- I remember first hearing Stairway To Heaven almost 8 months ago now and thinking what a truly unique and powerful song it was. It was only a few weeks ago that I realised Heart had done a tribute to Led Zeppelin by performing Stairway To Heaven LIVE at Kennedy Honors Centre. Heart are a band that I still haven't heard much from but I do know they are great musicians and I am looking forward to diving deeper into their stuff!
Here is my reaction to hearing Heart - Stairway To Heaven Live At Kennedy Honors Center for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

Ann Wilson was asked what it was like to perform this in front of Zeppelin. She said "it was like reading the Bible to Jesus"
Smfh…a STOLEN SONG LIKE MOST OF ZEPPELINS HITS…thieving C*NTS
Oh my gosh... that's so clever and so true!
I love her.
I've never heard that....that is the greatest line I think I've ever heard....the Wilson sisters are legends in their own right
Love that
As a 53 year old man, I cried when I first saw this
My husband and I said it was the best thing the Obamas ever did.
@@LadyIarConnacht So, recovering from a massive recession and crashing housing market caused by Bush means nothing? Saving the country from 2 pandemics isn't anything? Kiliing Bin Laden means nothing? Your husband is a moron
I'm 60 me too.
I cry every time I see a reaction to this.
@@LadyIarConnacht That's easy to say
So, as noted, the drummer was the son of the Led Zeppelin drummer, playing his dads drum kit. His dad was also famous for wearing the brown bowler hat, which is why Jason had one on, as did the choir.
Page or Plant invited Jason to join them in the audience weeks before this performance. Jason declined, stating he had a “prior engagement”.
@@ceeceeriderPlant is Jason’s godfather & had invited him, you can see their surprise, & how proud the are of him.
Jason didn't just have a bowler on, that Was Bonzo's actual hat!
@@sicotshit7068 yes! I knew someone would provide me with the details :) thanks!
Love love your reaction ♥️. I'm a big Zepp fan. I've seen this tribute dozens of times and I get chills everytime.
When you do a cover as a tribute that brings the original band to tears, You know you've done a good job.
Robert had tears in his eyes because Jason is playing for his father. He actually told KCH that he didn't want to hear anyone cover Stairway. They promised him he would not be disappointed!
She didn't just sing that song, she respected it. ❤
Well said
❤
The gospel treatment is absolutely genius.
Robert Plant actually asked Jason Bonham to accompany him to this tribute event, but Jason told him he couldn't join him because he had a prior commitment. That's why Robert points at him at the start of the video.
If true that is Fkin awesome.
@@omgbeardrivingits absolutely true
Note, Jason's "Salute" to the band at the end also.
That's so cool😊
@@omgbeardrivingyes true.
The drummer is Jason Bonham. He is the son of John Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s deceased drummer.
Ann Wilson has one of the best voices in rock. She is almost 70 years old and can still belt it with the best of them.
I saw Heart live in 1978 and again 10 years later. Incredible. She absolutely nailed it in both shows.
She's actually 74! She is too badass for words.
She still sends shivers down my spine.
Good Canadian girls!
@@jaemigoodings1054 Ann Dustin Wilson was born on June 19, 1950, in San Diego, California.
Nancy Lamoureux Wilson was born March 16, 1954, in San Francisco, California.
Is that in Canada?
@@shane8915 obviously not wise ass. I thought they were Canadian. They lived ion Canada and home base was Vancouver BC Canada.
Ann was 62 when they did this and wasn't expecting to be asked to perform this song. And they did it with two 30 minute rehearsals with Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) on drums. Jason Bonham's appearance was such a secret that he didn't even rehearse with them.
Wow- I did not know that, thanks for filling in that piece of information !!!
The asian looking fellow in the audience vibing is yoyo ma , worlds greatest cellist
Ms. Bonnie Raitt was there too!!
Imagine the sheer terror that guitarist must have felt playing one of the most iconic guitar solos in history in front of the man who created it, no pressure.
No pressure, in front of the band, the President, Yo Yo Ma etc
This is one of the finest tributes that you will ever listen to! Robert was even tearing up! This version is just beautiful!
Robert was tearing up. Jimmy was smiling and laughing
@@helenespaulding7562 I knew it was one of them 🤣
@@jefffrey4844 lol. Well it does make a bit of difference ….they’re not interchangeable. 😉
@@helenespaulding7562 fair enough!
I really like that they got Heart to do it, who are also classic rockers and not some really young people. It was great to see that Ann and Nancy still got it, and to see RP tear up, it was amazing.
They said no one can sing that better. Ann said “hold my beer”. Heart opened for LedZep for a tour in 70s
FYI… This is a SHORTENED version of Heart’s Led Zeppelin performance, it ISN’T the whole thing. (It was shortened for broadcasting purposes.)
The entire performance is a couple of minutes longer and is SO. MUCH. BETTER. (This shortened version feels “homogenized” by comparison.)
The whole performance IS also on YT; it says “Full Version” in the heading.
Yeah it ruins the best part - the choir reveal. Thanks for tipping me off. I can’t even bring myself to watch. I don’t think I’ve seen a reaction channel get it right yet even though so many bitch about it in the comments
All performers who came onstage after Heart had already played Zeppelin songs in tribute. Heartfelt and fittingly so emotional.
@@benkyle76 🤭Once in awhile someone picks the right one. I’m so OCD (and I don’t want to “waste” my time/be disappointed) that I always just FF to the beginning scene of the vid: The full version starts with an outside shot of the bldg (and I think it says “Full Version” at the top); the shortened vid starts w Lenny Kravitz onstage/introducing the drummer onstage… if I see that, I just turn it off.😜
Abbreviated versions are created by people with no soul.

