I kinda feel that’s not what the whole point of bonelab is. I think the whole point of bonelab is to be the next garrys mod of VR so people can make games using it as it’s not ment to be a boneworks. Ik this has been said by so many other TH-camrs before but they have a point
They can still update the sdk just not change everything. But I still think a last big sdk update to add the new 2024 unity version would be cool. Because it adds a lots of cool stuff for optimization and all
they literally said they wont ever be adding dlc to bone lab and i think what your saying missing the whole point of bone lab it's not a "game" in the regular sense its much more of a game engine then anything.
For those who don’t feel like watching the video and instead want to comment: He hates all the updates, thinks you’re all stinky goobers, has only played feetlab and blowlab for the past year.
Im not exaggerating, but you're the reason I want to make VR videos but thats obviously going to be unsuccessful. Trying will still work hopefully. You are my inspiration
How is the SDK still not done after years since release in a game that relies on mods to be playable? The progress on Bonelab is ridiculously slow, there is no way they arent working on something else behind the scenes. SLZ should just abandon Bonelab at this point, let the community just make a good SDK that wont break because of the constant updates that add nothing substantial.
Why would they abandon bonelab? I mean yeah modders could just make the sdk for them i guess but even if they did it wouldn't be as good if slz just made it, like i love the modio/thunderstore networker but it just is kinda jank, and I think if slz just made something like modio/thunderstore networker them selfs it would be so much smoother and you wouldn't have to download any other (honestly pretty jank) software and could just boot up the game and you can immediately just start modding the game.
@@valleyboyliving Would you rather have them work on a new game or have them work on a mildly less janky way to download and make mods? I know I would rather have them work on a completly new and game.
@@daffix1337 Yes I would much rather them keep working on bonelab than continue on another project, not just so they can make modding more easy, but for the marrow engine, which I believe has a lot of potential but in it's current state is good (probably the best interaction system in vr) but even in its state right now it is no where near perfect and as brandon said there making marrow to elevate the stress of having to make vr games frome scratch and it would honestly be pretty stupid to just abandon it.
For those who dont feel like watching the video and instead want to comment: He thinks updates are good and should keep coming but they can get pretty bad when they’re are to many coming in such a short time
I think there is the same phenomena in play as with news... People only read the title. I think fixing a game is the minimal thing for a developer to do. That should be the minimum they do. Adding more content is just the cherry on top, but some got too used to this as everybody does it
What would be awesome is if after they finish the main patches, (around patch 9) they add updates like the patch 6 circuits to help modders more without breaking all the other mods. And, they could add props from the new game into bonelab to tease what's coming
They could add stuff from other games they make like you said would be cool. Because if the other games are not mod-compatible it would make bonelab last longer instead of it just dying.
What makes you think modders will get future game assets when modders only have access to Bonelab props and if you want any static objects like pipes then you need to rip them from the game.
i feel like bonelab updates should be like how anton *the creator of h3vr* updates his game just add content and tells the community if what he is adding is gonna break stuff like when he added institution to take and hold it broke character mods specifically for that map
IMO, slz should make the next update add what modders/players want and make it a main version, then put the next patches on the experimental versions for people to mess with the new stuff while leaving the main version as the most used one where mods don't break every 6 weeks. That way we get both a stable version for big projects and new updates in isolated versions for testing/updating for the next main version, kinda like what minecraft does.
I understand the struggle, I also wish that the support would end earlier since I have plans to make something huge and time consuming, but knowing that an updates are coming pushes back my will to start making it, which would wipe progress of the project if i started it now, but then again, getting new (and hopefully big) sdk implementations would be ideal so modders could be 1 step closer to a "stable SDK" for a lack of a better term
I think it depends on where you stand. As someone who doesn’t use mods at all, stopping updates seems absolutely idiotic. I can see where mod users are coming from, but I don’t agree.
what the fuck is the point of playing bl without mods? i cant even conjure up a good explanation for this. the whole game is built around modding, so why not mod it? kts LITERALLY built into the game.
id like bonelab to stop updating having to remake mods from the ground up is not very fun things added to the sdk is nice but just not worth it imo and for the pain of stopping us from getting some really good mods also hard to push myself to makeing bigger mods if they will just break no point to it
I dont get how you make an unfinished game with the justification for releasing it unfinished being “the point is for modders to fill the gaps” and then not even provide the tools to do so and constantly break the homemade tools to add 1 tool every month or so. How has it been like 2 years and we still cant have custom arena maps without significant effort using the community sdk? How have still not gotten basic things like grips? If they dont want to properly support mods, what reason does this game have to exist because on its own, it is so f*kin bare bones that its not even funny
as john tempest creator of tempest campaign SDK tools are still very much needed. Marrow will be used in future games so either they update bonelab/marrow and give us the tools, or they update marrow and dont. Either way they will be "updating" bonelab, so this entire thing seems kinda redundant to me. They aren't updating bonelab to update bonelab, they are updating bonelab to update marrow.
I think they should make minor patches that don't change the SDK over time while working on a major update that launches a while later meant to put the SDK into a "finished state" so they don't have to update it anymore and modders can be free to make advanced mods without worrying about their mod breaking update after update.
Even though I was one of the people who got what you were trying to convey in the first vid, this did help to add to the easily confusable parts (I will also look at that offer so thanks in advance)
if i was in charge of SLZ i would be focusing on parity with the extended SDK as the major focus of patch 7 tbh. like i know it's not that easy but it would save so much heartache
This video and the previous one spit facts, while updates aren't bad I do wish they just had 2 teams divided, one working on bonelab and another working on their newer project. I love watching these videos by the way, all of them are pretty entertaining. On the modding side, I am a modder that made the Prawn Suit mod which recently stands at 140k downloads, I love modding and think it is genuinely fun. On the other side though I get burnt out a lot and when my mods were breaking every 6 weeks from new updates, It tired me out... In fact so much that I haven't worked on anything since patch 5. I really love this community and wish I could work on more but even opening unity is a challenge for me now and I don't have the skill required to add some really amazing features to my mods. I have also abandoned several of them just because updating 15 mods feels like a lot when every new update comes out. Amazing video though and I hope you are having a great time!

Bonelab is a really amazing game and i am sorry that people did not understand what you were saying that you had to make a follow up video. Otherwise you make great content and keep it up!
This is an age old problem with modable games like Skyrim/fallout and Minecraft "extend sdk mods", any updates to the base game will start issues with mods, for SLZ its code mods that start breaking similar to how Java Minecraft mods work as its the community that builds the extended and code mods, even skyrim and fallout if any updates happens the entire modding scene is in hell for everything is broken now because Bethesda. the only way to have mods and updates together is to open source the codebase like og Doom but thats not really an option, I think we should should just keep updating, until the sdk is complete done than stop. My big concern is B-side, will that have an sdk? Will that update bonelabs core? Will it replace bonelab or not have modding support at all? Can things be backported? I think LBP1->2 with b-side might not be possible as unity itself would be the biggest problem.
