  • The entry level XK X6 6 channel computerized transmitter (radio), offers amazing bang & performance for the buck. Here's my full review of this low cost, yet very capable RC radio system.
    The X6 boasts Futaba's S-FHSS protocol, all the main programming menus needed for setting up a modern day collective pitch RC helicopter, high contrast & back-lit LCD display and one higher end feature that really surprised me.
    Let's have a close up look so you can decide if this might be good first radio system to get if you're just getting into the exciting world of collective pitch RC helicopters.

      I tried to pair this with omphobby M2 but cant get it right. It pairs successfully and M2 recognizes the switches, but i cant get the swashplate to level enough to take off safely in 6g mode. Is there way to factory reset the transmitter?

    I just ordered the K110 RTF with this radio today. Very useful info shown here. I really like the large heli features in a micro sized heli such as rotary servos, BL main motor ( I ordered a BL tail motor as well). I like that you went inside the radio as I come from a technical background. I can really appreciate the value packed into such a low cost TX. I'm looking forward to getting my K110, but in the meantime, I'm flying everyday on my Nano S3.

    Good news guys: It is indeed an 8 channel transmitter!
    I just confirmed it by testing it with a cheap Corona R8SF reciever.
    How: Mount switches in the two empty switch locations in the transmitter's front and connect them to the 2 empty ports on the main board. Now you have channel 7 and channel 8 that can be used for aircraft lights and landing gear respectively (or whatever you want).
    Note: The XK X6 pairs just fine with the cheap non-Futaba Corona R8SF receiver.
    Conclusion: You pay a really low price for a 6 channel transmitter, but you get 8 channels.
    Not bad.
    (I bought 2 XK6, cheap as they are, and used one as a spare parts kit. The "new" switches are from the "spare").
    PS! Great reviews John!
    As a newbie to RC Helis (and a commercial pilot license holder on 3 continents for the real ones) I've learnt a big deal from you. Appreciate it!
    And believe me, learning to fly these small bastards is way more tricky than learning to fly the "real stuff"

    You sold me on the XK110 RTF! Thanks for the indepth videos! This is exactly what I needed; I haven't flown RC for many years and I don't have a TX (I have a busted DX6i, the original). I've been looking into various options for a TX, but it's been so long that I don't know if I can still fly small CP helis. Not being able to use a Sim makes it that much harder to drop $250 on a TX just to see if I even remember my orientations and hover my old MCpX around lol. I also have a bunch of micros from when I was in the hobby (MCpX, 130X, MCpX BL, and some UMX planes and Quads). Due to a house fire most of my hobby stuff melted (except the micros X-() including my Gaui X5, broke my heart- only test flew it twice! I'll use your link in gratitude. If I like the heli and can still fly, then I'll consider jumping back in head first with a new DX8 and a bigger heli (Trex 250?)
    Thanks again!

  • @user-dq5xx9hi4q
    @user-dq5xx9hi4q 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Better than most RTF transmitters that come with aircraft. With proper open-gimbal sticks you have much more feel of stick position with the X6, while the toy-grade ones which almost always have a dome-shaped cover over the cheap gimbal mechanism tend to go numb-feeling once you move the sticks off center. This is due to them only having one spring to support both axis's on each stick. Once one axis compresses the spring there is nothing to keep the perpendicular axis centered, and so it just goes limp as if there were no spring at all. Spektrum's MLP6 is one example of TX's with these horrible controls. Your E-sky sample is another.
    My Xk X450 and X520 VTOLs both use transmitters with the same full-size case and sticks as the X6 and feel very nice in-hand and in operation. Good stuff.

    Your content is awesome. The radio is super easy to figure out. My particular one came with the Xk K130. Even though I crashed the K130 twice (my fault, inexperienced with CP helicopter stuff), the radio was working fine.
    More practice!!! Anywho, it works good, good enough that I have a Xk K100, another K130, Eachine E160 and Yu Xiang F1.

      The TX16S (RM or ECHN) offers great bang for the buck - no question. But as I always ask anyone who asks me my opinion on them... "are you aware & ready for the OpenTX learning curve?" OK, so, you're only the best most knowledgeable teacher and technician out there! I'm VERY new to this but have been seriously bitten by the RC Heli and FPV drone bug. I have a couple mini heli's and a FPV drone. I want to purchase the XK K110 RTF you've reviewed. I have a Blade Nano 2S RTF but find the controls extremely touchy making it difficult to handle in 3D mode. I know I can fly 3D in that I have a Real Flight simulator and can fly on that pretty well. What is your suggestion for taming the XK down to make it easier to handle when I get that? Keep the reviews coming, absolutely great!!!