Talk about an incredible moment, I love the look on the face of Jimmy Paige during that solo he was like "yea you nailed it kid"
Yes he was, Jimmy loves musicians, he never puts any guitarist down like others have. That to me also makes him the greatest guitarist ever.
Shayne Fontaine in not a kid & has been around since the 70’s, he knew the Zep boys
He is also 70 years old. Just sayin’.
I am 60 years old. I was a lead singer in rock bands for 30 years and we performed this song, there was nothing like singing this and having 1000 people singing every word with you. This song was the soundtrack to our life. One of Heart's best songs is Dog and the butterfly. Amazing, beautiful and epic.
My sister's fav Heart song too. ❤
For me, this is the greatest live performance I've ever seen. So much emotion, and everything done to perfection. Dude, Jason Bonham on drums absolutely k1lled that song. The hats were a great touch, and Robert getting teary....man this was good.
Ann is easily one of if not the greatest female vocalist to ever live! Instant full body goosebumps when she starts opening up!!❤
Ann Wilson has one of the greatest voices in rock history.
I've probably seen this 20 times.... watery eyes every time...
Its seeing Jason look up to the heavens as if to say “that’s for you Dad” at the end that gets me every time
Ann was 62 years old in that video. She's 74 now.
She is a legitimate legend.
It’s your California
grandma, again. I was in tears watching when this was broadcast in 2012. President Obama had selected Led Zeppelin for Kennedy Honors recognition. I was Blessed to see Ann Wilson in her Ann Wilson of Heart Thing solo show in 2017 & 2018 with a backup band of only 4 musicians. She only performed very few Heart songs, but mostly covers of famous songs that held special meaning for her. They were small venues, one only 300 fans. She sounded even more incredible with just these stripped down performances. She just turned 74 and still can slay any song with her one of a kind vocals! I’m finally seeing Heart for the 1st time this December in Sacramento.
No pressure to do the iconic guitar solo in front of the creator of that solo. Masterfully staged I get tears listening to Jason tearing up the drums like his father did.
Dude Shane Fontayne has been around since the 70’s, he knew the Zeppelin boys… no nerves, just did his thing!
@@Rock_Snob Yes -- Shane Fontayne (Mick Barakan) is the real deal, especially his work with Lone Justice in the '80s. Here he's playing the Fender Bass VI with them:

I first heard of him when he was with the Johnny Average band in Woodstock, NY, early '80s:
th-cam.com/video/PQQ3h2afvTY/w-d-xo.html
@@montalbans I was lucky enough to see Lone Justice in LA back in the early 80’s, excellent band!
Jason Bonham on drums. Several facts you might be interested in
1). Robert is Jason’s godfather. John Bonham was Roberts closest snd dearest friend. Jason and Robert are close. And of course Jimmy and JPJ have known Jason since he was in diapers
2). The band had invited Jason to be with them for the tribute, in honor of his father, but Jason said he could not because he had a gig in LA. So it was a complete shock to the guys when Jason walked out on the stage. ( He was introduced when he walked out on the stage but you evidently missed that.)
3) Jason has his own Zeppelin tribute band which is excellent. I’ve seen them live snd they ROCK. If they tour near you, Molly, you should go see them. They must come to Birmingham occasionally?
4). Robert has said that he was crying for several reasons. Of course, he still misses his friend John so much and wished he could have been there with them. But he said that he was emotional also because he felt out of time and place: They sang that song as young men who thought of themselves as rebels. And Robert was definitely a hippie in his heart. So in his mind, he was remembering how optimistic we had all been then…all that promise,,, and how it had all been lost. He was feeling the loss of what could have been. Sadness, nostalgia. And wondering how in hell he and this song he wrote the lyrics for when he was 23, , had ended up at a fancy gala in 2012 with The President of the US.
The old man looking back at his youth and wondering “how did I end up here”.
He shared all these thoughts in an interview on a Canadian podcast I watched several years ago. I made an impression on me.
oh my good. and i have been so hard on this version. Ashes on my head, I'm sorry for that.......................We are all human, and sometimes we hurt far too quickly. Sometimes we are impulsive out of an emotion. We don't know so much about other people's backgrounds and are so quick to judge, especially nowadays.
I read an interview Robert Plant gave to Huff Post, where he said that after this performance, he felt that this song no longer belonged to them. It belonged to the stratosphere.
Imagine not being able to appreciate music like this. What a poor life that would be! Good on you for opening up to it.
Another great tribute is seeing Prince play guitar in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Prince's performance is f-ing nuts.

Can you imagine how nerve-wracking this was for the musicians and Anne and Nancy Wilson, to play in front of the masters? And they nailed it! I got goosebumps too!
Jason Bonham on drums, like his dad, and the choir wearing the hats that John Bonham wore
You don't have to apologize to not be here all the time. We all have lives outside of you-tube & internet, so it's the same for you. Glad to see you back & have a nice day.
I told you! Heart also covered Zep’s Battle of Evermore. Jason Bonham is the son of the late John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin
Greatest girl band ever❤❤❤❤
Actually the rest of Heart are dudes. But a great band nonetheless!
Robert & John Bonham were the closest of the band members. They were in band together before Zeppelin. Robert had a son that died from stomach virus in 1977.While the rest of the band stay in Los Angeles during a tour John flew back to England w/ Robert to console the family.Robert tears up because John wasnt there to celebrate with them. Glad you're feeling better
Jason is Robert's Godson.
That was the definition of flawless. Whoever did the production is a genius.
The entire ceremony is definitely worth the watch. I think you will love seeing it from start to finish.
I’m 53 and started subscribing to your channel recently. I love seeing younger folks discovering not only the original Stairway to Heaven, but this AWESOME tribute version by Heart. Great reaction, dude!
Some days all you need to have a good day is a little Ann and Nancy Wilson but it makes it even better that they’re singing Zepplin! Ann Wilson is in her 70s and can still kill it!
Let the emotion flow, that’s what music is for.
Thanks for the update!

Great news! how did you get that?
It's all thanks to Abigail Johnson

Wow I know Olimm Abigail Johnson Her platform maintains a unique perspective and is very transparent with their investors. Regardless of whether or not she outperforms. I will forever stay invested!
Stairway to Heaven is prohibited from being played in every guitar store in America 😂
Well then tell them I’m playing heart
How many other people ignore that & play as much as can anyway before someone says something… or is it just me
Anyone that's seen Waynes World knows that 😂
No Stairway??
Stairway denied
Apparently the Led Zeppelin boys had invited Jason Bonham to go with them in place of his dad and he told them that he had a prior engagement and couldn’t go. They didn’t know that he was playing for them that night until they saw him there. ♥️
When John Bonham died the band, Led Zeppelin, stopped performing. The loss to them was traumatic and that's how they mourned John Bonham.
That John's son Jay was the drummer for that tribute event (Kennedy Center Honors) made it extra sweet.
BTW, let me speak for us olde folk subscribers (I'm 78) when I say that I/we appreciate the respect that you show for these "greats" and their music.
I was exactly 4 and a half months old when Bonzo died, my dad would always speak of the bond between Robert and John when I was growing up
I’m 44 now and Bonzo is still the greatest to ever sit behind a drum kit to me
EPIC Classic tribute to the greatest rock band ever!!
Led Zeppelin 🎵🎷🎸
Just imagine the memories going thru their head as they watch this amazing tribute ❤
If you're going to perform that song in public, you want to be an exceptional artist. If you're going to perform that song in public in front of the guys who wrote it, performed it and made it famous, you'd want to be phenomenal. THEY WERE!
I had requested that you cover this song. Who else could blow this out of the water and make Led Zepplin emotionally moved? Thanks for covering this song great job! 👍
Darlin, I've watched this at least 30 times, cry every frickin time.

