Capability Brown was an outstanding landscape Gardner. He is responsible for the most iconic English landscapes. He literally moved hills of soil to create the wonderful vistas we have today.
Just found you guys through Mark Masterson’s reaction to this video. Never heard of the Cotswold Walk before. So beautiful. Might walk it one day. Thanks for the inspiration. Will ‘accompany’ for the rest of this trip.
I once ( three times in fact ) walked 42 miles over the North Yorkshire Moors in 12 hours ( The Lyke Wake Walk ). It was hard going. A Hundred miles in a day would be very hard going.
Hello both , we are fairly local and we walk every year for Charity. This year its the Cotswold Way - so thanks for your insights and happy trails ! Wes and Steph.
Good video and good weather!. I grew up in the area and have done most of the Cotswold way as day walks. The walls are dry stone walls and you get them all over the UK. The colour varies depending on the local stone.
My husband and I first walked the Cotswold Way in 1997 before it became a National Trail. We have since walked it 5 times over the years and will be walking it again in May this year, for the 6th time to celebrate entering our 70"s... We also used Cotswold Walks, they are fantastic and have used them for other walks as well. I came across your video and have to say it is the best realistic video of this walk I have seen , especially if you have never walked long distances before...we were the same as you when we did it the first time and it was done in 5 days!!! We now take much longer to be able to really enjoy the scenery, pubs and the people. So glad you both enjoyed it, we loved watching you and knowing that in a month or so we will be walking it again. Well Done!!!
I walked up Dover hill with my Dad in 1993. He's passed on now, but it's great to see you walk the same path to Broadway tower. It brings back happy memories. Blessings and thanks.
Definitely a picturesque trail. Cotswold stone houses. Small villages. Rolling hills................and finishing outside Bath Cathedral..........after passing some of the most famous architectural sights in Bath. Enjoy
I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your trip! I heard about 'Cotswold Way' and decided to google it for fun. After founding out what it was, I asked my wife if she's keen to do a 100mi multi day walk in the UK next time we visit 😂 Watching this video has just confirmed that we HAVE to do it
We really enjoyed your videos. We started because we live there, and have done a lot of walking but not the Cotswold Way. You have shown us places to go, so thanks. But also, you did not sugar coat it, and that was partly amusing and partly relief to see others feeling how I feel at times.
...exactly what I was going to say. In the north of England we call those fruit Brambles. Great on cereal/porridge or on puddings, or used to make Bramble jam or jelly.
Oh I remember now, after a catastrophically wet August, we did have a mini heat wave at the beginning of September. Just after the kids went back to school.
August wasn’t wet down in the Cotswolds last year. We have pretty sunny and good weather in the summer, sunny weather is not unusual at all in Summer down here! Winter is another matter, rain every day!
Gloucestershire Cotswold resident here and I have to say I really liked this video. You were so lucky with the weather! I've done the Cotswold Way myself but not in one go, over 3 weekends so 6 days walking. It's so beautiful and is "England at it's best" which used to be the motto of Gloucestershire County Council! I'll watch the rest of your vids and probably comment on all.
@@samuelbarrett9403 Oh right. I live in the Cotswolds and I can assure you that for almost the entirety of July and August the weather was cool, grey, cloudy and rainy. It literally broke to sunshine (for a week only) on 1 September. So they were indeed, very lucky.

@@samuelbarrett9403 That's why the week they had was not normal you ignoramus. July was appalling, August was slightly better but still bad. It literally broke to warm and sunny the day they started. So it wasn't "normal weather in the Cotswolds" because the normal weather was horrible for weeks beforehand, as it often is. I suppose you think the weather we're having today is normal decent spring weather too.
Really enjoyed watching this, I am planning to run it this Monday day over 2 days it was really helpful to see the terrain and your feedback, thanks :-)

Dry stone walls are made by choosing key stones with flat faces each side, they are infilled as they are built with smaller stones and soil to level off the key stones and fill the gap. They have been built this way for 100s of years. They can last hundreds of years, with the odd spot repairs.

We book with Contours when we're walking other parts of the UK, similar self-guided but rooms booked in inns and pubs, with porterage. New subscriber.