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, I cover the basics of a tame setup in the review I did on the K110: th-cam.com/video/2yIB2-KSZyk/w-d-xo.html
      As I said in that review, I strongly suggest learning correctly off the bat with no self level help turned on. Only use that as a last resort.
      I also mention the tame dual rate output settings I was using for all 3 dual rate channels both during the indoor hover training and outdoor normal flying.
      Taming any CP heli down for learning on also requires taming the pitch and throttle curves. This is too much info to cover in a short response or even a video. That is why I wrote an eBook on collective pitch setup: www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-tips.html
      That eBook is based on the exact same setups I used as an RC heli instructor. It has helped thousands of collective pitch newbies successfully tame down their birds for learning on and then progressing on.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep, I noticed that too. Doubtful you could add more channels by simply adding a couple more toggles. XK does have the X8 radio, so I suspect they share the same case and board. The firmware in the X6 certainly won't support 8ch since there is only programming control (reverse, sub-trim & travel range) for 6 channels .

    Thanks John for all of your helpful content! Does this radio's gyro setting only affect cyclic gyro, and not the tail gyro?

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ethan, gyro gain or stabilization selection is a function of the flybarless system, not the radio system. You can therefore have channel 5 output control whatever you wish. With all of XK's little micro helis, like most of today's collective pitch micros, that selection turns auto-level stabilization in the flybarless system on or off. All micro helis like these don't have any remote tail gain, it is set within the flybarless system. On larger RC heli FBL systems however that have remote tail gain option, you could have channel 5 change the tail gyro gain. I cover this in more detail on my "stabilization explained" video: th-cam.com/video/LouYitd7jak/w-d-xo.html

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without seeing it in person, my best guess is a centering spring is on the throttle axis or the tension band is not tight enough (and no it shouldn't feel like that). You want butter smooth collective stick movement with no centering. As to how to correct for it. Again, depending on what the exact issue is, will determine how it's fixed. You'll have to open it up and diagnose the problem. If it is a centering spring, it will have to be removed. If it's just a loose tension band, the band tension will have to be increased.

    • @FrontierNG
      @FrontierNG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did not know about multiple dual rate settings per channel. That was the biggest eye-opener for me in this video. I always thought that something was wrong with how I tuned the servo connecting rods, on a K110, or the tail rotor when one way would move faster than the other.
    Were you able to find a setting for the deadzone of the sticks? I have to move the stick about 1/8" for an input to register regardless of any positive EXP setting. Ideally I'd like to halve or quarter the deadzone size.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way to effectively eliminate dead band around center stick with a basic, entry level computerized radio like this. Yes, you could use high amounts of expo, but then control is horribly lopsided (super aggressive off center, almost dead out at the ends). The only way to effectively cure dead band is with programmable output curves for your cyclic & tail channels. I did a video on the process, but with a more advanced radio: th-cam.com/video/5H0z_LBrBRc/w-d-xo.html

      You can to get your "Base" setup that way - certainly, but because helicopters are very mechanical and have slightly different servo centering points & linkage geometries, you still have to fine-tune your setup for each helicopter.

      @Rchelicopterfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, just as I said in the video; provided the BNF helis you get in the future use Futaba's S-FHSS protocol. You can't for example bind a Blade helicopter to the X6 because Blade uses Spektrum DSM protocol.

      As stated in the review, the X6 uses Futaba's S-FHSS 2.4 GHz spread spectrum protocol. It will therefor only work with receivers/models that also use Futaba S-FHSS protocol. As I have no idea what protocol a Marlin EDF uses - no idea with it. It most certainly won't work with the Spektrum AS3X stabilization systems since they use Spektrum's DSM2/DSMX protocol.

    Hi John. Thanks for the video. I got this radio with the purchase of the xk k110 micro heli. It is nice. I wonder if you know of some easy hack to dim the blue power indicator LED and the white back light on the bottom display. It is too bright for the comfort of the eyes and I suspect it may be the cause of the battery draining quick fast.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The current draw from the LED is miniscule. As for a way to dim it, soldering in a resistor is about the only way I know to do it, but since the LED is likely direct soldered to the main board, that would not be an easy task, but not impossible if you are good at soldering and perhaps mucking about with the PCB traces. A piece of electrical tape over the LED would be easier :) No way I know of to dim the LCD backlight, but at least it turns off.

