2024 UPMAS Outstanding in Community Service and Public Health Award: Dr. FRANCIS B. DAYTEC, JR.

The 2024 UPMAS Award for Outstanding Community Service and Public Health is given to Dr. Francis B. Daytec, Jr. (Class 1999) for dedicating his life to serving the people of Oriental Mindoro as community physician and missionary. For more than two decades now, Dr. Daytec provided care for the indigenous Mangyan tribal people as founder, president, and full-time volunteer physician of Tanglaw Wholeness Ministry, a non-profit that provides free medical and maternity care, education, feeding, empowerment, training, and healing for the Mangyan people of Mindoro. He and his team focus on each individual holistically; giving care to the body, mind, soul and spirit. Dr. Francis and his team regularly hike into remote mountainous villages to provide medical care and health education for the most marginalized, vulnerable, underserved, and at-risk in the community. Dr. Francis’ goal in all he does is to embody the love and hope of Jesus to the poor, sick, broken, and oppressed, and through loving and serving them well, to lead them to the greatest Physician of all.
