This was the Kennedy Center Honors 2012. Anne Wilson's voice is the female equivalent of Robert Plants voice. NO ONE else could have done this justice for Led Zeppelin. I cried it was so beautiful. The drummer, Jason Bonham, is the son of the original drummer John Bonham, who passed away and the band ended. Robert Plant was so moved, he was crying. In fact, I think they all were. Heart is still touring. This tribute was all about how much Led Zeppelin is loved. Even the President of the United States at the time and his wife were in attendance: Barack & Michelle Obama. They gave these awards to Led Zeppelin for their contribution to music.
Robert Plant had asked Jason Bonham if he was going to this award show, he said he was sorry he couldn’t make it…. And he totally surprised the guys 🥁🥁 Ann & Nancy were so incredible, had Robert shedding a few tears, and Jimmy Page & John Paul J were having such a good time watching the different musicians brings their song to life right in front of them 🥰🎸🥁 The bowler hats Jason wore & the choirs as well were a tribute to the late Drummer John Bonham 🕵🏼!! One of the best tributes at the Kennedy Centre ☮️🎸🥁
Jason Bonham on drums. Several facts you might be interested in 1). Robert is Jason’s godfather. John Bonham was Roberts closest snd dearest friend. Jason and Robert are close. And of course Jimmy and JPJ have known Jason since he was in diapers 2). The band had invited Jason to be with them for the tribute, in honor of his father, but Jason said he could not because he had a gig in LA. So it was a complete shock to the guys when Jason walked out on the stage. ( He was introduced when he walked out on the stage but you evidently missed that.) 3) Jason has his own Zeppelin tribute band which is excellent. I’ve seen them live snd they ROCK. If they tour near you, Molly, you should go see them. They must come to Birmingham occasionally? 4). Robert has said that he was crying for several reasons. Of course, he still misses his friend John so much and wished he could have been there with them. But he said that he was emotional also because he felt out of time and place: They sang that song as young men who thought of themselves as rebels. And Robert was definitely a hippie in his heart. So in his mind, he was remembering how optimistic we had all been then…all that promise,,, and how it had all been lost. He was feeling the loss of what could have been. Sadness, nostalgia. And wondering how in hell he and this song he wrote the lyrics for when he was 23, , had ended up at a fancy gala in 2012 with The President of the US. The old man looking back at his youth and wondering “how did I end up here”. He shared all these thoughts in an interview on a Canadian podcast I watched several years ago. This performance is as good as it gets!
You have to watch this whole Tribute Concert, some amazing performances!!!!!!
Let the emotion flow, that’s what music is for.
I dont think he even noticed they started with the small choir then when the song ramped up they lifted the back drop and that huge choir kicked in making this probably the best version anyone will ever see/hear of the song. Heart was always the best at covering Led Zeppelin, they did it all through their career. EPIC PERFORMANCE.
I’m 53 and started subscribing to your channel recently. I love seeing younger folks discovering not only the original Stairway to Heaven, but this AWESOME tribute version by Heart. Great reaction, dude!
I also like the cover of “ Immigrant Song” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Check out the vid of Ann Wilson doing it!
One of the Best Covers Ever!
EPIC Classic tribute to the greatest rock band ever!!
Led Zeppelin 🎵🎷🎸
Robert and the guys asked Jason Bonham to join them for this concert not knowing he was going to be IN the concert playing his Dads drums mind you. Jason had to 'decline ' saying he had another engagement he had to attend he couldnt miss.
So they were surprised and happy to see him.
This was a brilliant performance.
Good reaction😊
Get some rest!
Robert & John Bonham were the closest of the band members. They were in band together before Zeppelin. Robert had a son that died from stomach virus in 1977.While the rest of the band stay in Los Angeles during a tour John flew back to England w/ Robert to console the family.Robert tears up because John wasnt there to celebrate with them. Glad you're feeling better
Jason is Robert's Godson.
You don't have to apologize to not be here all the time. We all have lives outside of you-tube & internet, so it's the same for you. Glad to see you back & have a nice day.
Kennedy center tributes are awesome, famous artists honoring others, some that were honored, sting, billy joel ,elton john, bruce springsteen, paul simon , paul mccartney, all worth listening 👍
Recommend checking these 2 amazing ladies Live in Seattle. Nancy’s beautiful vocals let her shine in ‘These Dreams’ and Ann blows you away with ‘Alone’ ❤
Couldn't agree more. The performance of both songs is awesome. That live version of These Dreams is better than the album version. ❤️
Now you know why people suggest this to see and hear. So powerful. Watching the guys get teared up and enjoying every note. Seeing the back choir all wearing bowler hats. Imagine being the guitarist and having to do a Jimmy's solo in front of him, and also looking a bit like Jim Parsons, Sheldon, from Big Bang theory. Such an emotional video for many.
Ann at 62 and Nancy at 58 when the Kennedy Center honored Led Zeppelin in 2012. Some people have really good genes. Beautiful and ageless… incredible
You will get goosebumps every time you watch this! Pure talent all around ❤
I cried like a damn fool when I heard this. 😭
Bro you gotta check out hearts song with Layne Staley “Ring them bells”
Wow I never knew that existed cool...as a female in her 60's I wasn't a big Heart fan...but add Layne can't go wrong right ? 💚🖤
Ann was a PERFECT choice to honor them!! Phenomenal!!
I told you! Heart also covered Zep’s Battle of Evermore. Jason Bonham is the son of the late John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin
This was one of my all time favorite Kennedy Center Honors performance. ❤
Jason Bonham on drums, like his dad, and the choir wearing the hats that John Bonham wore
That was by far the best tribute song ever done. Heart still rocks. I saw the amazement in your eyes as you watched that. Thank you for posting this.
Wishing Ann a speedy recovery after undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
