arent called upon to complete multiple scenarios, each 40-50hrs

    • @AndouHarvey
      @AndouHarvey หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, put simply, it takes quicker to get to the fun part. Speaking from experience, modern Fire Emblem just feels impenetrable to me because I don't have 20 hours to burn just to get to the fun part. So Symphony of War makes it easier for people who just love tactics games but dont want to sit through the millionth backstory of prettyboy no. 1265

    • @AndouHarvey
      @AndouHarvey หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok I was being purposefully inflammatory in my previous reply, but it IS true. Sometimes, a selling point for some is a barrier to entry for others. Fire Emblem's selling point is its numerous complex characters that take hours to really get to know, but some people just aren't interested in that, and it becomes a slog you have to sit through before you get to the part you enjoy

    • @DoggyP00
      @DoggyP00 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AndouHarvey I didn't really take it as inflammatory don't worry...
      I guess ONE game went the regular jrpg route of taking a while to get fun... but don't say "modern fire emblem" just say you didn't like 3 Houses.
      Your second point doesn't make any sense lol.
      Your second comment isn't even trying to make your own argument. You're literally just saying you personally prefer Symphony of War. It has nothing to do with how accessible it is to anybody. You're also still describing ONE game. Again, just say you didn't like 3 Houses.
      You're allowed to like the game. I never said anything negative about it in the first place. But the fact of the matter is that this review only makes arguments that say that it is harder for busy adults to get into than fire emblem.

    Wow... That's a first. "50 hours to beat 1 route. Who has that much time to play video games?" First time I'm ever hearing a reviewer complain about "too much content". Get out of here. God forbid a game gives you it's money's worth of content. Couldn't even finish your video after you said that.