    Dear John I have the k124 with this radio . After I watching your video "RC Helicopter Stabilization Explained" now i have doubt related this radio . It is clear to me that to learn is better to do not use any self leveling.
    Now with this radio looks to me that the difference between 6G and 3D is the setting on a value called gyro on the radio (Gyro25 with switch on 3D and Gyro75 on 6G) .
    Here your suggestion is to keep always switch on 3D as it is ? Any sense to play with the gyro set ?
    Now If I keep the switch on 6G and I change the gyro set at 25 is it the same as to simple move the switch to 3D ?

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @dgiky - Stabilization mode selection on the K124 (like most small micro collective pitch helicopters) is selected with Channel 5 output. In one output direction, it's set to normal gyro mode (unfortunately called 3D mode by marketing buzz-word nonsense). In the other direction, it's in auto/self level mode (6G - also marketing buzz-word nonsense).
      So depending on what position the CH5 toggle is in, will put the FBL system into either normal gyro or self level mode; it's basically as simple as that and the X6 radio has no issue doing it.
      I cover this in more detail in the review I did on the K124: th-cam.com/video/0KhbglD9fIM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6Fk7cNEfdMTccHKW
      The Stabilization Mode LED on all of XK's helis will be blinking red when in normal gyro mode, solid red when in self level mode; that is how you confirm correct operation.
      Any further technical questions, best to contact me through my website since I often don't see follow-up YT comments.

      Correct, just like Futaba, the X6 uses negative expo to reduce mid stick travel output. It's also fairly easy to check on any radio if you are ever unsure. Just dial in a large expo value such as + or - 60% and watch how much servo movement you get around mid stick. It's easy to tell if your radio uses a negative or positive expo value to reduce mid stick response with that test.

      If you replaced the tail motor and you have no channel 4 (tail rotor channel), that sounds like an issue with the heli, not the radio. I have no idea if the radio has a reset, but I can't see that being the problem. The only way to correctly diagnose the radio of course would be to try it with another model. Perhaps the wiring to the tail motor or the tail motor MOSFET circuit also crapped out along with the tail motor? Are you getting any tail motor life at all? Ie. manually yaw the heli left and right (with it spooled up slowly) to see if the tail motor spins up and slows down as the tail gyro tries to counter & correct the yaw?

      @@Rchelicopterfun Probably best to note that XK (and its associate WLToys) uses/used a whole heap of different protocols - more on its planes than helis. Futaba S-FHSS on these XK K1??series helis and XK A600/430 planes. The XK A1?0 series planes use the orphan WLToys V911s heli protocol. (WLToys V911 uses Flysky!) The XK A800 uses KN protocol as does the stabilized WLToys F959s. (The non-stabilized WLToys F959/949 planes use Flysky.) The XK X420/520 V-tols and the XK X450 multi-modes each use an orphan Futaba S-FHSS variant specific to each and not compatible with this standard S-FHSS radio. I'm not conversant with older XK quads but I believe there were variations there also.
      Still a great Tx for the price though and with say a little S-BUS satellite receiver like the Eachine E119 heli add-on you get 300 meters of quality control on things like the OMPHobby T/S720 planes or anything else with an S-BUS input port.

      I cover all this in my Setup & Tips ebook: www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-tips.html
      And in my online flight school on my site: www.rchelicopterfun.com/how-to-fly-rc-helicopters.html
      Quick answer is, no you don't need a symmetrical collective range for flying normal or scale flight on any collective pitch RC helicopter. However, once you progress from basic hover training to flying micro CP helis at speed (i.e. they are experiencing translational lift), then you do need a bit of negative so they don't get lofted (at least when flying outdoors where there is wind and thermals).
      Pitch curves and throttle curves go hand in hand. You generally change both together dependent on how much head speed/power is required for a specific pitch range along with flying style.
      This of course just scratches the surface of CP setup for various flying styles, but that's the best I can do in a several sentence YT comment.