Recommend checking these 2 amazing ladies Live in Seattle. Nancy’s beautiful vocals let her shine in ‘These Dreams’ and Ann blows you away with ‘Alone’ ❤
Couldn't agree more. The performance of both songs is awesome. That live version of These Dreams is better than the album version. ❤️
Heart has done other Led Zeppelin covers. "Rock and Roll" and "Kashmir" come to mind.
To be a rock, and not to roll! one of my favorite all time lyrics
Hi Molly the guy on the drums is the son of the original and only drummer for Zeppelin John Bonham whom passed.
IT IS THE BEST TRIBUTE EVER OF THIS SONG.....AMAZING, the hole concert is brilliant
I also like the cover of “ Immigrant Song” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Check out the vid of Ann Wilson doing it!
He’s the original drummers son that died tragically which ended the band. That was the most incredible version of stairway I’ve ever heard! I watch it every once in a while if I need to hear something great. Some of the other tributes that night were crap. Heart is phenomenal. Such a tight band.
Bro you gotta check out hearts song with Layne Staley “Ring them bells”
Wow I never knew that existed cool...as a female in her 60's I wasn't a big Heart fan...but add Layne can't go wrong right ? 💚🖤
Outstanding choice!! My favorite band is being honored so fantastically!! With health, you come first!!! Happy to see you back.
Live performances are very emotional for me. If it’s good, I feel the joy of those people in the audience, and it moves me.
Same. It’s hard to explain to some though. I have a very visceral reaction to good music in general, and feel a physical “pull” to certain artists. Live music that evokes awe in an audience leaves me an emotional wreck, in the best way
I once saw Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard play in London. Ed performed Black with an orchestra and no joke it was almost a hypnotic experience. The whole room fell eerily silent and we were all mesmerised. In my 30+ years of going to gigs that’s the one that stands out the most. Haven’t seen anything like it, before or since. I cried all the way home on the train back to Birmingham it was that much of an intensely beautiful moment
Ann was a PERFECT choice to honor them!! Phenomenal!!
The tribute for Led Zeppelin was in 2012. Ann was 62 when she performed this. Now 74 & still awesome.
I cried like a damn fool when I heard this. 😭
This is THE best tribute to my favorite band Led Zeppelin that I have ever heard. Ann Wilson is THE Rock Goddess. Best female Rock voice still. This was December 2012. Anne was 62, and singing better than almost any young singer of today. Nancy, most known for her guitar playing, is also a great singer. She was 58. Jason Bonham on drums was 46 (John Bonham’s son. John was the drummer for LZ). Imagine playing/singing one of the best known and revered rock songs in history, in front of the guys who actually wrote and performed it in the 1970’s. OMG! Then Shane Fontayne had to play the solo on the electric guitar in front of Jimmy Page, who IMO is the greatest Rock guitarist ever. F*#K! I saw this live on TV and started crying when they started, and was sobbing by the end. The song, the performance, and watching Jimmy, Robert, and John react to it - I’m crying now. Robert has said the tears were because he watched Jason, the son of his best friend and drummer of Led Zeppelin, play this song on his father’s kit. What had been, what could have been had John not died at age 32. Jason had been a baby and little kid during the Zeppelin years. Just simply amazing.
This song was the last one played at every high school and youth club dance when I was a teenager. (CFB Borden, 1974-78.) I heard it so often, I knew the words by heart before I ever read the lyrics. I fondly remember the awkwardness experienced as the song transitioned from a "slow song" to up-tempo and not knowing whether my dance partner wanted to keep clinched up and just waltz through the whole thing, or move apart and step lively. Then, looking around the dance floor and realizing every other couple was experiencing the same thing. If any one song could be thought of as the background music of my youth, this is it. I never imagined that it could get any better, but then I saw this version on TH-cam. Gets me right in the feels every time.
Ann and Nancy are my home town girls! I grew up with my parents having so much pride here in Seattle! I'm 38 now and have had them my entire life. I've seen them live. They're always amazing!

After the show Zeppelin and the Wilson Sisters went out to eat, Robert Plant told Ann Wilson, I hate when people cover Stairway, but you nailed it. The drummer was the son of John Bonham, Zeppelin's late drummer.
Robert and the guys asked Jason Bonham to join them for this concert not knowing he was going to be IN the concert playing his Dads drums mind you. Jason had to 'decline ' saying he had another engagement he had to attend he couldnt miss.
So they were surprised and happy to see him.
This was a brilliant performance.

