Absolutely amazing, incredible his chops .... but even more impressive, how he respects the tradition, but at same time infuses his own new sounding licks
Ahhh, thank you so much, Greg! I really appreciate the kind words! I actually just released an online guitar course that dives in to a lot of the stuff I play in this. Here’s the link if you’re interested: bigmusictentschool.teachable.com/p/bigmusictentcourses Thanks again!!
jmdbb thank you very much! Yeah, I use Nickel Bronze (13-56, mediums) on this one too. The strings on this guitar are super old...definitely need a fresh set. Haha!
@@TreyAHensley Thanks! I gave a set a try on a mahogany dreadnought and was prepared to dislike them due to my earlier experiences with Monels but I really liked them. Kind of a happy medium between monels and PBs. Thanks for the response!
How in the hell is Billy Strings getting more recognition than Trey???? Trey would grind him to dust then keep him in a baggie. Freezer storage zip lock
I can play a few chords and pick a bit. Voice is not good, the ear, to hear it and put it down is just as bad. But the ear is good to like what I hear. Onyer Trey - thanks Mate.
I like your style and voice. But I never heard it called a “hollow”.....that’s kinda city talk. Back in the hills we always called it a “ holler”. Don’t forget your roots, Lorettas music went downhill for a lot of folks when Nashville made her loose her accent. I reckon it depends on which audience you wanna react. Too many soy boys in mom jeans on the radio nowadays. I like your music, your a good picker.
Thanks for the kind words...this is an old bluegrass standard. I come from East Tennessee and the only time I call a holler a “hollow” is when I do this song. I learned it from Bill Monroe. He said “dark hollow”, so that’s what I say. Ain’t lost my accent, but I do sing this song as close as I can to all the other (very country) bluegrass singers that sang it. Thanks again!
Im Clarence whites grandson and i think you did awesome!! Thank you for the ear candy!!!
Ahhh thank you very much! Clarence is one of my biggest heroes for sure! Great to hear from you!
One of the few musicians I the world that could win vocalists of the year and guitar Player of the year.
LOL THE END!! Amazing.
This is amazing Trey! Just learned this song in a C position, gotta try it with that drop D! Thanks for always inspiring me!
Son, lay that guitar down it’s on fire 🔥. Some hot pickin there.. good singing too

I missed one picking segment. That part at the start until the end. AMAZING!
One of my favorite songs. I’m trying to play it similar to the way Clarence played it. Awesome version Trey.
Amazing guitar playing and singing right there. Some of the best flat picking I’ve ever seen.
Dang son! Absolutely awesome!!👍
Could literally listen to this all day on an endless loop. Well done sir!
Thanks for the Best live sound, 😊
Clarence was the 🐐
Took a quick look around to listen to the original, cause I didn't know this tune. Came back to listen again to the best version so far.

Definitely influenced by Merle. Love it.
‘Atta boy!!! Fucking get it!
Hey man not sure if you still have this guitar? If so, I’d love to know what number it is. I’ve got #698
Hey! I do still have this guitar…it’s one of the Brazilian models. I have the last one of those… #150 of #150
What guitar is that
It’s a Martin Clarence White Signature Brazilian D-28. Limited to 150 guitars...mine is 150 of 150.
JUST SO HOT!!!
Do you use Nickel Bronze on this guitar too? Great playing as always!

It isn't a competition. Billy holds his own quite well.
I wish I could see more of the clouds and less of the soffit