      I said the XK X6 radio uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol. So any model or receiver that also uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol will communicate. As for if it will work with a X360 if you get a S-FHSS RX for it... That is dependent on the FBL system you pair with it. Some need 7 channels in which case, this wouldn't work. Also, would you trust a low cost entry level radio with a 360 size machine? Only you can decide that. I know a few who are using the XK X6 with 360/450 size machines - I've only used it on micro size stuff up to 200 size (OMP M2) for a customer.

      Stabilization mode selection on the E180 is through channel 5. Channel 5 on the X6 is the front left toggle switch. Not sure what "settings" with that stabilization mode selection you are referencing? There are no settings with stabilization mode selection. Self level is either on or off - which is what that channel 5 two position toggle switch provides. A shorter PWM pulse width in one position around 1000 us and a longer one in the other position around 2000 us. In one position it will turn the accelerometers on in the FBL unit, in the other it will turn them off so you are left with normal gyro stabilization. If the toggle position selection is backwards from what you want, then reverse channel 5 in the channel reverse programming menu.

      @@Rchelicopterfun Thanks John, OK understood, also since the question I found the switch should be set to 25% or 75% which when you flip the switch it is, I guess really what I wasn't certain of was that switch fitted just for that function, other controllers I have you can select switches, and then in that case I guess the question would be, if you had a blank switch what would you need to set it to, 25 /75 surely is not enough info for the controller...? Doesn't matter what output level is use, as long as the unit sees one output on one side of center (50%) and another on the other side. 40% & 60% would likely even work. I cover this in a recent video I made on stabilization modes: th-cam.com/video/LouYitd7jak/w-d-xo.html

      This radio as mentioned in the video uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol. I have no idea what protocol the RX in the 150X TA uses. If it uses S-FHSS, this radio will work, if it doesn't it won't.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As stated in the review, the XK X6 radio/transmitter uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol (the 2.4 gHz digital coded language it uses to talk to the receiver onboard the aircraft). The only way it would would work with a receiver, is if that receiver also uses S-FHSS protocol. Unless you know for certain that is what kind of receiver is in your specific helicopter, this radio would not work with it.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  ปีที่แล้ว

      @finlay Not annoying at all IMO. Blade (Horizon Hobby) has always used Spektrum DSM protocol in their bind & fly helicopters; largely having the proper hobby grade BNF micro heli/radio market to themselves. It was long overdue that Futaba's S-FHSS protocol is now also being offered in this market segment. Not only does it give us many more heli & plane offerings from various manufacturers, the pricing is almost always better.
      Personally, I like options and having another good and popular protocol choice is a win over the time we were forced into Spektrum's DSM protocols if we wanted a protocol we could grow with. Regardless, if you want to fly Blade product, the solution is simple, get a Spektrum DSM protocol computerized radio. Personally having flown both the Nano and the 110, less than 2" difference in rotor diameter is barely detectable regardless of flying environment; but if you think the Nano is a better fit, then you'll need to get a DSM protocol radio from either Spektrum, or go the multi-protocol route. 🙂

    • @finlay422
      @finlay422 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rchelicopterfun Thanks for your reply. I was thinking about picking up a DX7, but maybe i should spend some more and get a multi-protocol radio, do you have any suggestions? or do you know of any good micros that are smaller than the k110 that use Fatuba protocol? Thanks again :)

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @finlay The only other micro CP heli I know that uses S-FHSS protocol that is actually a closer comparison to the Blade Nano (brushed coreless main motor), is the XK100, but it's the same size as the K110 I believe so that's of no help if you want something even smaller.
      As for multi-protocol radios, basically any higher end computerized radio that has a JR module bay in the back that you can fit the multi-module into. This can work with ppm or serial interface with the module. Serial interface is the best to easily access all the protocols and features. Most of these radios usually run Open/Edge TX open source operating systems such as some FrSky's, RadioMaster, Jumper and Turnigy 9X.
      This of course is a massive learning curve getting into such systems. The best place to start your journey into the powerful world of open source Multi-Protocol and/or Open/Edge are these sites which will explain the basics of how it all works.
      Multi-Protocol: www.multi-module.org/
      OpenTX: www.open-tx.org/
      EdgeTX: edgetx.org/
      I also made a video on this topic last year: th-cam.com/video/w33syhcWsHM/w-d-xo.html
      If all that seems too daunting and you are still thinking a Blade Nano will be a big improvement over the K110, then you are going Spektrum Radio shopping. 🙂