Great tribute to Led Zep, ... watch the whole show if you get time, some great artists paying tribute 👍
I'm glad the emotion makes it to future generations. This performance is the very definition of "epic."
I'm 4th cousins with Robert Plant! 👍🏻
I grew up with Led Zeppelin in the 1970's. I was captivated by this band. Got to go to their concerts. This was such an incredible tribute. Oh, and as my Dad got older, he kind of resembled Plant now as Plant's gotten older. And his Mother even more so. They are both gone. And, on top of that, my daughter lived in Austin, TX years ago. And she ran into Robert Plant. He lived there for a few years. She had a short but good conversation with him. He is a kind and down-to-earth kind of person.
Darling boy, it does my old heart so happy to see young people appreciate our music. Cheers mate❤
Original drummers son. Notice at the end he points up to heaven, in tribute to his dad
Chills!!!
Props to Shane Fontayne for knocking the guitar solo out of the park!

Robert didn’t know that Jason was going to be there.
saw them almost 35 years ago, and Led Zeppelin's song Rock and Roll was their encore.
I have seen both Robert Plant and Tony Iommi in the John Lewis store in Solihull a few times over the years. Never had the nerve to speak to either since it’s their private time, but they always looked happy and relaxed.
If you’re ever over that way, it’s always worth keeping an eye out

This is actually the edited version, CBS had to fit it into the allotted time slot. There is a video out there of the entire performance, it says “full version” which includes the other verses of the song as well as more reactions from LZ. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 at this performance, and they’re touring right now at ages 74 and 70!

Bad Wolves does a tribute to The Cranberries song Zombie that is absolutely amazing. Back story, Bad wolves asked to cover her song and the lead singer Dolores O'Riordan was going to sing on it with them but she passed away the night before.

Ann Wilson was about 62 in that show, Nancy Wilson about 59. They are both goddesses. Ann turned 74 this week.
The drummer is the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham who gets a nod with Jason wearing his bowler hat. Apparently the 3 surviving members invited Jason to be their guest, but he said he had prior commitments so it was a shock to them when he appeared onstage.

the cut away to Yo-Yo Ma rock’n to Stairway to Heaven says it all. Awesome tribute
Ann and Nancy Wilson killed it
Yes, this was an absolutely stellar arrangement and performance. I've watched many times. Ann Wilson also does a great cover of Immigrant Song. Also the drummer is the son of the late John Bonham, original drummer of Led Zeppelin. 👍👍👍
One of the greatest of all time performance of a great song❤❤❤❤watched this no less than 50x
Dude you're going to actually totally freaked out when you understand that the drummer was John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham. And furthermore that it was a surprise for Robert Plant, and he and Bonzo were really really good friends.
It hurt Robert so much when John Bonham passed away early.
And therefore to have Jason play his dad's drum part on this and do it masterfully, while wearing his exact same little bowler that his dad used to wear. Wow.
And it was a surprise for Robert Plant like I said, so there is a lot that's going on in those emotional exchanges between them, with Robert up in the balcony and Jason down behind the drum kit on the big stage.
But yeah, I got goosebumps for the same reasons you did. It was all so good.
And just to watch Jimmy Page analyzing that guitar solo so attentively, and by the end of it just cracking into a huge wide grin, I believe he was the one that actually led the standing ovation at the end. And then JPJ is just cool as ever man.
Ann Wilson was 63 when she sang this. Amazing.
This is a shortened version of the original. Part of the guitar solo has been cut out.
Anne has a Fabulous voice I have seen Heart in concert they are we're fantastic❤️🇨🇦
Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham, the main Drummer of Led Zeppelin until he passed away in September, 1980 after a drunken binge at his house just prior to the band going on tour to America. Bonham was picked up by assistant Rex King and whilst on the journey, he asked to stop for breakfast where he had 4 quadruple Vodka Screwdriver Cocktails then he went on to rehearsals where he continued drinking heavily all day and then late into the evening and when they finished practice, he took the band members back to his own house in Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire where he fell asleep so someone took him to bed and placed him on his side until the next day when Band Member Jones and Manager Benji LeFevre found him unresponsive that afternoon! He was just 32 years of age at the time of his passing! His son Jason has since stood in for their missing drummer in 1988, 1995 & 2007. Here in this video he stood in for his deceased Dad again alongside Heart in this instance! It shows just how much it meant to him to do it for them too!
